Update News
Hello, dear supporters.
I know many of you are eager for news about the next version of the game, and today I finally have something to share.
As most of you likely know, the next version of Back to Freedom will bring the story to its conclusion. This is the main reason why this update is taking longer than usual (in addition to dealing with shoulder tendinitis and caring for my son at home following his recent surgery).
The final version of the story is, by far, the largest and most labor-intensive one I’ve worked on since the game’s development began. It will feature more text, more new images, and more new video clips than any previous version. This is due to the way I'm constructing the game's ending, so it reflects most of the important choices the player made throughout the story. The game will have 11 main endings and hundreds of potential variations, making it highly unlikely that a player will see the exact same ending twice, even across multiple playthroughs.
As you might imagine, this has been an immense undertaking, but I finally have a projected release window. If everything goes according to plan, version 0.44 will be released during the final days of October or the first week of November.
You can expect 1 new in-game day (the last in the story), 8 new full scenes, dozens of new short scenes, 4 new achievements, new interface elements, an avatar creator as a final reward for unlocking all achievements, multiple improvements, bug fixes, and everything else you love about Back to Freedom.
I know that while many players are excited about the conclusion of the story, others are saddened that the journey is coming to an end. But every great adventure needs an ending, and every ending is followed by a new beginning. After the final version of the story, Back to Freedom will continue to receive sandbox mode updates, not only with content already in the story, but also with brand-new content. Therefore, I will be working simultaneously on the sandbox mode and the first chapter of the next game, which should be released sometime in the first half of next year. I can promise that if you enjoyed Back to Freedom, you'll love what I have planned for the next game, though it's still too early to share any details.
So, for those feeling sad that this game is nearing its end, please don’t be. I have many adventures planned to entertain you, my dear players, for years to come.
Moving on to a different topic now, as I mentioned in the previous post, the game will feature a scrolling credits sequence, much like a movie ending. For those supporters (or former supporters) who have contributed at the "Boss" tier ($20) or higher at least once and would prefer not to have their usernames appear in the credits, please let me know before the release of the new version so I can remove your name. Otherwise, I can only make this change in a subsequent version, which is expected to arrive in December as an update to sandbox mode.
Thank you all for your patience and for the incredible support you’ve shown me from the very beginning. You have changed my life and given me the chance to work on something I truly love, an opportunity many people never get in their entire lifetime.
Wishing you all a great day.
See you soon.
