0.5.6 - 0.5.7 Progress
Hello everyone, and Happy New Year!
A small update is planned around January 1-2.
Sorry for skipping the content poll again.. this update was originally meant to be just a minor fix with some tweaks to rat behavior and bug fixes. However, it ended up growing a bit more than expected.
Alongside fixes, the update now includes:
- Liquid simulation
- A small city expansion
- Equipment stats
The upcoming 0.5.7 update will be fully focused on animations.
A plugin that has been on the wishlist for a long time has finally been added, and work has started on a node‑based scene editor built around it. Unfortunately, unity's default Animator Controller is not really designed for playing long, complex scenes, and at this point it's already been pushed close to its limits. The hope is that the Animancer plugin will significantly expand what's possible.
The most exciting part is the ability to:
- create animation layers at runtime
- assign animation masks at runtime
This is something the default Unity Animator cannot do, since layers and masks must be created beforehand.
In addition, there will be an attempt to integrate runtime animation retargeting, allowing characters in scenes to be interchangeable regardless of height or body proportions. This is a fairly complex goal, and for now it remains more of a conceptual direction than a confirmed feature.. no promises on when or if it will be fully realized. That said, if it works out, adding new characters while keeping compatibility with existing animations will become much easier.
Overall, 0.5.7 focus will be on:
- adding new variations to existing animations
- expanding scenes flexibility
A new poll will be posted once there's a clearer idea of which animations to focus on next.
In the meantime, animation suggestions are always welcome in the Discord #rumi-suggestions channel.
Thank you all for the support and Happy New Year!
