Let Chaos Reign Chapter 40: The Past Never Stays Forgotten

While our forces that we took with us to Malastare had taken a hit, they were acceptable losses since the Republic's droids and clones, along with several Jedi, had been hit back even harder.

For every droid they finally managed to permanently put down, it cost them anywhere from ten to twenty of their own droids. Our tricks by using them as a means to ambush anyone who walked past them thinking they were scrapped led to several situations where the Republic was more concerned making sure they didn’t take any more losses and wasted time destroying them all.

Even when they were properly destroyed, they weren’t taking any chances. That was something we would and did use to our favor when other fronts needed support and they couldn’t get it fast enough. It all led to a domino effect that ended up costing them far too many fuel refineries and storage depots that would make things difficult for Palpatine and his side of the war.

With him bringing more ships and forces to his side while on the surface, it gave him a tactical advantage, but it also came with a lot more issues that would give plenty of people sleepless nights and no end of headaches. Like organizing all of it being one of the biggest.

Then you had things like logistics. But the best part was what not only our group had done, but other Hutt and Separatist forces had managed with the other members of the Quiet Hand. It wasn’t just Malastare that was hit. Malastare was definitely one of the bigger priority targets.

But the other planets or moons needed for the Republic war machine to continue marching on and not grind to a halt were hit as well. The plan on paper was simple -- hit them any way we can with sucker punches and cuts of varying kinds and harass their methods of supply.

While we could hold our own in a face to face fight, only an idiot would try that with someone like Sidious and the resources he has at his disposal. It was to ensure they never got their feet under them, keep them off balance long enough for us to take several important pieces from the board, and then go in for the coup de grâce.

It wouldn’t be that simple, by any means. But it would get me closer to the goal of ridding the galaxy of prune face. Even if temporary and the old bastard managed to come back from death, the means to send him back, if not prevent him from coming back in the first place, would be in place by then… hopefully.

Right now, with so many worlds hit and their fuel supplies meant for their ships and transporting all manner of goods besides just military supplies but a whole bunch of other goodies, combined with them still being a disorganized mess with the surplus forces they acquired, it has led to a bad situation. One that would create the opening we needed to get to Kamino.

Then of course came the rewards.

A door opened in my mind, sights and whispers of what was and could be came unbidden before the door was slammed back shut. Licking my lips behind the mask, I had to stop myself from cackling. Combined with Observation Haki… I may as well be damn near untouchable.

Putting my excitement off to the side while all of us were stationed at a projector on a massive flagship in person for most. A ship half finished but at least functionable. Dooku had it built in secret since it was another Malevolence.

The first one lost under Grievous’ command, but unlike the original 3D Clone Wars series, he wasn’t completely at fault for what happened. Unlike what the show had done, the cyborg general had a massive fleet come in that was composed of ships pulled from nearby systems as the Republic deemed the ship too dangerous to remain functioning.

A massive battle ensued, and Anakin with the Force aided him because no way in hell did he manage that on his own, regardless of his skill at being one of the best pilots in the galaxy. Just like with the first Deathstar's destruction, the stars aligned for it with every factor and variable all adding up in Luke’s favor so he not only could land the shot but also have the time needed to do so, and the Malevolence getting destroyed was no different even with a fleet of its own backing it up.

It was one of, if not the only, black mark on the cyborg generals' record. Dooku funneled some resources for the ship we resided on, but as the war progressed, it dwindled down, with the ship taking far longer to construct as a result.

“These planets here are the ones that will be attacked. Operation Spear Head will wedge our opening even further, allowing us the shot we need to get to the clone homeworld. Once he hits the planet and takes out the facilities and gathers the genetic samples if possible, alongside the majority of the data the Kaminoans have on cloning, the other stages I have planned for this war will commence.”

My psyker specialization knocked gently at the door, but I held it back for now. That will take immediate priority in training it up. With that, this war will come to an end much sooner than even I had expected. It will still take time since wars were never simple things, and especially one involving someone as petty and arrogant as Sidious.

Dooku stared at the map of the galaxy with various dotted lines flashing towards the core worlds, with each link in the grand chain ending on one planet -- Coruscant.

“Sidious is no fool. Knowing him, he likely has other worlds with cloning facilities built on them.” He said slowly, deep in thought, going over how likely this plan was going to work.

What I could tell of the man was that he wasn’t against the plan, and what doubts he had were minimal. Most of them were him correcting some minor flaws here and there to ensure it succeeded. He didn’t exactly have much of a choice since his other option besides working with me was to go and hide somewhere in the galaxy and hope Sidious doesn’t find him.

“Something I already had anticipated. Whatever facilities he does have are likely not going to be enough to match the production output the Kaminoans could give him. It will help, but it won’t be enough to hold the weight from the loss of Kamino.”

Dooku nodded, having already come to that conclusion himself. “While annoying, we will be capable of finding those facilities with our contacts through the criminal underworld. These worlds marked as such,” My hand waved at the various systems that blinked in a specific pattern, “Are ones that have had plenty of resources shipped to them. So they can either be those facilities or top secret projects. Regardless, they are important and will be dealt with once Spear Head is complete.”

Everyone was gathered here either in person or through a holocall. Their holograms were stable, with the forms of Cham Syndulla and the various Mandalorian clan leaders who couldn’t make it in person, and anyone else like HK-47 sent out on hunting jobs to deal with the few major criminal organizations that decided to test to see how the new Hutt organization was doing compared to the old regime.

Which, from what HK had shown them, they are now well aware it is stronger than it has ever been when the ones they sent snooping around, along with the few who hired them, were given the murder hobo droid extraordinaires special treatment. After that, they kept far from us.

“With the loss of so much fuel for their ships, they will be much more cautious than they otherwise would have been.” Grievous said, not against the plan by any means.

The general was just in a roundabout way questioning me to see if I had properly thought this through. It was something I wasn’t against because he wasn’t doing it out of rebellion or anything close to that. He was doing it to ensure, in case there was a flaw or something unforeseen, it would be rectified.

A loss of so much fuel that helped them get to systems and push into Hutt space from mid to outer rim was something that would, under normal circumstances, make them become miserly when it came to pushing too far in. It also helped ease the pressure off of holdout Separatist planets.

“Which is why we force their hand. With the gathered fleet and new droid models combined with the modifications that have been given to all of that has been gathered, we force them to use up even more of their precious fuel reserves and, most importantly, above all else, use more ships from other systems to do everything they can to stop that spear from going right for Coruscant.”

My finger pointed for emphasis at the Republic's capital planet. The ecumenopolis world that had arguably worse horrors on it than the Nar Shaddaa or any planet the Hutts have ruled over for thousands of years. That spoke volumes of not only how dark and horrible it was beneath the surface but also the failure of the current Jedi Order that they don’t even attempt to deal with it.

Something that would be fixed as soon as Sidious was dealt with and the Republic built back up into a proper ruling body that helps everyone. But baby steps and all that.

"Which, of course, depends on if what Hondo discovered is indeed a back door to the water planet.” I said calmly, my spiral orange mask turning towards the boisterous pirate.

“Ha ha ha, of course it is my friend. I have far too much to lose if it wasn’t what had been promised.” Hondo said with a chuckle, playing it off, but his calculating gaze couldn’t be hidden from someone who knew what to look for.

Hondo wasn’t lying, however. He did have much to lose considering the fortune he risked if it didn’t work, and that wasn’t getting started on what would happen if he decided to sell us out to the Republic or anyone else for that matter. I would personally handle him myself if that happened.

Plus, Hondo genuinely seems to enjoy the idea of an explorers guild and the money and profit that can come from such an organization. A place where smugglers and pirates who desire freedom and wealth can go when they have nowhere else and get support.

It was something done only on small levels, and even then, when it was, it was for more nefarious purposes, like moving slaves around. Smugglers of all stripes and colors had come to the organization once word got around, and it was proven to several smugglers that what was agreed upon payment-wise would be upheld.

Already several newly discovered hyperspace lanes were being taxed, and the bulk of those taxes were given to the smugglers who discovered them.

And if it was a hyperspace lane that wouldn’t be as popular as the more traveled ones, the pirates or smugglers could sell the rights to the lane to the Hutts or the Smugglers Guild itself. Just about anyone if they are interested in the hyperspace lane after the system had been properly explored and examined to give a proper and somewhat more accurate description of its worth. Even a bad hyperspace lane would net them quite the profit while not emptying the bank for my Hutt figure heads.

“There you have it, everyone.” An exaggerated wave of the hand in Hondo’s direction, which the famed pirate gave an elaborate bow in return.

Dooku looked ready to give the pirate a gentleman’s version of strangling him to death. Others looked weirded out by our antics, while others seemed to enjoy it. The last one was mostly Cham, whose only reason he was even a part of this was to keep him and, by extension, his people in the know of what was happening in the galaxy and if it would affect them.

A form of transparency for the rebel who was making great strides in his Nen training alongside his people. According to him, Ryloth had come a long ways from what it was before I had paid the planet a visit. Business was picking up, and by the time Orn Free Taa had become aware of Cham’s growing power and resources, it was far too late for the senator to do anything about it.

The Republic, despite the massive increase to the size of its military and fleets, wasn’t in a position currently to waste several ships and Jedi for the war effort on a less important planet like Ryloth on someone like Cham with only vague rumors on his connection to me.

If they did, it would soon be pulled away with what was about to happen. I turned towards Vizsla, the man in newly forged Beskar armor that had been supplied to him and the various Mandalorians. That, combined with their Nen training since Pitou and I had finally gotten around to it when they proved willing to listen to orders.

Vizsla still didn’t like it, his disdain for following me like a festering wound that would never heal for the man. Outwardly he hid it, but on the inside Haki saw it all. The man would eventually challenge me. He had no choice because if he just tried to do a covert sneak attack through… dishonorable means, the clans wouldn’t follow him.

Not when I have supplied them with so much and taught them many things, but above all else, who I am to them. A legend from the past that has come to life before their eyes.

“Have your people ready to move. You’ll be sent to planets being ravaged by the Republic coming to save the people. It will be recorded for the bigger purpose of rallying the rest of Mandalore.”

Vizsla and Bo-Katan by his side perked up at that. His smile for once was genuine, and he looked ecstatic at finally getting the opportunity to change the course for his people.

“It will be done.”

“As for you, Bo-Katan, you and the rest of the Mandalorians will be part of the initial groups sent with Nemesis for Spear Head. Understood?” I gave out orders as if I had plenty of experience giving commands. The female Mandalorian, who after gaining access to Nen was far more battle hungry, wanting to prove herself.

Despite only having my current experience doing all of this after this became my new life. That commander trait was already paying dividends, giving me a better understanding of those that I commanded and how to best utilize them, managing all of this became much easier. It’s why I knew Palpatine wasn’t having a good time with all the added military surplus he just got.

Even with my new trait, that told me how much of a pain in the ass that was going to be for him just from the surface level I was able to figure out.

The hologram of Bo Katan nodded, helmet held in the crook of her arm as a menacing figure appeared beside her. The modified Tyrant, Nemesis, held his two favorite weapons ready to be the tip of the spear he was meant to be.

I turned towards Pitou for the final confirmation. She bobbed her head up and down, a satisfied expression and a proud smile on her face.

“He is ready. His Hatsu has been created, and I have trained him as best I could with the time available.” Her tail playfully batted at the air. Pitou’s excitement was palpable.

“Very well.” My arms were clasped behind my back under the dark cloak I wore. "Nemesis, do what you do best and tear a bloody swath across the chain of worlds. Remember. None of you are conquering. You're destroying whatever you see that gets in your way that fights back.”

Nemesis’s snarl almost sounded happy before the images one by one faded, leaving only those on the command deck of the bridge.

I began to walk away before Vizsla's voice had me pause.

"You're sure that creature is going to survive until it gets to Coruscant. That is a lot of planets to go through until it reaches the target.”

I merely gave him a melancholic chuckle. “Nemesis is not likely to survive. This is a war. Despite the numerous victories, they are meaningless if our enemy retains the means to continue churning out enough forces to drown us. Much like Dejarik, in order to win, some pieces must be sacrificed.”

Vizsla gave me a long, hard stare at that before slowly nodding in what had to have been the first sign of respect he had ever truly given me.

Many people could argue that sacrificing Nemesis was a bad idea. The issue then lies with the fact that we are heavily outnumbered. We have factories being built to offset the pressure that the ones currently in operation were suffering under to meet demands.

While our droids were far more difficult to take down, it still didn’t fully change the fact we are heavily outnumbered. More members of the Quiet Hand could be sent to do this mission.

The problem is it wouldn’t exactly stop Nemesis or the others from dying if desperate measures were used. And of all the summons, Nemesis had close to the lowest cooldown before he could be resummoned again.

Still a significant amount of time when he could be used when not dead, but the others that could do what he was meant to would take longer and could be used for far more than just a big intimidating fist.

“Now it’s time for all of you to go.” I whispered into the void. “Show them Nemesis what a god of ruin looks like.”

I soon walked off to begin the process of convincing Grievous of a necessary upgrade to his body to ensure he reached his full potential and avoided his death at the hands of Kenobi.

…

Far off from the ship, Toby and the others watched the plan proceed from, on another ship shaped after a dagger, just leaving hyperspace with a quiet whisper. The dark glinting dreadnought loomed closer to a mid-rim world like the growing shadow of death when it was time for it to come.

The ship was the same one Nemesis and Pitou together had managed to capture when the Republic had been denied Jabba’s hyperspace lanes. It had been heavily modified to the point it could no longer be described as a Venator.

Below in the ship's deeper levels within the hangars, it was paradoxically ordered chaos. Mandalorians of Death Watch and various other clans did last-second checkups on their equipment, running their hands over their new Beskar armor and cleaning it.

Hands cradled blasters, checking them over. All of it is nothing more than pre-battle rituals for every single one of them. After all, they had already checked everything, and it was all fine. Bo-Katan herself stared out across the thin barrier keeping the void that was space from them.

Movement behind her made her turn back to see her own personal Baselisk War Droid standing behind her. She was still in awe of all that had been granted to them. Toby kept true to his word and then some.

A few clans had non-functioning war droids that were family legacies and relics of a bygone past they couldn’t hope to recapture. Yet before all of them stood the infamous droids their ancestors had used to break planetary forces before they could even put up a fight.

Her heart raced at the anticipation of riding this down to the surface of Ord Mantell. Then the heavy thuds that notified everyone of who had arrived.

The bulkhead doors opened with a silent hiss, and what stepped through them was a towering nightmare walking through the drop pod bay. Nemesis was no longer just an Umbrella bioweapon. He had become an apex predator baptized in the waters of Nen. A thick intimidating aura bubbled off of him that made all the Mandalorians grip their weapons tighter, as each of them could feel it much better now with a deeper understanding of Nen.

It was a monstrous manifestation of Enhancement that twisted his already horrific visage into that of a god of ruin and destruction to any who looked upon him. Whether they knew and could use Nen or not was irrelevant.

Those that did gulped and did their best to hide their fear. It wasn’t often when glory-seeking Mandalorians found themselves afraid, but for them all to collectively fear the creature spoke volumes.

The signal was given, and they all snapped out of it. Helmets were worn, suits sealed, and the numerous war droids that their ancestors had famously used now graced the galaxy once again.

The instant their fleet of ships alongside their heavily modified Venator moved into position, the enemy fleet, while nowhere nearly as reinforced as other worlds, was still enough to give most pause. Under normal circumstances, they would have questioned such orders to engage such a fleet.

But with so many things at their disposal and seeing just how much punishment Toby’s droids and ships could take, the Mandalorians had the utmost confidence they could win.

Some of their ships moved to engage the enemy fleet while the bay siren wailed with flashing red lights telling them all it was time. Nemesis’s malicious Ren began to leak out.

It was so dense, so utterly suffocating, that the very air in the hangar vibrated with a sickening toxic pressure. His single pale eye locked onto the planet below. He let out a low, guttural roar that rattled the deck plates, almost making them twist and get torn asunder from the pressure.

Bo closed her visor, her own Nen blooming into a sharp, disciplined shroud around her, polished to a sheen of armor. She was far from a master with Nen. Her understanding of the life energy was novice, frantic, and raw. But her sheer indomitable Mandalorian willpower forced the aura to obey, tightly binding it to her Beskar armor to magnify its already legendary durability.

“For our ancestors. For Mandalore!” Bo-Katan barked into the comms, her voice amplified by her conviction. “Ride them down!”

Everyone did as told, all of them ready for this one pivotal moment. Instead of dropping down from orbit in drop ships, they straddled the hulls of the newly rebuilt, heavily refurbished Basilisk War Droids. These mechanical beasts were iron monsters of a forgotten era, retrofitted with modern shields and roaring thrusters.

Behind them were large container drop ships. They groaned, and the sounds of scrapes, hisses, and the occasional booming roar that almost matched the intensity of Nemesis came from them.

Nemesis led the charge rushing forward in a blur of muscle and flesh. His legs hammered against the deck plating before, with a great flex, he leapt out of the ship, past the protective barrier, and into the cold void of space.

The war droids all rocketed off after the hulking bioweapon. The creature's favorite weapons were stored in twin black boxes strapped across its back, just to protect them from entering the planet's atmosphere and landing.

For Bo-Katan and the rest of the Mandalorians, this was heaven for them. A dream none of them ever thought they would live to see. Stories had existed for countless generations of their ancestors doing the exact thing they were doing now.

They clung to the droids that raced after Nemesis, who was completely unphased by the empty space around it. Air seemed to be an afterthought for the creature, yet another unsettling thing about it.

The ships exchanged turbo lasers, red and blue dancing across the dark, cold depths. Fire and metal soon joined the few colors, and the war droids weaved through the debris and enemy ships, helping destroy sections of the ships before moving past them.

The enemy fighters tried to intercept them, but their backup fighter squadrons straffed them, forcing them to disengage unless they wanted to lose the majority of their own fighters.

Now past the enemy fleet with those cargo ships trailing behind them, they began the descent. A wave of vertigo came over them. All of them watched in awe as the yellow and orange glow of atmospheric entry showed itself across the shield of the droids.

Bo-Katan and the rest of her fellow Mandalorians if it wasn’t for their sealed helmets, everyone would see big smiles on their faces. Nemesis himself was still ahead of them, his aura shrugging off the burn of the atmosphere being the first thing to resist and failing to stop any of them.

The descent became not just fire but a steel blitzkrieg. The planetary defense force originally consisted of a decent-sized garrison of Republic clone troopers, further bolstered much like everything else the Republic is stationed at with countless legions of hijacked Separatist battle droids.

The instant the ground forces capable of shooting at them spotted them, they opened fire. A wall of blue plasma and red laser fire rose to meet the invaders.

It wasn’t enough.

Some of the Basilisk war droids alongside Nemesis slammed into the surface like meteors. The kinetic impact alone leveled entire defensive grids, sending shockwaves of dirt, metal, and vaporized clones into the atmosphere. Before the smoke could even clear, the rest of them, still airborne, rained hell upon the clones who were nothing but imitations of real Mandalorians in the eyes of Bo-Katan and the others.

Entire missile salvos created swaths of blooming explosions. The crimson rain of heavy blaster fire joined it as if the heavens were weeping tears made of blood. Droid and clone alike were utterly decimated without an ounce of mercy.

The infrastructure and any defenses they had in place, whether turrets or armored vehicles, were cut down with impunity. Then came the cargo drop ships.

They didn’t even bother finding a landing zone, more so, they made their own. The massive armored frames of the ships smashed through the few buildings that remained standing of the military installations, sending them crashing down.

The ships opened up, and for those that survived who thought they would have a chance of a long, drawn-out guerilla campaign, soon had those ideas destroyed when what stepped out of the darkness of the dark abyss inside of the drop ships.

The battle droids that marched fearlessly paused when massive forms rushed out of the darkness and slammed uncaringly into the droids. The Death Claw shocktroopers leaped into the mass of droids with a zeal most animals could not match.

They were absolute engines of carnage, ripping through the former Separatist droids like cheap tin with their claws carving through them with terrifying speed and efficiency, their slavering jaws snapping shut on the armor of screaming clone troopers. The apex predators of the capital wasteland flooded the streets and rubble-picking off any survivors or reinforcements who had the misfortune to be facing down the hellbeasts.

Through the rising, raging inferno walked Nemesis.

The Republic, and especially the clones, were well familiar with the monster, having far too many recordings of the creature committing mass slaughter against the clones' fallen brothers.

A squad of AT-RT walkers zeroed in on the bioweapon, unleashing a barrage of heavy blaster fire. Nemesis didn’t even flinch. Channeling his brute strength into Ko, he concentrated his terrifying Nen into his right fist and slammed it into the earth. The ground erupted. A shockwave of pulverized stone and Nen energy shot forward, flipping the walkers like toys and shattering the clones inside their armor from the sheer concussive force.

An Arc trooper captain tried to bring some order to the chaos by rallying a line of clones and firing a synchronized volley at Nemesis’ chest. The plasma hit an invisible rubbery wall of Ken and dissipated harmlessly. For once in Nemesis' short life, it gave a smile. To the clones it looked like a horrifying stitched grimace.

One of the two black containers stored on his back opened with a hiss. A hand grabbed a massive modified slugthrower, lacing the weapon and its current loaded projectile with his explosive aura. A single pull of the trigger and the resulting blast didn’t just explode. It detonated on the clones with a catastrophic Nen amplified shockwave that vaporized a three-block radius, leaving nothing but a massive smoking crater and molten metal.

In the distance, Bo-Katan was a whirlwind of lethal grace. A legion of B2 super battle droids flanked her position, their wrist blasters firing continuously. She worked in tandem with her war droid, the two were a well-oiled machine. The two covered one another, tearing through the oncoming horde of metal with a ferocity that few things could ever match.

She moved to and fro, firing shot after shot from both of her blaster pistols. It took too many shots to down them, but she still managed, but with the oncoming tide, it made it rather difficult. Her droid by her side opened its mouth, showing a hidden laser cannon that hummed before a powerful beam swept out across the street, tearing through the horde.

It gave them room to breathe, but it couldn’t get them all. Bo-Katan could have done what most of the others did and stayed airborne, reigning destruction from above, but like the few others that joined her, she preferred getting up close and personal.

She had her pride and wasn’t about to be outdone by an abomination like Nemesis, who could barely string together a couple of words to form a half-coherent sentence. Another massive explosion detonated in the distance that wasn’t from the droids or her fellow brothers and sisters.

No.

It was Toby’s pet laying waste to anything in its path. She would give it this. It was good at one thing it seemed good at and craved -- killing and destroying.

The droids continued to push, and she had enough of keeping her distance. Armor combined with Nen took the few blaster shots that managed to land and was shrugged off. She leapt into the fray, using Ryu to shift her limited Nen reserves directly to her gauntlets and boots. She ran from cover to cover, never stopping as she grew closer to the metal tide alongside her faithful Basilisk.

She struck a super battle droid with an enhanced kick, shattering its reinforced chassis into a thousand fragments. Several more strikes toppled more of the droids as if their armor was nothing more than cheap scrap metal.

A clone sniper off in the distance managed to land a high-powered bolt. Her aura combined with her Beskar armor prevented the bolt from doing anything more than snapping her head to the side. Her droid companion let their collective displeasure known when it fired a missile that turned the roof with the clone on it to fire and smoke.

Soon other Mandalorians joined her in the carnage as droids and clones alike were dispatched with terrifying efficient ease.

It wasn’t long after the brief skirmish that left much of the major infrastructure and defense forces for the planet decimated that they straddled their Basilisks and rode them back to space with Nemesis and the Death Claws getting on drop ships and moving onto the next planet.
