Bonus – Big Parallaxin'
I kinda sidetracked myself on the poss monster sequence by trying to get the background parallax effect looking as good as I could.
I had to upload it as an MP4 because the optimized gif was 640 frames and over 15 MB, so you can be sure the final sequence won't have movement anywhere near as extreme or as smooth :p
But I think it looks really cool so I wanted to get a nice smooth version exported for posterity.
Update – I was experimenting with different methods of panning the parallax layers and Saz suggested I add a "shake" effect for damage. This also shows of the "pivot pan", which pans the background and foreground in opposite directions to give the impression that the camera is rotating around a pivot point.

Fun fact, I had to write some code to make generating the parallax remotely possible. I drew all the layers manually in GraphicsGale, and originally was going to just slide them around frame by frame manually, but I surely would have gone insane trying to working out the effect that way.
I found a really excellent "gale-splitter" command line tool on GitHub that lets me split all of the layers in my source file with all the layers that make up the background, then I have a C# script that loads those layers in and determines how many frames to generate, and how much each frame should be offset for each frame, then dumps it to a GIF. I can then load the resulting GIF back up in GraphicsGale and stitch it into other gale projects.
That's really neat!
You know, before his massive cock flops out, you could have told me this was footage from an obscure jrpg with that damage shake effect. Really cool stuff.
Excellent
