The Silhouette and The Forge
Chapter 78

All of my attention and focus were brought back to my sole remaining body as my form turned fully liquid, looking like a worm that just had a magnifying glass directing concentrated sunlight onto it. Slime squiggled in all directions for a brief moment when the burning sensation faded away, and what was left of my Silhouette body was now destroyed with what was left of the station.

I could even see the blue glow of the station being outright annihilated with everything and everyone on it. A quick glance through the drones in the hallway showed Batman and the heroes trying to open the door but to no avail. The beautiful part about those doorways is if the location of the door that opens to where you're trying to go is destroyed, you can’t open the door.

Superman himself was yanking hard on that door, and it wasn’t budging. Something I am certain of is that he had never encountered such an issue like that before. But there’s a first time for everything in all of our lives, even his. I found myself thankful Necronium doesn’t negate my connection and control over technology.

Just as it couldn’t over Wonder Woman’s godhood. It could negate the elements based around magic, but the closer to her divinity, the less it would do to outright nothing. I let out a massive sigh of relief knowing Smith and the others had been stopped and the souls of them all had been gathered and…

Where’s Smith?! I checked again. His soul isn’t there… You have got to be fucking kidding me! I can’t let him get away. Getting up and ignoring the absolutely destroyed room that looked like it had gotten ransacked by burglars and then lived in by the messiest crackhead bums you could imagine.

Burn marks from my acid and holes in the walls, and everything I had owned in here was thoroughly broken and torn up. My gaze shifted to the blue light easily overtaking the sun's light. For a few seconds all of Gotham was bathed in that blue light high in the sky where Akira station had been.

My mind raced searching through the digital realm and finding only a few pieces of evidence of Smith possibly being in the area. Smith managed to give me the slip… That cannot be allowed.

He had proven himself a far greater threat than I would have believed him to be. With what he knows and the resources he could gain access to, he needed to be found and dealt with. I reached out to Light only to pause when Light, knowing of my newly gained capabilities, sent me an emergency alert.

It was Jade. Apparently while I was busy focusing all of my attention on the dire situation with Smith, she and Alfred were dealing with a situation at the Batcave. After reestablishing a contact network and getting the drones back up and running, he found out Sportsmaster really wanted Artemis back.

He also brought back up in the form of several League of Shadows members. I quickly got up and rushed to go to Wayne Manor, not willing to risk Jade or Alfred getting hurt. With that and the fact of how much it took to get Artemis back, I am not letting that happen.

Swiftly leaving my apartment and ignoring the people asking questions about what the noise was before I got in my car and drove as fast as I could. Gotham is in chaos right now with the Gotham PD trying their best to put out the fires created by Smith and his siblings. Light had been noting the damage, and it was a lot.

A crap ton of deaths the Alliance practically destroyed in a single day, with nearly all members dead. The saving grace was that most of the criminal element had gone legit, considering the job situation in the city and how the local economy was getting a lot better.

One thing that didn’t help was that the Court of Owls was getting blamed again, which I would have to rectify. I didn’t want a witch hunt happening. A hand went down my face as I drove like a mad man trying to get to Wayne Manor and help Jade.

I didn’t know what I was going to say to explain to them how I knew what was happening in their home or how I just happened to be conveniently near the manor when it all went down when it was so far out of my way when I was away from the clinic or my apartment.

Several turns were taken to avoid the worst of the traffic before I stopped slamming on the brake, the car screeching to a halt with the car behind me riding my ass and honking. My fist slammed down onto the dashboard of the car, making a dent and rocking the car.

“Son of a bitch! What the fuck is with today and everything going wrong?” I yelled out exasperatedly while ignoring the increased frequency of honking behind me.

Light just sent me a message that Pamela was in trouble now. May had been shot and Pamela kidnapped… I took in a long, shuddering breath before letting it out and releasing my grip on the steering wheel, which had gotten deformed under my fingers and bent.

A war waged inside of me. On one hand, Jade. On the other was Pamela. I closed my eyes, ignoring the asshole outside of the driver's door banging against my window, cursing at me, and trying to get my attention.

My decision was made… With my senses expanding, I reached out to Agent Michael and the other hunters who had remained loyal. Their orders were given along with an apology. It won’t just be data exchanged with them, but for now it would have to suffice.

They would be sent to the manor to provide backup as a final order from Silhouette since, as far as everyone was concerned, he was dead and left some lasting orders they would follow to both the letter and spirit.

Of course, they weren’t going to step in and reveal themselves unless they absolutely had to, instead, they would remain nearby as a safety net. Jade had grown a lot since I first took her in, and maybe she had grown enough that she could finally fight Sportsmaster. I know she likely couldn’t take him in a head on fight, but inside the Batcave? I think with a home-field advantage like that, she could hit above her weight class.

Plus, she also had Alfred. I don’t need to say anything further than that when she has him as backup.

The decision made, I was about to zoom off and find where Pamela had been taken before my driver's side door was yanked open and the man next to me tried to pull me out but found it rather difficult. “What the fuck, man?! You just stopped in the middle of the road- Hurk.”

His words died in his throat when my hand grabbed his throat and gave him enough of a squeeze that he found it hard to breathe and his eyes bugged out. His hands tried to get me off of him only to futilely attempt to break my grip. His eyes were wide in fear as he tried punching me only to see his attacks did absolutely fuck all to my face.

“Because I stopped abruptly in the middle of the road, I will give you a pass and not hurt you for it since I was in the wrong even if you took it too far. Considering the situation, I understand why you reacted the way you did.”

I unceremoniously let go of him, and he sucked in lungfuls of air, falling back onto the asphalt of the road before crawling away. I quickly left him behind, driving towards the flower shop, since my network had been down and only came up after the damage had been done. That’s not even getting started on the large chunks of it that were missing. I swiftly went through any form of surveillance, but none were active for a large portion of the city besides privately owned ones that weren’t part of the collective network.

The car eventually had to stop again when a massive traffic jam sat before me with no means of avoiding it. I growled before getting out and leaping onto the side of a building to the surprise of many people who noticed me as I got to the rooftops and made far faster progress.

Landing across from the flower shop and seeing no one in the front windows working until I noticed a hand lying around the corner of the building. Rushing over I see it was May who was breathing heavily and didn’t look good.

“May! Where’s Pamela?” I asked her, trying to help her by elongating my fingers. Her mouth opened and closed when she saw my fingers turn into tendrils that stretched, moving towards her bullet wounds. She had gotten shot five times. It was already a miracle she was still alive.

Though it didn’t look like she had much longer to live. My heart clenched, feeling like it was in a vice watching her fade away like this. Her breathing was slowing down and her movements few and far in between.

“Jason…” She struggled to get it out as if it pained her too much. I was already trying to get the bullets out while numbing her pain as best I could while administering regen and health fortification potions across her wounds.

She winced before reaching up and grabbing my hand with what strength she had left. Even when dying, she was strong. “Woodrue.” She finally got the rest out, and despite the pain she was in, she had such anger and hate for the man when uttering his name.

“Leave me. Save her. You… can’t save me.”

“No.” She came up short at that. She looked at me like I was a fool. Seeing her like this brought me back to the day I lost Fergus. I refused to let Pam go through what I did. “I don’t have time to get the bullets out now knowing that bastard took her. But I can keep you from dying, and when I get a chance, I can perform a surgery or get someone who can. Open your mouth.”

She looked at me for a brief moment before doing as she was told. I brought my finger up and shoved it in as her eyes went wide before healing potion juices flowed down her throat, and immediately her wounds started healing. The issue with this method was the bullets would remain lodged in her, but with my photographic memory and other medical tools, finding them shouldn’t be an issue.

Her breathing became much easier, and I was thankful Woodrue was a lousy shot when he must have been getting his ass kicked by an old lady if the blood patches and parts of what looked like someone's teeth were any sign she managed to hit him.

If he had managed to hit a major internal organ, I doubt she would be alive right now. “You have got to be the luckiest woman on Earth to have survived getting shot that many times for this long, you know that?”

Her smile became bitter as she gave me a rueful chuckle. “If you call getting shot five times and being forced to witness the closest thing you have to a granddaughter getting kidnapped while helplessly lying on the ground dying lucky, I don’t think I want to know what it would be like to be unlucky.”

She soon told me what car he was driving and the general description for it. Using that gave me the info I needed to get an idea where the rat bastard ran off with Pam. “Can you get back inside?”

“I can… since you’re going after him, make sure you get a good punch in for me, Daniel.” She paused as she made her way to the shop to wait for the first responders. “Also, I am sorry for how I treated you for so long. I know you’ll take good care of Pamela after I am gone.”

I didn’t have much to say to that, and I quickly gave her some potions to have in case she needed to heal any other damage done to her since she still had five bullets lodged in her body. I didn’t like leaving her like that, but time was of the essence. Various cameras and other surveillance across the city were somewhat functional, and a few drones that Light managed to get up and running again were helping, but with it all in disarray, it made things much more difficult than they needed to be. I had Smith to thank for the current dire situation.

But he was the furthest from my mind when Pamela was at risk. Moving across rooftops as a living blur with my connection to technology, I followed the hushed whispers and quiet voices that helped guide me when one camera from a pawn shop managed to spot Woodstain.

He was driving like a bat out of hell, easily acting like he had done something wrong and was running away from the scene of the crime. He constantly looked all around him, like Batman was about to drop out of the sky right onto the beat-up hood of the rust bucket car he had likely stolen. I assume as much because of how he looks, he didn’t look like he could afford anything off the old McDonald's dollar menu, let alone buy a car.

Watching where he was going while mapping out the few places he went past that I could confirm. It was several painful minutes of me rushing across Gotham even with Jet in my system as concern mixed with fear of what he intended to do with Pam. The temptation to move faster and cause a lot of damage through doing so crossed my mind several times, but I didn’t follow through. The city was damaged enough, I didn’t want to add to it if I could help it. But I had kept to a decision that by this point was set in stone.

No matter what, even if Batman is here to witness it or the rest of the Justice League, I am killing him. He kidnapped and hurt Pamela and shot May, an elderly woman, five times. Add in how much of a colossal asshole he is, if anything, him being dead would do the world a lot of good.

I finally came across where he left the car. The driver's side door was left wide open, as was the trunk, with no one in sight. The old rust bucket was parked in front of an older research facility that existed more as a tax write-off than anything else. What made me suspicious was how it was from a shell company whose true owner I couldn’t quite tell.

Even with me awakening to a new level of understanding and control over machines, I couldn’t figure out who owned it. It was several levels removed from the technology tree, showing me all that could be, since business wasn’t exactly technology. There was some bleedover, but not enough to just magic up an answer, and that led to some serious questions on who could do this without me easily finding out.

Those thoughts were pushed aside as my form shifted, turning from a young man into a long tendril of translucent slime that blended in with my surroundings well enough to avoid most people noticing unless looking directly at me.

Sliding into a vent above the building and working my way through the insides, I had to fight myself on not just pulling a Hulk and just charging through the walls and destroying anything in my path until I got to Woodrot and ripped him apart limb from limb to just heal him and repeat the process until I was satisfied he had suffered enough.

The place was somewhat taken care of with its out-of-date equipment. But I guess it was good enough for someone like Woodrot. My head snapped in a certain direction, and the few working cameras that were still functioning showed me exactly where he was.

I didn’t bother opening the doors and simply smashed, sliced, or melted my way through them. With Pam being so close, all subtlety was thrown aside. With me crashing through any obstacle in my way, it didn’t take me long to get to the chamber where the last active camera saw the bastard rush in, pushing Pamela on an old gurney. That was a few minutes ago…

The massive chamber doors that wouldn’t look out of place in a vault were my only obstacle. The doors, unlike anything else I had encountered, took more effort to break through. The metal deformed under my grip, the acid hissing against the metal, and any attempt my tendrils tried to make to either find a gap to slip under only finding nothing.

My eyes narrowed, and I banged my fist against the metal bulkhead doors in frustration. “Fuck this.”

My insides shifted and changed, adding the extra parts necessary for a more extreme technique. “Power of youth, don’t fail me now.”

A pulse went through me before power flooded across my body. The first gate opened, and the bulkhead doors groaned and protested under my grip as my slime body perfectly created a replica of my old body with a chakra network included. Even without the conventional muscles my body packed, it still held back. I think it was a mixture of my mind still viewing myself as human and all the limits that came with it.

Even with all the enhancements, if I tried punching through a wall of adamantium and didn’t hold back in the slightest, it would harm me in my old body. That mentality still persisted even now. The other thing I still believe is that despite my slime body's absurd durability and strength, it still could be harmed if I pushed myself too much.

Like moving so fast that the entirety of it could just get shredded from moving too fast and hitting something so hard. I had yet to find the limit, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t any at all. The potions and other enhancements that further boosted it up helped raise the bar if it even existed.

With the first gate opened, whatever doubts or hesitation was there dried up, and only raw determination remained as my body pushed far harder, the metal crumpling under my grip. Whether it was the latter or the former, it didn’t matter to me when it gave me the extra strength necessary to save Pamela. But it wasn’t fast enough.

The second gate opened, and I felt the absurd energy coursing through the entirety of my body overcharge, and the doors cratered. Still not fast enough. The third gate, the gate of life. My equivalent to a spinal cord sent energy to my newly formed heart, making it pound like a war drum.

My muscles' output became several times what they were before. The doors were now like putty in my hands as they warped, twisted, then screeched as they were forced out of my way.

With zero hesitation, I marched into the room, seeing a massive lab. At the center of it lay two chambers with various tubes and wires running from each other, and various computers with different kinds of plants in various states were on the outskirts of the room.

What drew my eyes as I felt my heart clench was Pamela unconscious and suspended in the smaller chamber that was more akin to a metal coffin. The other bigger chamber showed through the reinforced glass what had to be Woodrue writhing and moving while suspended in a dark, sickly green fluid that flooded the chamber.

A dark smile formed on my face with his twitches and movements. It seemed like he was in pain. Good. That would be the appetizer for the main course I was about to subject him to.

I slammed into the floor, cratering it in front of Pam while I eyed the machine. Pamela was no longer the same woman to my horror. Her skin had become a verdant green, and her red hair stood out much stronger, while her body had become more mature and curvaceous. Yet I already missed the way Pam looked before.

Not that she wasn’t attractive now, but I didn’t want this to happen to her. Her body was on full display, whatever clothes she had were now gone, with a lighter green liquid filled partially in there along with various roots and plants growing around her.

The machine told me everything. Woodrue was using Pam because he had discovered she had an inactive metagene that was connected to plants, and the machine was meant to help the madman bridge the gap to the higher consciousness that plants are connected to in his theory.

I swiftly deactivated the machine, with it opening with a gurgling hiss, the liquid spilling out as I ignored it, using plenty of antidote potions secreted out of me, neutralizing any toxic effect it had. A simple glance told me that most people would get mildly poisoned by it if it made physical contact.

It wouldn’t kill them but make them look and feel incredibly sick. A dull thud against the bigger chamber had me glance over to see a contorted hand smacking against it. Jason’s darkened and distorted form pressed against it.

Unconcerned with the bastard for now, the entirety of my attention was all on Pamela, who remained unconscious. I tried to shake her awake, but no luck. Her pulse was slow but stable. My hand trailed over her cheek, cupping it as I let out a shaky breath.

I placed her down beside me, turning towards the soon to be dead man who was slamming into the pod, making it shake and rattle, the metal warping from the force it was subjected to.

I felt it now that I was focused on killing the bastard. The liquid in his chamber… It had the same taint Klarion left behind when the old Court of Owls was destroyed. How Jason managed to get Chaos magic into this was a question for another time.

Using my magic, the moisture in a certain radius was sucked up and turned into a highly combustible material. I had already collected what information I could from the systems in this place, which gave me nothing of note as to who helped him. I had an idea, but it wasn’t a guarantee.

The only form of evidence was Klarion's magic being in that goop he was floating in. The liquid dropped all across the pod. Going through hand signs forming the final one before adding an extra one.

It took the form of me giving him the bird before I blew out a truck-sized fireball that slammed into the pod. The chaos magic-infused plant goop added to the growing inferno that soon engulfed the entirety of the lab.

Pamela was bridal carried by me as my ward kept the worst of the fire and flames from us. I leapt out of the room and moved fast enough the worst of the explosion couldn’t get us. With three of the eight gates opened, with Jet further bolstering me, it couldn’t touch us.

Faster than the blink of an eye, I was outside of the building with it going up in flames, with the sound of the explosion drowning out the various sounds across Gotham from the state of emergency they found themselves in.

I turned to take Pamela to a place that I knew would have the equipment necessary to check her health and see what’s going on with her body. A single step and I blurred back, avoiding a blackened root spearing through the concrete.

The thing looked sickly, like it was halfway rotted and should be dead yet still clung to life, with the rot becoming a part of it. More erupted around me and the entire parking lot, with nearby buildings collapsing with giant plant tendrils erupting out of them.

“Return my property, boy.” A voice I had believed to be dead spoke up from the first tendril.

“She isn’t anyone’s property, Woodrot. I would recommend leaving Gotham while you have the chance. Once Pamela is safe, I am coming back to deal with you.” My voice was cold and was a stark contrast to the flaming fury that coursed through my body.

My protective grip over Pamela’s vulnerable form grew when a long, gangly, and unnatural blackened arm made out of rotted wood and dark tree bark with fungus along it erupted out of the root.

The rest of his body soon joined it. A look of disgust grew on my face, looking at the horrid abomination that stomped forward. His limbs were thin branches that were twisted at unnatural angles, fungus and ooze dripped off of him.

His torso looked like a malformed log left too long inside the putrid waters of a swamp. His head, the end of a thick tree branch broken off with the chips of bark, looked like a crown with moss and various fungi hanging off of his head, and his nose stuck out like those childish cartoon witches.

The various plants around us, not like Jason’s, withered away, curling in on themselves and twisting into grotesque rotted forms. Yet they all writhed and moved as if they were alive somehow.

“The process was incomplete.” He spat, his mouth opened showing nothing but black oily rot that scarred the air that touched it, his teeth jagged thorns and splinters. “I still have a use for her.”

He pointed a single gnarled finger at Pamela, and the plants he had corrupted acted. The grass, now more like seaweed, grew out and tried to grab me and Pamela. The grass closest to us was somehow untouched by the taint coming from Woodrue.

It wasn’t difficult to put two and two together. Pamela had her powers now, and the grass closest to us was safe. So whatever Woodrue had become wasn’t good compared to Pamela since any plant near him became sickly and looked like death had paid them a visit.

Disappearing and reappearing beside Woodrue, the grass turned to slimy chunks, and Woodrue was chopped to wet splinters and tossed towards the flaming building. Yet it didn’t stop the corrupted plant life from trying to ensnare me.

Weeds that appeared half-drowned broke through concrete, twisting like tentacles from the deep. Dandelions grew, and the floating seed carriers became twisted thorns launched towards me. Most were evaded, and the rest were knocked aside by the back of my hand, impacting their surroundings like a high-caliber bullet.

Despite me shielding Pamela, whether through magic or my body, it would seem it wasn’t needed when each attack was always aimed towards me and not Pamela. The damsel held gently in my arms like a delicate flower stirred a little but remained unconscious.

“Give me the girl and I’ll let you get a head start, boy.” Woodrue’s voice came from all around me in the grotesque garden that just continued to grow.

I could only shake my head in amusement. “A head start? You're not even going to bother letting me live?”

“The time for any mercy for you has long since faded away. Only pain and suffering await you, but I am generous enough to let you try and run.”

Leaping up and over a tendril that tried to impale me from behind before leaping off of various plants that all attempted to smother me. Landing a safe distance as I let out a harsh chuckle that seemed to grate on what was left of Woodrue’s nerves if the plants pausing and shaking in what could be confused for anger was a sign.

“All that power and you're still an idiot. Only a fool like you would believe you had any chance of winning against the world, let alone me.”

“H-how dare you?! Bow before… before… The Floronic Man!” He said grasping at straws when it came to his supervillain name.

I threw my head back and laughed deep from my slime equivalent of a stomach. The plants around us tried desperately to grab and tear me apart. Any attempt at keeping Pamela unharmed fell apart when the strikes almost hit her.

“More like Moronic Man. What the fuck kind of name is that?” I said between laughs, twisting and bending in the air, evading so many strikes that were it not for the boost from the gates and various drugs and potions, it would have overwhelmed me.

A hand lashed out, touching each plant while Woodrue had enough and formed another body out of a thin spear of what once was a blade of grass. His fingers grew longer and lashed out for me. Despite his power over plants and whatever cancerous corruption he was spreading, he was faster than most humans, but he was still too slow for me.

Leaning out of the way of his strike and countering a nasty kick that sent his head flying off and cracking against what was left of the concrete. Woodrue’s body, however, didn’t stop and continued trying to slice and dice me, one hand's fingers became poisoned wood knives, and the other formed into a whip-like spear with barbs dripping that dark green liquid.

He rushed towards me before missing and falling into a patch of writhing vines. Leaping over a whip strike that snapped a street light like it was nothing before, his upper body formed out of a mixture between a mushroom and a tree, lashing out with his arms.

Long since fed up with this guy, a single hand went through a few hand signs before I expelled several mini fireballs that were soon joined with blasts of wind from the multiple mouths that formed across my body.

The fire ignited the plants around us before the wind touched them, and it became a hellscape. A ward sprung to life with me covering Pamela in a tarp taken from a nearby car that had been totaled. Inscribing the Goron runes on it, she was left undisturbed by the flames that washed over the city block, with Woodrue screaming for once in pain, and Pamela herself was moving, her face scrunched up in discomfort.

Landing on top of a nearby building, watching the flames soar high into the sky before, to my growing annoyance, Jason proved he wasn’t dead yet again. Despite wiping out all of his toxic plants, he still just wouldn’t fade away.

A massive root speared through the decrepit building with not just one Woodrue, but six of them. “That hurt.” All of them growled out.

“Good. There’s more where that came from, Moronic Man.”

“Shut the hell up!” One of the bodies charged at me to instead get his body crushed via a stomp from above.

All of his bodies were eviscerated and crushed, but more just kept coming. What was six was now twelve, what was twelve became fifty, and on it went. The building collapsed from the horde, and it poured out into the streets with Gotham PD finally showing up and trying to shoot the plant men before them only to do nothing.

I appeared beside Jim Gordon himself, who had a Dirty Harry revolver in hand briefly aimed at me as he tried to organize this as best he could. “Take her and keep her safe. He’s after her.” I placed Pamela in his arms, and before he could ask any questions, I was already slamming my knee into the wooden head of Woodrue, which smashed apart with a wet thud.

Any of his bodies or plants that tried to get near Pamela were destroyed, but it was getting more and more difficult. His numbers were growing to the point I couldn’t keep them all from her even with my absurd speed.

Jim Gordon, realizing I was right, placed Pamela in the squad car, and after ordering the others to retreat for now since they weren’t equipped to handle this, more plant tendrils rose up, blocking the cars from leaving.

Our gazes snapped up, seeing the tendrils rise up a mile high in the air. Buildings were bulldozed, roads cracked and became rolling hills from the roots under them. Several city blocks just transformed into a rotting green jungle.

“She goes nowhere. Giver her to me and I’ll let you all live.” Jason rasped. The cops and I circled around trying to see which way he would come from.

“He can make physical bodies from any of the plants around us. Also, don’t touch the green goop. He’s tried to stab me with that stuff. I don’t know what it will do, but it can’t be good.”

“Kid, that’s going to be easier said than done.” Bollock said, side-eyeing every plant in the distance like they were bombs.

“Maybe we should…” One cop started looking like he was ready to give up just to leave this alive only to fall silent at the stern glare Commissioner Gordon gave him.

“We are protecting her. Daniel Cunningham, I presume?” He said while holding his revolver at the ready.

“Yep. Nice to finally meet you, Commissioner Gordon.” I said, going over any plans I could form on how to kill the bastard. If he was somehow connected to the green, it made things incredibly difficult on killing him.

Containing him was… I wouldn’t say impossible, but I was drawing a blank on how to contain and imprison him on short notice with my resources in disarray.

“I wish it was under different circumstances, but it wouldn’t be Gotham without some life-threatening event happening almost every day," Jim deadpanned.

I quickly explained the situation to them with the plants slithering across the ground, ooze dripping from them like rotting zombies losing their flesh over time.

“So he wants her to finish whatever he was hoping to do? This isn’t enough for him?” Jim Gordon was exasperated about the cause of all this and how the man was wanting more despite what he had become.

Woodrue now had plenty of power, yet it wasn’t enough. I doubt anything would ever be enough for him.

“Well? What is your answer, Jim Gordon? Keep in mind, I can always find both your and the other cops' families.” He said, getting impatient.

Jim’s and the others' eyes narrowed at the threat. “No. Jason Woodrue, you can either surrender or we will have to use force.”

“Ha!” He cackled at the threat. “What could you possibly hope to do to me? I am a god now! And as your new god, your suffering along with your family’s will be great entertainment. My generosity has reached its limit dealing with fools like you.”

Commissioner Gordon wasn’t even bothered by the threat, the only sign of emotion from him was his grip tightening around his pistol. Same for the other officers on the scene.

“That makes two of us.” I grinned, turning towards Jim Gordon and the few officers with him. “I’ll try my best to keep his attention. I will create an opening, use it, and get Pamela far from him. I don’t want to find out what he will become if this is what he is like incomplete.”

Gordon gave me a searching look, having long since learned to not question strange things when they were helping. Like the green woman he cradled in his arms and a red-skinned guy like me. “You think you can do that?”

My confident smile was enough for the man to nod slowly before gesturing towards the other cops. They all slowly started to move towards their cars.

The plants stilled for a brief moment, then snapped forward when Woodrue realized they were going to still try and run away with Pamela. The fourth gate, the gate of pain, opened, and Woodrue for once finally shut up.
