Heyo. I want to say thank you for your support; Revolver and I are super grateful for your support and comments in the latest update.
I'm happy to see you enjoyed our work. We launched the past version of the game as a base for the story. Most of the reason it took us ages was because we were not sure how complex the story and gameplay should be; after ages of debate and analysis about story and gameplay, we decided to just set the bases for the story in this update.
Now about the lack of development updates, it was my choice to post nothing until we had something cool to show; in the end, this was the best since it was kind of complicated to get a real date, and the sound design forced us to delay the update.
Now our next goal is to get a base for the gameplay. As you tested in the previous version, we added a minigame that works as test for minigames, but we want to have more of them, also add cool stuff like a proper working world and ui :)
So now that we finally have a vision for gameplay, we noticed it was kind of complex, and the problem with it is that sometimes, in game development, not all ideas fit the project; some ideas can sound good in your head, but once you test them, you notice they are trash or generate more problems than solutions.
You can say, "Why don't you just make a basic version of the ideas and then expand them?" The problem is that we want to avoid changing or remaking stuff that is already in the game just to adapt it to the new ideas.
You could also say, "Just add the whole idea, and then after testing, you can remove the idea in case it doesn't work." The problem here is that again we want to avoid wasting time and effort doing stuff that has a possibility to be removed.
The solution we found for this was to define the stuff that cannot be removed from our vision, define its most basic qualities considering the complete idea, and add them to the game as a base that can be expanded and tested to achieve its final vision. This way we avoid remaking basic stuff like code or design elements and test small additions that are part of an already planned idea.
So in a way that you can easily imagine, it's like making a drawing; you don't just start doing element by element. Maybe you draw a girl posing naturally, but then you say, "Let's draw her surfing." In this case, you'd have to redraw the body and pose and angle so it fits your new vision of "surfing girl" (it's a waste of time). Or in the second example, you can't start adding details like water reflections and shading when you don't even have a sketch of the general idea (also a waste of time). Our choice was to make a sketch that has all our ideas in a basic idea, and then as we add colors, shades, and details, we can define what has to stay and how detailed.

This last update was more about ironing out the worldbuilding and the personalities of the main characters. We want to integrate tutorials into the game's intro sequence, so once we're done designing the gameplay foundations, we are very likely going to be overhauling large stretches of the intro. When that happens, I also want to add more dialogue options while I'm at it so that there's more interaction during the long stretches between gameplay. This may not happen in the next major update, but it will definitely happen in the one after that at the latest.
.....Yeah!
In summary: The next goal is to post an update focused on gameplay, adding and improving UI, sounds, minigames, and stuff.
As a final comment, I want to mention the support and likes we've received on different forums and pages. I noticed people really liked our ideas and visions; I also noticed you loved Tr- Misty, our sexy blue girl. Maybe we can add something cool for her in the next update :3.
Status Update! 12/14/2023 - New Stuff Coming Soon!
SUGAR- Hello guys I'm SurgarlessPaints and you are experiencing a deja vu! I'm sorry for the previous post, Rev miss posted a simple draft, I hope you understand that's not the quality of post we aim for. :p
Today in this little update well share some details of our Dev process and progress for the next game update, basically the first version of the game! YAY!
REVOLVER- Hey guys, it's been a while! Sorry for the radio silence, Sugar and I have both been super focused on getting the next update ready for you guys. Personally, I haven't had much free time to work on the game these past couple of months since I've been working 12-hour shifts at my day job since the beginning of October, but rest assured that we are busting our asses trying to make the next update as awesome as possible!
We are still aiming for the two-month update cycle that we mentioned earlier, and so that means we're still trying to have the update ready for you guys before the end of the month. However! I want to make it clear that we aren't going to release the update if we feel that it's not ready. We will do our best to keep you guys in the loop if things change so that you aren't totally blindsided by disappointment, but right now we are prioritizing quality and doing our best to avoid burnout!
With that out of the way, let's talk more about what Sugar and I have been been cooking up for you guys! In this upcoming update, we are focusing on the game's introduction. It's not going to be a big update in terms of playtime, but it absolutely packed to the gills with new locations, characters, and game mechanics. We'd really love to show you what we've been working on, but we're still so early in development that everything we could tell you about feels like too big of a spoiler.
SUGAR- Right now we are working on the introduction yes, and i can say that we plan to add (based on the tech demo) 2 new locations with different sections to go and some extra rooms in the main building! also i can say that we already have 8 new characters for this new introduction, oh yeah! I'm really exited to show them, we really worked hard on their designs! :3 Also we are adding new menu design and some cool UI features!
A little Teaser :3 About the release date: We are working hard to deliver it this month but as you know this month is known to be the busiest time of the year, we appreciate your support and patience! I can't wait to show you the new characters, environments and ideas we have for the game, this is just the base which means we need to do it the best we can but I'm really excited to show it to you!
Finally you'll see a new DEV diary soon where well talk about HENNA! the Goth girl you saw in the previous tech Demo!
Thank you for your patience again and for reading! till next post! <3
Heyo! I'm sugarlesspaints.. (duh) and I'm here in this new Dev Diary to show you Reik's design process! Revolver is also here to comment the story side for this char, but no worries no spoilers, promise :3.
Reik' is the main character in Beyond Friendship, he is just a big zebra boy who is always willing to help people and try the different experiences the world has to show.
For this game we wanted to have a lot of 'size difference' play in game, and people who know my art can agree the best character for this purpose is a zebra. also zebras are bigger than ponies in real life so they fit the role. ;)
-Design-
Zebras are simple, no crazy colors just black and white and this is not bad but for this game we needed to add unique characteristics, first removed the classic Mohawk haircut and added something unique but not too crazy.
For the body he needed to look different than most pony males (and eye catching for pony females) so i designed a cartoon-ish concept first and then "fanart" my own sketch to fit my style.
He looks nice but needs to look 'young and cool' so i fixed the haircut and added a modern style outfit. The outfit was kinda tricky because he needed to look simple but i didn't want the generic character with white t-shirt and red shorts, in the end i added this crazy hoodie and gray shorts, oh yeah! But colors are also important, I chose the cyan color because it is one of the colors that represent my art (yes, even before they became popular in 2017) but also because cyan makes him feel 'fresh and friendly', the dark one is more like 'bad boy' somehow in my mind.
Finally I just needed to fix some little details so he looks younger and added some 'fantasy like' details to the clothes.
I need to add that zebras have this striped pattern because they need to 'camouflage' so predators can't identify a single zebra in a herd, this part made me think that maybe at some point he could not standout in a background so i reduced the tone of the stripes.
This is Reik's final render! :)
REVOLVER'S SECTION!!!
Hey guy, it’s Revolver speaking now! I wanted to talk a little bit about the work I’ve been doing on the game, but since I can’t really delve into the programming side without spoiling a bunch of stuff, instead I’ll talk about what it’s like to write Reik’ as a character!
So, Reik’ is the protagonist in our furry fornication RPG. In my experience, the hardest part of writing a protagonist for a role playing game is deciding how much freedom you want to give to the player. Obviously we’d love to be able to give the player all the freedom to do whatever they wanted, but we’re no Larian Studios. But maybe someday!
But consider that even in BG3, you aren’t completely free to do as you please. Every character you play as starts the game with a goal, and a pretty urgent one at that. It’s the choices you make to reach that goal that help you define the role that you are playing. So the more choices that we as the developers can offer you, the more chances there are for you to figure out what kind of “hero” you want to be!
And that’s the mindset that I’m using to create Reik’! At the start of the game, you’ll know Reik’s reasons for coming to Bridlebrook and what his long-term goals are. But you will be the one to decide what kind of person he is, and of course you’ll get to change his name. We want you to step into his great big shoes and really get immersed in the story that Sugar and I are working to tell.
All of Reik’s value judgments and moral decisions will be made by you as you play. His goals are set in stone, but his methods are yours to control. This will include being able to react differently to sexual situations and control the type of H-content that you see! Does the flirty MILF teacher excite you, or does she creep you out? Will you peek through the hole in the wall to spy on your sexy roommate, or will you do the honorable thing and spackle over it? You get to decide!
AW YEAH!
Thank you for reading, We hope you play and enjoy the preview demo we have prepared for you, you'll be able to play as Reik' and meet some of the characters we have planned for this game, We are sure pony and furry fans will be super happy to play this little part of the world we have created. Thank you again for your patience!
