BLOG: Week Two of No Toilet Challenge
I said at the very start of this that I didn't think I'd be able to make it the full year with absolutely zero toilet uses... I was right.
This week, my wife came home from her course for a couple of days to do her driver's test (she passed!) and we discussed it. I argued the case for the challenge, she asked if I could pause it for a couple of days. So... I did. A happy wife is a happy life after all!
However, I was able to limit myself to one single use of the toilet. With some strategic diaper uses I was able to otherwise continue with the challenge by using my diaper whilst she was out on her test, and then cleaning up before she got home. It's unfortunate there was one time that was unavoidable but c'est la vie.
It has been quite a crazy week aside from that brief interruption as well. I experienced my first leak. Fortunately I was at home, and the leak wasn't too bad, but I was sitting at my desk working when I wet myself and immediately felt it running down my leg. The funny thing is, the nappy wasn't even that wet. I was apparently just at a funny angle and peed right out of the diaper at the leg band. A quick adjustment fixed it, and the pyjama bottoms went straight into the wash.
I've been training myself to get used to being in messy nappies for longer periods of time. I bought some nappy cream which I've been slapping on whenever I think the next nappy will be a messy one. So far, it's doing a great job. I was sat in a messy diaper for 6 hours a couple of days ago without issue. Very happy with that. Also, as a bonus, putting both nappy cream and baby powder on myself before closing my nappy makes me smell wonderfully baby-like!
Which takes me to the embarrassing incident this week. It happened the day before yesterday, in fact. Normally, when I wake up, it is either needing to poop, or knowing that needing to poop isn't far away. I needed to go to the shop, but felt no immediate urge to use my nappy. So I got myself dressed and ready and headed out. I had reached the corner of the street outside my flat when I felt the first feeling of pressure. Typical!
I had a decision to make. I could either go back home, do what I needed to do, and then clean up and head back out... but I am a fundamentally lazy person. I didn't want to go all the way back up the stairs to my flat and then have to start the trip again. So I decided I could hold it. The pressure, when it came was sudden, but not something I had trouble with. Well, that soon changed.
By the time I reached the store the need had grown quite a bit. I was tempted to go to the store toilets, take off the nappy and use it... but I'd already used the toilet once this week. I didn't want to do it again. Once is one thing, but if I used the toilet twice in one week then what was the point of the challenge?
So I went about my shopping and feeling increasingly uncomfortable. I was wondering if I had a stomach bug or something, because I'd gone quickly from 0 need, to having to clench. Things were getting uncomfortable and I started thinking that I wouldn't make it home before it happened. That was alright though, it was a relatively short walk home and there weren't too many people around.
I remember that almost as soon as I thought about that it became even harder to hold on. I think it was a bit like when you go to brush your teeth and suddenly need to pee, just because you're in the place you do that. As soon as my brain came to terms with the fact that the diaper was definitely being used it started asking me: "Well... why not now?"
I got to the drinks aisle at the back of the store. It's a relatively quiet section of the store. I stopped the shopping cart and crouched down, pretending to look at the label on a bottle, and pooped myself. Considering how my tummy felt, it was all surprisingly solid. As soon as I was done, I stood up and started making my way towards the self-checkouts. I was very conscious of the people around me and was trying to subtly sniff the air to see if there was a problem, it didn't seem like anyone around me noticed anything. Bear in mind, this was not a busy hour for the shop, there really weren't many people around.
I used the checkout as fast as I could and left the store. As far as I know, no one noticed what happened. I certainly hope they didn't. It did make me appreciate the nappy more though. I've used that store's toilets before and they weren't at all pleasant.
Reflecting on the week as a whole, it's remarkable how quickly the body gets used to nappies. In the first week I was already waking up with my knees underneath me, ready to push. I've woken up in the night, rolled on my back and started to pee, something that has often been difficult for me (peeing whilst lying down/in bed). I've been able to start using my nappy for number one or two without much thought or adjustment either. My brain and body trusts the nappies now.
I did get a message from someone warning me about becoming too used to nappies. I appreciate the thought, I really do, but I'm willing to keep up with what I'm doing. I understand the concern, but I have it in hand, thank you.
And now on to the stats:
Week 2:
Number of nappies: 13
Messy nappies: 5
Toilet uses: 1
Times “overexcited” in nappy: 2
Number of leaks: 2
Overall:
Number of nappies: 25
Messy nappies: 13
Toilet uses: 1
Times “overexcited” in nappy: 7
Number of leaks: 2
That's all for this week. As always, I welcome input, advice or anything else. Thanks for reading <3
