Happy New Year
For some of you it might be 2025 already, for the rest it will be upon us soon!
All of you have been deceived. I wasn't taking some time off over the holidays after all! Instead I've been working in secret on the next evolution of Princess of Gehenna.
I know, I know, it does not look like much yet and it will take me a couple of months to get the transition done, but this is what my big goal for 2025 looks like. Now you can ignore the pink placeholder characters of course. Character modelling is probably the biggest challenge I've yet to tackle!
Just to clarify: I'm NOT remaking the game. I'm keeping the story portions of the game as they are right now using prerendered images. What I'm planning on doing is replacing the open world portions of the game with ... well little levels like the one shown in the video you can walk around in and interact with people. It's going to be a hybrid Visual Novel game basically.
While working on v0.4 I've been trying to recreate the base visual novel features of Ren'Py I've grown used to. This little "demo" if you want to call it that, runs in the Godot Engine, yet another fantastic open source game engine.
I'm working on creating my own little script system based off of the Rakugo Project - Shoutout:
https://rakugoteam.github.io/The goal is to make the Ren'Py script files I'm using now mostly compatible without too much manual intervention. There is still work to be down in that regard, but I think I have tackled the biggest problems already, so I am confident. For instance image transitions are missing as of right now: dissolves, fades to black, that kind of stuff.
Since the release of v0.4 I've been trying to learn Blender (Open Source Hell yeah!) for 3D modelling. All the assets you see in the video have been created by yours truly in Blender, then exported to the Godot Engine. The goal is to recreate all the environments in my game and let you explore them. I aim to make them look mostly the same as in the rendered images, but I'm not aiming for perfection here. And most importantly I want you to actually be able to play the game even on low powered hardware and Android phones. The assets I'm using in Daz Studio would NEVER EVER work in a real-time application like a video game.
I will be working on recreating the environments of PoG on the side while continuing to work on the game in Ren'Py as it is right now. I can't give you a time frame yet on when I'm gonna have a first little playable demo ready or even when I will finally complete the transition over to the Godot engine. All I can say is that this will take MONTHS and my goal is to make it happen before 2025 is out. You can probably expect to get at least v0.5 made in Ren'Py as usual first though. Like I said this whole thing will only be a side project for now until it's a little more mature that what you can see here.
If you got any questions drop 'em in the comments below. I will make sure to answer all of them.
Anyway, I hope you have a great 2025 and I'll see you all here again a year from now.
Take care of yourselves!
