Judgement of Locke: Chapter 12
New chapter has just been sent out to subscribers and added to the backlog link. I had a lot of fun with this one, both with just the characters bouncing off each other and the structure with which this one gets told.
Tried an experimental new method for writing this one too, iterating with multiple outlines that got bigger and bigger. Started with a one paragraph outline for the chapter, then expanded that into a full page, and then turned the page into a bulleted list of every beat.
Figuring out how a scene plays out has always been the hardest part for me since I'm very picky about how it plays out. Whenever i try and just free wheel the scene and see how things play out, I'll end up rewriting a lot. This heavy outlining approach mitigates that issue, since it's way easier to rewrite an outline than a draft. I spent about four days on the outlines, then only three days on the actual writing part. Gonna see if I can stick to it and how effective it is in the long run. Since next week is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), it'll be a good chance to really push myself. Gonna aim for at least 30,000 words! And saying as much here means it'll be really embarrassing to fall short, so that's another thing to keep me honest.
The plan is more Locke--I'd like to get to the end of Friday night before switching to another serial--but I might pivot to something else along the way, we'll see. In any case, thanks for the support and hope that you enjoy!
