You Walked In

You took a wrong turn.
The alley was already wet, already watching. Neon bled across the puddles, and then she stepped out of it—hood up, red hair dark against the black, bat slung across her shoulders like it belonged there.
She doesn’t raise her voice.
“You entered my turf.”
A small, glossy-black smile.
“There’s no going back.”
The bat stays resting. She doesn’t need to swing it yet. The street already knows who it belongs to.
