Some thoughts and changes after the first month

Thanks to everyone who has been supporting me so far! You've been a great motivator for me to continue being productive and making more animations.

It's been a month since I joined SubscribeStar, so I feel like it's a good moment to share some of my thoughts, and announce some changes based on my experience thus far.

TL;DR

  • $5 tier will get basic status updates (text posts about upcoming animations). WIP animations/renders continue to stay exclusive to $8+ tiers.
  • Next month will get more, but shorter, animations.
  • Longer projects will be split into parts, so you'll get more frequent posts, and I'll get more flexibility between parts.

Let me know what you think! You can always post a comment, or send me a DM.

Transparency

I've come to realize that Eager Furs ($5 tier) don't really have any idea of how frequently I'll be posting. Will the next animation come out in a week, or a month?

The higher tiers got regular status updates on upcoming projects, including work in progress animations and renders. Since you likely don't get notified of these posts, there is no good progress indicator for you.

To improve transparency, I'll now be posting project updates on the $5 tier as well. This won't include any pictures or animations - those will stay exclusive to higher tiers. But you can expect some text posts that provide estimates on how far along my current animation project is, and roughly when it might release.

Quantity vs Length

This topic is a tough one. I find that there are too many short simple animation loops available online, and very few projects that try to tell a full and varied story.

On the other hand, keeping you waiting for months between each project is not realistic, especially if it's a project that you are not thematically interested in.

My current thoughts on this are:

  • For the next month, I'll try making some shorter animations. This allows me to release content more frequently. It'll also make it easier to create exclusive alternative versions and sound edits as well.
  • Longer projects will be split into parts in the future. So there should never be a too large gap between content, and the end result can still tell a larger story.
  • I can also take breaks between parts to create other short content; or drop the project entirely if there is no interest in it anymore.
