YEL, is an entrepreneur’s pension and social security base, that is described as the entrepreneur’s employment pension insurance, i.e. YEL insurance, and it is law enforced here in Finland!
It's a pretty big milestone, as it means that if something would happen to me, like me being sick for a long period of time, or if I got injured and was unable to work, I'd get money from Finland's social insurance institution. For now it's just around 124 euro a month / just tad under $140 a month. According to their onsite calculator, I'd get around $600 in pension when I finally retire at the age of 67, if I keep up with that sum xD
So the goal is definitely to pay into the fund a bit more at some point!
Despite it making life a tiiny bit harder, I'm also feeling really proud, because I am working towards my future at full speed!
