Actions Have Consequences

Ventress was in a perfectly foul mood. Her ship glided towards the resupply frigate, engines purring. It was supposed to be simple. Land, glare at any of the idiot droids, refuel, take off, go rescue Nute Gunray, and resist the urge to murder him herself for getting himself captured over a petty grudge and by an incompetent Gungan who couldn’t stay on his feet two seconds before causing some catastrophe.

She leaned back in her seat. “Five minutes,” She muttered in the dark confines of her ship, more to herself to shake off whatever bad feeling she had about it. Not that she would get captured or die, but more due to her believing the mission could take longer because of some complications. “In and out.”

The ship's sensors chirped, drawing her attention. Frowning, she looked up from them to the view of the frigate. “Why is that ship's weapons grid active?”

Before she could question it any further, her cockpit screamed.

Her sensors cried out a missile lock. “What the--”

A missile streaked past her viewport so close it rattled the ship, missing by a mere arm's length. Now past her ship, it tumbled end over end, running out of fuel into the void before detonating uselessly in the distance.

Ventress jerked the controls, spinning hard, feeling an anger she hadn’t felt in a long time. Her hand slammed on the comm.

“Who fired that missile?” She demanded, seething, as the droid on the other end was silent. “Identify yourself, you malfunctioning piece of--”

…

Everyone was frozen in the room, looking at the important looking ship that just screamed someone important was coming closer to the ship I was on. “Everyone pretend like nothing happened. We are just cleaning the room and doing maintenance, no one pressed anything. Got it?”

A chorus of agreements as I dreaded who that was on that ship. Then the comm panel on the chair lit up. “I know you can hear me since the ship's commander gave me access.” A woman’s voice seethed through it, sounding absolutely furious.

“Whoever is in that weapons control room, you will identify yourself.” I recognized that voice. It was Asajj Ventress. All of us turned to stare at the ship that had a very real, very angry Ventress in it, and she was heading right for our ship.

“Answer me!” She yelled as her form appeared in front of us in the form of a hologram.

I stared at it, whatever processors I had for mechanical neurons ran at max capacity.

Option A: respond responsibly.
Option B: make something up.

“This is… uh-- acting squad leader!” I said. “How can we–”

Her expression turned apocalyptic. She looked like she was ready to murder us all. “Who. Fired. That. Missile.”

Every droid pointed at a different droid.

“Him.”

“--No him!

“I thought it was a door control.”

Ventress’s form loomed over us. She looked menacing. You would think a scrawny bald woman wouldn’t be intimidating, and normally it wouldn’t. Asajj Ventress, on the other hand, screamed violent murder just with the expression on her face.

“I am going to count to three,” She hissed. “And if I don’t receive a satisfactory answer, I will personally turn this ship into debris.”

If I could swallow, I would have if I still had a throat. My eyes flicked towards the exit. Then the mop and comm panel. A terrible idea formed. A beautiful idea. I didn’t think about it before, but with my new body, I could steal a certain robot's catchphrase.

I leaned into the panel. “Bite my shiny metal ass.”

My comment silenced her. The other droids all whipped their heads to look at me as I stared down at the comm panel.

Ventress's angry expression shifted to one of complete lack of emotion. It was even more terrifying than when she was angry. She blinked.

“…What?”

“Scatter! We all look like the other droids. She won’t know who is who because she’s a dumb meatbag.”

The droids exploded into motion. Two tripped over one another. Another ran into a wall. One dove through the doorway shouting, “I was never here!”

I vaulted out of the chair, fighting the others to get out of the room, thankful we all looked just like the other droids. Before turning the corner of the corridor and taking the mop and bucket with me, I heard her last words.

“…I am surrounded by idiots,” She muttered, eye twitching at our collective antics.

The other droids scrambled out as her ship docked with ours for what was obviously a resupply, as I felt the hate and anger wafting off of what had to be Asajj. She was definitely angry at my comment.

Yet it was worth it in my eyes since I got rewarded for saying what I did. What I got made me question if it was worth it…

[Charisma]
|Uncommon Trait|
You have a sort of charismatic presence around you, an aura that just pulls people in and makes you seem like more in their eyes.

I am beginning to think that whatever is the source of all this has a sick sense of humor. I need things to help me fight and kill! It made me want to throw my hands up in frustration. But I had bigger issues to handle.

“You!” I point at a random droid walking around unaware of the dire situation that I and the other droids were put in.

It was practically identical to me, and I, at least, was going to try to cover my tracks. “Me?”

“Yes. Come with me.”

Pulling the droid along as it did as told despite its confusion. “Stand here and hold this like so.”

Handing it a blaster rifle that was standard issue for us droids as that feeling of hate and anger was growing closer.

“Mercy-- agh!” A droid's scream was cut short by the hum of a lightsaber.

My Observation Haki practically screamed she was far too close for my liking. “Uh, what was that?” The droid asked, sounding oddly concerned. “And why am I aiming the blaster at my head?”

“That’s why,” I said as the trigger was pulled and the droid's head plopped onto the metal floor of the cleaning supplies room. Swiftly stepping out of the room and acting like I was on patrol.

“You!” Freezing before turning to face the angry visage of Ventress. “Where is the cleaning droid?”

Her lightsabers were in her hands as she scowled at me. “Oh. Back over there. The droid went in there with a blaster rifle.”

My hand pointed at the now closed room as she looked at me before stalking over and opening the door. She stepped back out, looking both confused and less than pleased by the situation. Whether she suspected me after I used that droid as a means to fake my death was hard to say. My haki could only feel the negative emotions coming from her before she managed to get them under control. But it couldn’t feel intent.

It was like a thundercloud that at any moment would unleash a bolt of lightning but was content to remain as an ominous dark cloud that hung around with everything on the ground incapable of making any predictions. She stormed off after giving me a look as I did my best to act awkward around her. Not that I wasn’t afraid of her.

She was a threat just like any other Force user, and if she used simple telekinesis, she could crush me, and there would be nothing I could do about it. Sure, I could beat her when it came to skills with a blade, but it won’t be a fair fight. Not to mention I’d rather not blow my cover completely and jeopardize everyone knowing who and what I am this early.

So satisfying as it was to say Bender's favorite phrase, it was not worth it. More power will help me, but not when I put myself at risk for a reward that was just not worth it.

As an old coworker put it, you need to pick and choose your battles but remember the big thing. You don’t need to fight all of them, and the ones you do, you need to be smart about how you fight them.

But it worked out when I got another ticket courtesy of faking my death.

[Water Bubbles]
|Trash Ability|
Allows you to blow harmless water bubbles from your body.

Now I just wanted to choke the life out of whatever keeps giving me these absolutely useless powers! Great, now I can blow bubbles at someone and hope they humor me long enough for me, the great bubble boy, to flee for his life. Definitely not worth it. My arrogance and cockiness almost got me ousted from a spur of the moment idea. Lesson learned: be better at controlling my impulses.

Asajj, looking less than pleased, stormed off. Well, she may not have gotten her satisfaction for punishing me, and I doubt she got all of the other droids, so those who survived me, included, can rest easy. It’s not like she was going to have the vast majority of us droids go on some suicide mission just because she didn’t get the chance to kill the one droid who insulted her by her own hand…

Right?

…

Let it be known that darksiders are petty little shits. I, along with a not-so-insubstantial number of droids from the resupply ship, was ordered onto several discreet transports to help Asajj in her mission. What the mission was wasn’t specified, just go in to kill clones and any Jedi.

This was all after she killed the droid commander, as his scream was cut off by a hum over the comms across the entire ship. Asajj then took command of all of us since our commander was a ‘traitor’.

Guess she believed that the missile was on purpose. Who she suspected to be responsible is beyond me, but she felt the need to take her grudge out on all the grunt droids. I felt a little bad about the droids but this wasn’t my fault. The droid that decided to press a button can be blamed for this.

The ship shuddered as we pulled near the landing bays for the Republic ship. The doors opened with us marching out. I knew she was holding a grudge when the basic B1’s were marching out in front of the tankier B2’s whose armor could hold up far better than ours.

Feeling thankful I was the last line before the B2’s with the clones putting up a fight but it may as well have been for nothing.

“Clankers!” A clone yelled into his communicator before with a precise shot he fell to the ground lifeless, and I internally winced.

It still wasn’t easy to take a life, but it had become easier after I had a chance to sort through my emotions. I accepted that lives would be lost during this and my hand would be forced to kill. I didn’t like it, didn’t take pleasure from it, but if I didn’t do something this galaxy and everyone in it was going to suffer.

And I would be caught in all of it when I had the means and potential to derail it all. So a few clones and maybe some Jedi along with who knows what else alongside the rest of the galaxy and my life or letting Sidious have his way? The decision was an easy one. The issue was that emotions are never logical.

Case in point, me looking at the dead trooper's helmet who felt like it was staring into my soul. He was dead yet it felt like I was being judged. A metal body pushed into my back as I glanced behind me seeing a big gray metal body.

“Get moving.” It said in a droning tone that made me want to smack it in the face with my blaster. Marching along with the others as we moved further into a corridor on the ship.

Blaster fire rained down on the droids from the front as I watched them topple over like puppets with their strings cut. Looking around for a chance to get myself something to hide in so no one would recognize me.

Seeing my chance I took a corner when the droids around me were too busy to notice as my haki told me the various emotions and locations of the clones and what felt like a Jedi amidst their ranks. Ventress herself had moved further into the ship sneaking around avoiding the fighting.

I have no idea if this was a canon event or some random battle that Star Wars glossed over or just never bothered to show. Regardless it was about to work out in my favor.

Opening a room showing several bunk beds in the room's metal walls quickly grabbing several gray sheets and tying them around my body to hide my form before nodding in approval at my appearance. No one would notice a thing about the body hidden under several layers of sheets.

More powers here I come!

Stepping out of the room only to freeze when my haki picked up several approaching droids. “Eliminate any clones.” A B2 said before they raised their weapons.

“Halt.” A B1 ordered hand raised only to stop when I ignited a lightsaber, having taken it out of my hidden compartment.

“Uh oh… We have another Jedi!” It cried out as they all started blasting. Raising a sleeve before a ball of pure darkness with tendrils of black lightning crackling around it before it shot forward impacting the head super battledroid with its launcher aimed at me.

The droid was torn to shreds along with many of the nearby droids. Feeling the emotions across the ship as my range seemed to grow I took notice that three seemed to react to my shadow ball. Two of them were feeling tense but one was calmer while the other felt anxious. The anxious one seemed to perk up when that attack was used.

Swiftly moving to slice each of the downed droids who were still functioning I made quick work lopping off heads or just skewering the vitals of what my mechanical knowledge told me about the super battle droids.

If you know how to put something together then you know how to take it apart. Azure blade piercing through its power source in its chassis. The last of them handled, I swiftly made my way towards the battle and a powerful dark presence loomed closer.

The crackle and hum of lightsabers clashing told me all I needed to know. Stepping out and watching the two graceful figures move about blocking and dodging each other's strikes. Or about as graceful as they would be to the untrained eye.

My gaze showed me all that I needed to know and I found both of them lacking. Asajj was arguably the better of the two with her being trained in Makashi and using whatever they called the duel-wielding form in the series. I think it started with a J… regardless I saw all of the flaws.

Every wasted movement, moments when either should have gone on the offensive or defense, when they could have ended the fight here or there in one swift motion. Of course, even I knew it wouldn’t be that easy with their precognition but it didn’t stop me from getting the better of that Jedi Knight.

Backing away from one another as I calmly walked over the fallen clone and droid bodies nearing the two. Luminara noticed me first her blade held at the ready guard up her feelings while controlled showed she was wary of me.

Asajj noticed Luminara's focus was no longer solely on her and turned, keeping both of us in her sight. “It would seem your master didn’t have absolute faith in you asassin,” Luminara said calmly yet even I knew her words were meant to undermine Ventress’s focus.

Ventress chuckled darkly. “Whoever they are, they are not with me.”

Luminara felt conflicted, unsure if this was some kind of trick. “She is correct since I am not with her. I would never lower myself to having such an amateur working alongside or under me.” I said with that deep Obito ‘Madara’ Uchiha voice.

Ventress' dark chuckle suddenly went quiet as she regarded me now sizing me up. I could feel the killing intent coming from her and briefly wondered if she was going to try for a quick attack to kill Luminara now. But she instead remained cautious while scowling at me.

“Amateur? Do you not know who I am?” Asajj asked me with a hiss not liking my dismissal of her.

“No. And I don’t care to know a random upjumped nobody Sith-trained assassin who tries desperately to pretend she is a Sith.” If Asajj was angry before then this was the equivalent of a volcano going off.

She screamed before charging me in a whirlwind made up of rage, black cloth, and white skin. Whatever control she had over her emotions was all but gone. Her twin crimson blades slammed into my blue blade.

Yet again I found myself thankful I couldn’t feel any pain beyond a vague sense of feeling otherwise I would be wincing from the force behind that attack. It was enough to force me back several meters.

Almost tripped over a few bodies along the way but I had bigger things to worry about than those. Namely, the sickly pale white bald bitch from hell coming right at me. Instead of meeting the attack head-on the blow was diverted yet my arms still vibrated from the force behind the strikes.

She was moving quickly but with flexible movements almost like a ballerina meets a wild animal. She moved like water from a raging river, always bending and weaving while I remained on the defensive. My movements were far faster and more agile compared to how I was before Pitou’s upgrades.

Even my reaction speed was better, helped by my strength being enough to swing the lightsaber around despite it weighing far more than most would assume. Yet for all of my body’s enhancements, it was still a piece of crap!

As my Dad said it best when it came to some shiny products, you can pretty up a hunk of crap all you want but it will always remain a hunk of crap.

My B1 body, despite my mind easily seeing several exploitable openings in Ventress’s attacks, wasn’t nearly fast enough to exploit them. Something the pale baldy seemed to pick up on since I wasn’t going on the offensive. My haki wasn’t nearly good enough to use in active combat either, only telling me when her emotions grew intense.

But that didn’t mean I was helpless. I remained on the defensive while Ventress taunted me. “Oh,” She cooed like a mother talking to her child, “What’s the matter? You said I was some nobody, well how is that looking now?”

She taunted before going for a flourish that would have taken my arm off. Unfortunately for her, she slowed down just enough to show off that I could take advantage. My blade snapped out like the fang of an ambush predator that she sensed swiftly backing away just in time. Had she not, the blade would have taken her hand at the wrist.

The entire exchange of blows was done in a matter of seconds, showing just how fast she was. The worst part about it is that I know she isn’t going all out. Someone who could take on Anakin and Obi-Wan at the same time and survive multiple battles is not weak.

“It’s looking like you just got taught a valuable lesson.” My remark was as dry as the Sahara. “Less swinging wildly and screaming, instead how about showing some proper Sith subtlety?”

Ventress’s glare could freeze hell over while Luminara smiled before she paused and Ventress’s lightsabers were brought up when my hand pointed at the black-clad woman thinking I was attacking. “I don’t know why you're smiling, this is as much a lesson for you as it is for her.”

Luminara’s smile became more brittle before it turned into a composed and calm expression. My hand wagged at her. “Ah yes, the supposed calm and collected Jedi-- because nothing says leadership quite like letting the galaxy burn quietly as a prelude to a galactic war.”

A spike of annoyance came from Luminara who frowned. “We did not wish for this to happen and we are doing our best to end it.”

A humorless chuckle escaped me, shaking my head at her rebuttal already having an idea I could use to my advantage. It was risky especially for anyone who was knowledgeable about famous figures in this galaxy’s history. Particularly force users.

“Really? If this is your best then it would seem much hasn’t changed since my time during the Mandalorian Wars.” I idly comment, dropping one of the major conflicts that shaped this galaxy into what it is now that happened several thousand years ago… I think.

Luminara appeared calm but I didn’t fail to notice her and Asajj’s eyes widening minutely before they both schooled their features. A hook loaded with bait was just tossed out into the open and the two of them had taken it.

Luminara herself, while wary of me, wasn't about to let Ventress get past her. Her lightsaber slashed out in a small strike that Ventress easily knocked away. Before Luminara could capitalize on Ventress being on the back foot my blade snapped out stopping her strike in its tracks with no small amount of effort from me.

It was like my arm just struck a steel wall. Sure I could leave a scrape or maybe even dent it but it was negligible. But it had the intended effect all the same as Luminara and Ventress both looked at me in a new light.

“If you’re not with the separatists, why help her?” Luminara was confused, not understanding what was happening.

“I see you were under the foolish impression I was working for either her group,” A nod towards Ventress who scowled looking more annoyed by me as the seconds ticked by, “Or your corrupt Republic.”

Luminara frowned at the contempt in my voice for the Republic. It didn’t need to be faked either. I was going to save the Republic, but not just from outside threats like the Separatists, but itself. The corrupt Senators and people who had too much power in it had to go or be removed from power one way or another. Power needed to be redistributed to those who desperately needed it.

As the Three Musketeers said it best, all for one and one for all. Luminara frowned as her feelings of displeasure were felt through my haki.

“The Republic has its problems, you are correct. But it is far from how bad you make it sound.” She said resolutely.

“Oh really? Coming from someone who had no issue going against the Jedi code and striking at her when she was focused on me doesn’t mean much. But I digress, we have talked long enough, and I think it’s high time I teach you both a nice lesson in humility and humbleness.”

Before either of them could talk the blade snapped out redirecting a strike from Asajj when she thought my guard was down. My saber was always held ready in her and Luminara's direction. Asajj was always on the move, her wide arcing slashes mixed with thrusts and piercing attacks at awkward angles not helped by her curved hilts.

She lashed out at both Luminara and me. Where Asajj was highly mobile and all about offense like a mild hurricane, Luminara was a patient fortress. Far from impenetrable, but she would make any attempt to overcome her defense’s difficult.

Her movements were minimal, every action was used to conserve stamina, combined with her body being absurdly flexible made any attempt to take her out of the fight much harder than it should have been. Not that it was impossible. But it would be close to it when fighting the two of them simultaneously.

One of the factors helping me was that they were attacking each other as much as they were attacking me. Asajj wanted to focus on me after my insults struck several nerves, but with Luminara capitalizing on my presence antagonizing Ventress the latter couldn’t afford to put everything into eliminating me.

Luminara snapped out a powerful swing that nearly made me do a double-take at her, going from a purely defensive form to one that looked more like someone swinging a double-handed sword. Despite her and Asajj’s superior speed and strength I was capable of keeping up, albeit barely, due to both my superior skill and positioning along with my footwork.

My mind raced almost like when I played some complicated fighting games. Figuring out what moves they would make and when they did something that I couldn’t predict I was positioned in such a way to ensure it didn’t lead to my defeat or death. The hallway soon had numerous glowing gouges carved into it along the floor, walls, and even the ceiling.

Asajj was getting angrier the longer the fight went on when she couldn’t take me out of the fight and any time she tried to eliminate Luminara she had to abort because I would step in. Luminara herself while capable, was inferior to Ventress.

If it wasn’t for my presence she would have long since lost this fight. She would buy time but if this remained a fair one on one Ventress would prove the victor.

“What would you know of the Jedi code? She is a threat who is working with the Separatists. Anything that the code prohibits does not apply to her.” Unduli said, blocking several probing strikes from me and the bald edgelord.

“Oh so you get to pick and choose what you use from the code… guess it must not be that important or maybe you and your buddies are not real Jedi,” I said flippantly with a cackle that even Ventress briefly smiled at but it faded when she realized who said it.

Luminara did her best to try to calm herself but I know my words had an impact. Her decent if below average form mastery began to slip. Openings that were not there before began to appear. Cracks in her armor showed and I wasn’t the only one who noticed.

Dooku’s servant didn’t hesitate to pounce on the weakness on display as we circled one another; each clash of blows was followed by numerous more. Luminara blocked one strike from Ventress before her second blade snapped out forcing her to let go of her saber unless she wanted to lose a hand.

I had tried to stop Ventress but she took advantage of the brief opening she had and used her superior speed to get just out of reach. Despite my harsh words I didn’t want Luminara to die. Ventress on the other hand I had no issues cutting her down now. Regardless of what I had heard about her redemption, if you can call it that later on in the Clone Wars show that I had stopped watching I wouldn’t hesitate when an opportunity to kill her presented itself.

She worked for Dooku, the same guy who had no issue ushering the galaxy into another galactic war which further helped Sidious’ ambition. Countless lives lost, possibly having entire species genocided from the galaxy. The show never showed much of it but I remembered some dark horse comics had no such issues delving into the darker topics that the kids’ shows would hesitate to show, such as the horrors of war from Star Wars.

Luminara leaned back in an impressive display of flexibility that would have left me groaning in pain from my back had I tried that in my old body. The blade sailed overhead and just when her hand was raised to pull her lightsaber back that was rattling on the floor a powerful kick to her gut had her fold around the blow as it drove the air from her lungs.

Luminara fell to the floor prone, looking up in concern when the red glow loomed over her. Just when the finishing blow would have landed Ventress was forced to the side when a black orb flew past impacting and exploding taking a chunk of the metal wall with it.

Luminara rolled to the side avoiding the second attempt as it melted through the floor. My blade came in trying to take her arm only for her to block it with one saber while I went back to the defensive.

“Why not help me kill the Jedi?” She said with narrowed eyes as if she couldn’t understand why I would fight both of them.

You saved Luminara from what would have been a killing blow! One gold ticket. Use now? Y/N

Hold your own against Luminara and Ventress and survive with a body that holds you back. One silver ticket. Use now? Y/N

Yet my attention briefly was taken from her and instead at the reward for saving Luminara had it not been for me would have been guaranteed to die to Ventress. That and holding my own against both of them with a less than subpar body. Yay for handicapping myself to get better rewards!

The flames had my interest at first but then my attention was instead focused on my surroundings. My awareness of my surroundings grew more detailed and expanded far more than it was originally. Combined with my haki I could focus on the various battles raging on the ship between the clones and the droids without my focus slipping on the fight.

“Because despite my grievances with her order, which hasn’t changed since the Mandalorian Wars,” Again she took note of me bringing up that old conflict as I did my best to convey how intimately familiar I was with that conflict through my voice. “I don’t blame her since she is as much a victim of the Jedi’s failures as anyone else is. I seek the source of it.”

Ventress grit her teeth, eyes narrowing at me in a growing rage that could easily be felt through my haki. “How can you defend her! She is at fault just as the rest of her order is. Many have died because of this entire conflict happening all because of her and her order.” Ventress hissed her blows getting stronger and faster the longer she ranted.

I knew Ventress couldn't care less about the people who suffered because of the Jedi and Republic. She was trying to find a means to get me to work with her.

Observation haki was struggling to help throughout the entirety of the fight, especially now. Or it was until something seemed to snap in place. Like a piece of a puzzle that wouldn’t fit into place and so it had to be reshaped and refined. I don’t think it was just my newly gained sensor ability but the fight pushing my haki to its limits and beyond what it could do forcing it to grow.

Where before haki wouldn’t help me beyond showing her emotional state now it was like a veil had been partially lifted from my eyes beyond the range increase. Before I would have relied solely on my absurd skill with a blade to get by despite my body even with the upgrades not being enough to hope to match her or Luminara in a contest of strength.

Your observation haki has upgraded under the vicious onslaught you endured! One silver ticket. Use now? Y/N

But now the course of this battle had changed. Ventress would have lost eventually but it would be difficult for me. Kind of wished that some commando droid bodies were lying around on that planet I helped the Separatists take over. I was even willing to risk Pitou making a mistake because this body was severely holding me back. But the risk of something going wrong when Pitou didn’t know what she was doing and was trying to perform the droid equivalent of brain surgery.

It’s why I didn’t take the risk of it despite the dangers I would face with a low tier body no matter the upgrades done to it. Though, those upgrades are currently keeping me alive alongside my upgraded haki.

A slash’s trajectory was like an open book to me. Dodged with a simple step and me leaning slightly to the side. A double-pronged attack from both sides aimed to bisect me. One blade was angled off course and Ventress was forced to abort when another shadow ball was formed.

Her saber moved in a desperate attempt to slash it before my hand was withdrawn, the sphere dissipated into empty air making Ventress scowl at the bluff. My hand pointed at her as she backed off her guard up while Luminara finally got her lightsaber back into her outstretched hand.

Ventress was prepared as was Luminara who looked at me with a complicated expression before she forced herself to calm down. Her neutral expression made her look emotionless.

Not even looking back down the corridor towards the clones that managed to break through the B1 droids pushing towards the ship's cells where most of the fighting was happening. Luminara had been smart enough to prioritize the B2’s otherwise the clones would have been overwhelmed. Then the sound of metal tapping on metal with me feeling the droids coming down that path as Luminara and Ventress both sensed their respective troops coming.

“Well I see we have ourselves a little stand off… let’s see who comes out on top!” A quick mental yes had me see the fruits of my labors.
