I am unbelievably excited for today's progress report. Partially because this is my first time since July posting an actual weekly report they way I intended when I started these. Partially because I'm excited about the project generally and feeling more energized about it than I have in a while. And partially because I hit a major milestone that I've been holding in my heart since I first started acknowledging word count as a metric: I crossed fifty thousand words this past week.
That's officially a novel, according to plenty of reputable sources. And while it's somewhat arbitrary, and also doesn't account for narrative text versus code, it still feels like a massive testament to the work I've put into this project. I don't know if you can tell from the fitful way I post, but I have a lot of trouble maintaining consistent progress on creative projects. So to be able to step back and say "Hey. I've been working on this for long enough, and with enough persistent effort, to reach over a novel's worth of words?" That feels pretty fucking good.
I think the system I've worked out with a friend to help keep me accountable and make sure I'm writing every day has been a huge boon, and I'm also tremendously thankful for that. Here's hoping I can carry this momentum forward, and maybe I'll even have a playable public version before I know it.
- Version: 0.01
- Total word count: 52,665 (+5,672)
- Passages completed: 84 (+6)
See y'all next week!
