This is a copy of the Patreon post that is public:

First, sorry about the silence. But there was not a lot to say until now. But let me give you the background necessary to understand what is going on, even though many of you have read most of this before:

  1. Worked on this game when I was unemployed, so I used 8-10 hours per day working on the game.
  2. I had a "golden parachute" from my previous job, so I could work on the game without issues, and not be too fussed about finding a job. I took my sweet time looking for a job, until I was running low on money.
  3. I now have a new full-time employer, and the job is pretty sweet.
  4. I now have 10-12 hours less per day (work + travel) to spend on game development. So I've lost roughly 50-60 hours of dev time per week. As you can see... that's quite a lot. I used to work roughly 7 days a week on the game. Now I have only Saturday and Sunday to spend on it, practically speaking.
  5. Until now the job was 4 month deal. 23rd of October, we'll see what happens.
  6. Last Friday the CEO said that they are willing to hire me for a full-time indefinite deal, if I am willing.
  7. So... in effect, this will become a permanent obstacle for my game.
  8. As a result, I have to downsize the Patreon. I can't guarantee a damn thing for release cycles or what I even are working on.

Why are you not shutting down the Patreon, then? So, y'see, Patreon has steadily over the years raised their cut of what creators get paid. My Patreon was set up as a dummy thing, very long time ago... so I am grandfathered into the lower fees.

I can't pause (I don't think Patreon even has that option anymore, I couldn't find it) the Patreon, nor can I close the Patreon either. Because if I do, if I ever want to do a Patreon again more regularly, I will be paying much higher fees to Patreon.

So... I have to leave this place with the lights on.

Does this mean you won't work on games any longer?

No. I am still working on games. Everyone is free to go look at: https://www.kingfear.com/ and see my progress bar and my occasional posts. The heatmap shows my activity. Right now it is a combination of my Git server (code & assets), and Basecamp (my planning & docs). So active day doesn't mean I actually progressed in a game -- as such, I might have just done a lot of design/writing for a game project.

It's no longer tied to just UNFOR (Unfortunate Adventure) either, so it tracks ALL of my coding/writing/planning/art -- for all of the games I work on.

Yes, I did work on multiple games. There was another game I was working on while working on UNFOR. However, it is FAR away from any kind of state that I could show it off. Also, I didn't think any of you were interested -- it's got no explicit content inside of it. Just adult stuff (gore, sexual situations, horror, despair), not y'know ADULT stuff.

What does this mean for Patreon?

It means that when I do something worth showing (new version of Unfor confirmed?!) or release anything worthwhile (a new game?!) I will post it here primarily. Then the paying members get AT LEAST a month of "early access" to it.

If it's an adult product, then only paying members get access to it, since that's Patreon policy.

But there will be no schedule, and I do not promise anyone anything, no matter how high the membership tier, except an early access to whatever I did -- and potential voting power if I ask for opinions on something.

What about Unfortunate Adventure?

It's got a few annoying issues, when it comes to working on it. The graphical style/approach/tech I chose, was based on the idea that I had 40+ hours a week to work on it. It wasn't too bad then, although a bit laborious.

But with 16 hours a week (max) to work on it... it's basically a wall that I've hit with no brakes.

So... I don't know what to do about it? Except crawl forwards really slowly?

I am thinking of viable solutions, and there's not too many. None of them would be quick solutions, either way.
