The lantern-lit cavern echoed with the drip of distant water as the rogue stepped into view, blue skin shimmering faintly, eyes glowing like embers daring to burn. She crouched low, tail swaying lazily behind her, and stuck out her tongue with a wicked grin.
“So that’s the great hunter they sent after me?” she teased, tapping beneath one glowing eye. “Cute.”
Your boots scuffed against the ancient stone as you advanced, though she showed no sign of worry. Instead, she leaned in, as though sharing a secret with the dark.
“You’re welcome to try,” she purred. “But I should warn you… no one’s ever caught me. Not for lack of trying.”
A sudden gust of warm cavern wind blew out half the candles, then she was gone, a blur of red hair and laughter slipping between the shadows. Her voice echoed through the arches overhead:
“Catch me if you can!”
And you realized you weren’t hunting her.
You were being invited to play.
