Version 0.2.3 Development Preview
Heyo!
It's about time I showcased what's coming in the v0.2.3 update.
Compared with the previous update, this patch is much more focused. I already overengineered enough menus and systems in v0.2.2 to last me several updates. This time, the main goal is simple: more events, a major investing overhaul, a practical save checkpoint system, and the idea for community-driven translations.
Without further ado, here is the current overview.
Upcoming Content
The current narrative for v0.2.3 sits at roughly 20,000 words spread across four new events. Two focus on ecchi content, while the other two focus on love.
Summary:
Summary:
- ~20,000 words
- ~650 images (projected)
- 4 new events (2 Ecchi | 2 Love)
- Investing overhaul (Island Exchange)
- Checkpoints
A Little About the Events
- Aya & Kiri: Intimacy Data (Ecchi) - Kiri's time in the library serves two purposes: irritating Aya and gathering data for her research. She hasn't accounted for how badly that research is about to blow up in her face.
- Sandra: Forced Break (Ecchi) - Sandra finally gets talked into taking a day off. As usual, she turns out to be right: things never go according to plan once she's away from the clothing store.
- Yuko: House Rules (Love) - While you're catching a breath from tennis, Yuko demands something with higher stakes. You pick the game, but Yuko isn't satisfied until she adds a house rule of her own.
- Aya & Kutori: Horror Marathon (Love) - We settle in with Aya and Kutori for a night of horror movies. It turns out one disc was mixed into the pile by accident, and it is very much not a horror movie.
Island Exchange
I remember someone requesting a more in-depth investing system. I took that to heart and, as usual, got a little too invested in it.
The result is a complete overhaul of the investing system, with generated market histories, proper charts, detailed portfolio tracking, and six completely legitimate companies.
Share prices update alongside in-game time, so the market continues moving while you explore the island and make other questionable decisions.
Checkpoints
Starting with v0.2.3, you will be able to download checkpoint save files directly from the server through the game.
If you lose your save, switch devices, or simply want to continue from a specific point, you will no longer need to search through Patreon posts for the latest checkpoint or manually move files around to install it.
This should be especially useful on phones, where file access can turn a simple save transfer into an archaeological expedition through six folders named Android.
The checkpoint files will be publicly available. You will not need to link a Patreon account to download them.
Community-Driven Translations (Idea)
I have been thinking about how translations could be added without pretending that a raw machine translation is already a finished localization.
So, I came up with this idea. Each language will begin with a machine-translated version marked with a red symbol in the language menu. It may still contain awkward phrasing, mistranslated jokes, or dialogue that no longer sounds like the character who is supposedly saying it.
Once community translators have reviewed and improved it, the symbol will turn blue. I am currently considering Spanish and Simplified Chinese as the first languages.
I'm planning to add a Translation Mode directly to the PC version of My New Island Life. Translators will be able to select an event and edit its translated dialogue while playing through it, with the original English lines displayed alongside it for context.
Once the review is finished, the game will automatically generate an .rpy file. Every changed line will be marked with @audit, so the translator will only need to send me the generated file.
The goal is to make translations available sooner, stay honest about their quality, and gradually improve them without delaying regular updates.
This is still a future-facing idea rather than a confirmed v0.2.3 feature, but I wanted to share the direction I am considering.
Outro
That is everything I wanted to show for now.
The events are written, and the visuals are about 40% complete. I'm aiming to release v0.2.3 in around three weeks.
Thank you for playing, reporting problems, leaving feedback, and continuing to support the project.
Cheers!
