Any of my fanfiction posts will be public, as I don't want to get in trouble for making profit off of them. It's more of an exercise for me to write this kind of thing, as I need to just leak an idea out of my brain so I can think about more. Hope everyone enjoys!

That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Fanfic
That Time A Wolfman Constructed A Town (working title) Chapter 1

Who knew standing in line at a bank could be so dangerous?

That was my first thought as the masked man in front of me shot me right in the stomach. I could hear screams around me as this happened, but it was mostly muffed due to the vast amount of pain I was in. Crumpling to the ground, I could only whimper as the pain slowly grew more intense. Great… now I sound like a dog, I thought, my breath speeding up as the pain grew.

Confirmed. Constructing a canine body… Successful.

I barely had enough strength to look around the room as I bled out, my frazzling brain noting the great architecture of the building. Truly fitting for a bank. Almost… magical with the imagery they had on the walls.

Confirmed. Magical Architecture… successfully acquired.

That voice… was that the robbers that had come in? My eyes landed on a hazy figure standing near the door, my wound flaring in pain as my anger rose. I couldn’t control what other people did, but could he have not shot me? I wasn’t even doing anything. I had simply had the bad luck of being on my phone when the masked men had come in.

Confirmed. Thought Communication…successfully acquired.

My sight slowly started fading into black at this point, the darkness slowly growing around me. I really didn’t like the dark at the best of times and now…

Confirmed. Darkvision...successfully acquired.

There was that voice again. Telling me things that I had gained. What was it talking about? And where were these things being stored anyway? At this I knew I was almost gone, my mind focusing on completely random facts and summoning this random voice.

Confirmed. Stomach...successfully acquired. Combined with the previously acquired Magical Architecture, the skill has progressed into unique skill “Magical Construction”.

At this I slowly faded into unconsciousness, knowing that I probably wouldn’t be waking up again.

~---~

When I opened my eyes I couldn’t have been more surprised. I for sure thought I was dead considering the amount of blood I had lost, as well as the lack of doctors in the vicinity. I felt surprisingly good as well, no pain whatsoever in my body besides the rough discomfort of whatever I was laying on.

I opened my eyes, pushing up off the ground so I could see where I was. My first shock was the sky above me filled with an uncountable amount of stars. I had never seen the sky like this, city life having made seeing any stars pretty impossible. As I looked around, I seemed to be in a vast barren landscape. The ground looked like it had been blown up several dozens of times with craters scattered everywhere. Where exactly was I? Certainly not anywhere near my home. As I stood up to see more my legs wobbled a bit, like when I had been sitting in my car for too long and they had fallen partially asleep. Looking down was another shock, several in fact as I seemed to be naked (yup those are my bobs swinging around) and I was still covered in some kind of soft material. Moving my hand showed to be another shock as it too was covered in the same black material, the palm of my hand looking a bit odd as well.

I had quite a bit of a freak out at this revelation, taking the time to look shocked at every other part of my body. The material I soon found out to be fur covering me, backed up by the rather bushy tail coming out of my naked rear. I could still stand up on two legs, but it still felt quite odd as my legs seemed to have an extra ‘knee’ which was always bent. It took me several tries to get to walking, my feet… err lower paws were taking a bit of getting used to. Once I had that down where I could walk without tripping over something, I took another look around to see more clearly where I was. Somewhat in the distance I could see trees lining what appeared to be a big battleground, the craters making a bit more sense with that interpretation especially with the logs of wood I now noticed scattered everywhere.

Getting to what I needed to do next… I had no clue. I mean yeah I needed clothing, a place to sleep for the night, and definitely some food, but how to get all of that was the tricky part. Just take it one step at a time, I thought to myself, smelling the air as I looked around. I was trying to see if I could detect any nearby sources of water, as water was something I desperately needed to survive. I almost instantly caught the smell of mud in the wind, as well as the sound of rushing water somewhere nearby. Seemed odd that I could hear and smell those kinds of things so clearly, but I just chalked it up to the canine way my body had looked.

Walking at first was a bit of a challenge, needing me to think about it more than I had to before. A couple of minutes of this, though, and I could feel something click in my mind as I accelerated to a trot. Seemed instinct was taking over or something. Running did seem a lot easier, and definitely didn’t feel as tiring as before I had gotten to this odd landscape. This kind of run would leave me winded in my normal body, but this body took it all in stride without a sweat or even exhaustion. I quickly got to the tree line and just a few feet in was a small stream, which made me ridiculously happy. No dying of thirst for me.

The next step was to build some kind of shelter next to it, something niggling at the back of my head that it would make surviving easier if I didn’t have to go too far to drink or sleep. As I looked around at the trees surrounding me, I was struck with a sudden thought. It’s… night isn’t it? How can I see so well? It looked like a regular cloudy day to my eyes, when I knew night with only the stars should be a lot darker. Didn’t the voice say something about that…? Darkvision wasn’t it? And didn’t it mention something about construction as well? As I pondered this mystery, I leaned against a nearby fallen tree, the roots having been upended when it had fallen over. Suddenly as I was going over everything that had happened when I had ‘died’, and thought about the ‘Stomach’, the tree suddenly disappeared, leaving me to fall sideways into the dirt. I was really confused about what just happened to the tree when I could suddenly feel it. It was almost as if I had pulled it into some sort of space in my gut. Strange… I could feel everything about the tree, including the fact that the wood was a sturdy material that could make decent walls. I wonder…

Standing back up, I envisioned turning the wood of the tree into planks I could use as a floor. I could feel that making the floor too thin would compromise its weight capacity, so I made sure the planks were decent thickness. I also noticed the ground’s uneven surface, and decided to add struts to the bottom so the floor could be a smooth surface about a foot off the ground. I could tell I was running short on the wood I had, and I had only made a square floor a couple of feet across, so I looked around to see where I could place it. Just to make sure I wasn’t going crazy and just picturing random things in my head. I then selected the area where I wanted my building to go, even feeling that some of the struts had to be elongated or shortened so the surface wouldn’t tilt. I then… pushed the image out of the Stomach, stumbling back when the exact structure appeared before my eyes. It had worked!

It had taken quite a while, at least a half hour as the wood hadn’t wanted to turn into the materials I needed. I also had needed to fuse all of the planks and struts together so it wouldn’t instantly fall apart. But it had been way less strenuous than if I had tried to build it by hand. Looking back at the craters and fallen trees in the clearing I had woken up in, I smiled at all of the materials I had access to to make a rather decent home for myself.
