As snow drifted gently through the narrow streets of the Steamlit Quarter, the city’s gears slowed to a peaceful holiday rhythm. Lanterns glowed with warm brass light, steam curled from chimneys, and the sound of distant bells echoed between timbered houses.
She walked calmly through it all, her fur-lined coat shielding her from the winter chill while clockwork charms chimed softly at her steps. Tonight was Christmas Eve, when machines rested and people remembered warmth, kindness, and wonder.
With a small smile, she adjusted the goggles on her head and lifted her lantern, its gears ticking like a heartbeat. As long as the light burned and the bells rang, the city would remain safe, and Christmas would arrive right on time.
