Neil is the first male born after The White Drought, and he has grown up surrounded by cameras, headlines, and endless interviews that followed him and his sister from the moment they were born. Their life is not a bad one, of course. They are famous, their family is extremely wealthy, and they live in a vast mansion far removed from ordinary concerns. 
His uncle Greif is just as famous and just as wealthy, yet he keeps a deliberate distance from the press and public attention. Greif visits often, though their conversations are usually calm and measured. Today is different. Raised voices drift from the kitchen, sharper and more intense than usual. What could they be talking about?
