The Silhouette and The Forge
Chapter 43
Just when Diana was about to leave Washington D.C. to help the others in Gotham, they all agreed to go back there.
She did have to repay Silhouette for all the lives he had destroyed, among other things. She would privately admit that she wanted payback when he embarrassed her.
She had him. All she had to do was use more power. Yet he managed to temporarily overpower her not because she was going all out but the opposite. She was holding back and didn’t think he had more strength than that. The instant he caught her off guard he managed to mule kick her out of the building and scurry away like a rat in the dark.
She will amend that injustice. Or she was when another incident of someone causing chaos to get Silhouette to pay off their debts in the area. The League knew he was watching them.
Anytime they made any attempt to go back to Gotham or even use Zeta-Beams they immediately had to leave when the people ran amok while they were gone.
It was made even worse when they found out Silhouette had to have been posting bail for them. They couldn’t prove it because the money trails and the individuals responsible for doing it were all dead ends. They led nowhere.
Wonder Woman flew across the sky seeing people running and fleeing in terror but none of them were injured or hurt. Diana now considered that it might be a supervillain; she moved faster. Or she did until a large chunk of concrete from the street was sent flying right towards her.
Thinking fast she caught the car-sized chunk before crushing it. No civilians were around all having fled the now destroyed street with many buildings cracked and broken.
Three individuals stood side by side all staring at her. They looked like they wouldn’t be out of place in the old World's Fair from her time fighting in World War II.
Two men and one woman.
The woman had bone white skin, red yarn-like hair, and a freckled face with a mischievous smirk. She wore a farm girl equivalent of farmer overalls.
The shortest amongst them couldn’t be taller than four feet. He appeared similar to Killer Croc from what she remembered of the dossier on him but shrunken down and given a greaser aesthetic. Slicked back black hair perfectly shaped with gel with a black leather jacket, white t-shirt, and denim jeans.
The last one was a sharp contrast to the second one. The man was a behemoth. A giant standing far higher than most men with a body that seemed inhuman. His jaw stuck out with a pronounced jawline, black sunglasses obscuring his eyes, with a denim ensemble similar to some bikers.
“Well well well, took ya’ long ‘nough to show Wonder Gal!” The woman said with a thick country accent.
Diana was ready for a fight with these three but like she usually did nowadays after joining the Justice League she gave them a chance to give up.
Hip cocked out hand on it she tilted her head staring down at them, “Surrender to the authorities. I would rather not hurt you three.”
The greaser chuckled, his laugh was deep and oily, “Oh we ain’t the ones going to get hurt here doll face.”
Diana had to fight not to scowl at the doll face comment. Some women enjoyed such things being said to them. Diana never did.
She knew she was beautiful, but she never liked that the sole focus people had on her was because of that. Not her skills, strength, or accomplishments. But her beauty and how attractive she was.
Not that Diana didn’t have some pride in her looks, but she didn’t obsess over it like others did.
“Enough talking,” The giant said, taking a step that rattled the windows with a deep German accent that was a slow rumble, “Down on your knees and beg for mercy from Silhouette and we might spare you.”
Whatever goodwill Diana had all but dried up the instant the giant told her to get on her knees and beg.
“Hard way it is. Let’s get this over with since I don't have time for this.” Diana got into her stance about to go for the smallest and take him out.
But Diana paused when a rush of wind and a heel impacted the side of her head sending her skidding back seeing the country girl crouched low one leg stretched out.
Her red yarn-like hair swaying with the rush of wind, mouth curved upwards filled with a smug arrogance, “Aww, sugar,” Her voice was honeyed but mocking, “You’re gonna make time.”
The world snapped into streaks of color with the woman zipping around Diana, her brown leather boots skimming across concrete and stone without a sound. The air displaced by her speed felt like invisible fists impacting her armor.
Diana punched in a straight jab aiming for where she thought she would be only to miss. Suddenly the farm girl was behind her jabbing at her ribs in a machine-gun rhythm. Diana grunted from each impact.
She had been hit by far stronger opponents and despite the speed and ferocity she if anything was annoying Diana. But she knew the relentlessness was meant to keep her off balance. Diana ducked low leg swept out only to hit nothing but air.
That’s when the ground bubbled and clawed its way up Diana’s feet then legs. She pulled her legs out breaking the concrete despite how it acted like it was liquid.
Boulders shaped like fists erupted from either side slamming together where she had been. She vaulted over with a superhuman leap using far more strength than she normally did. Diana was almost thankful for such strong villains.
It wasn’t often that Diana could cut loose. She was still holding back but knowing they were sent by Silhouette made her both angry and happy oddly enough.
She would have to thank Silhouette when she met him next time with him bound in her lasso of truth… after she pummeled him a few times into the ground.
Steps that were like thunder rattled the street sending tremors up her legs made her turn in time to see two massive fists that blotted out the sky above her slam down with surprising speed.
The giant's strength was great and powerful-- Diana felt the force shake her insides and rattled her bones. Brought down to a knee she strained to keep him from crushing her into the ground.
The force of the blow cratered the ground beneath them. He cocked back a fist which Diana now exerting more strength than she had in a long time met the punch with one of her own.
A rush of air dispersed from the two matching blows shattered glass across three blocks with the buildings shaking and rattling with cars flying with alarms blaring with some going into buildings.
The giant and Diana slid back from the force of their blows. Both skid to a stop with the two charging back at one another. His thunderous steps crack the road beneath him and Diana’s lighter and deceptively powerful strides rush to meet one another.
Just when Diana was about to take advantage of her superior speed the ground around her formed a wall of spears similar to castle walls to her sides. A rush of air was all the sign she got when the country girl's hands vibrating like chainsaws appeared to her side.
Diana, better prepared this time, moved far faster than the woman had expected when she managed to evade several of her strikes. Good thing when she noted how each strike that missed had hit parts of the environment, her fingers sinking into the concrete and easily cutting it to shreds. One particular hit aimed for her throat was stopped when her hand grabbed her wrist.
“What?! How in tarnation did you keep up?” She exclaimed in surprise.
Diana’s smile made her enemy grit her teeth, eyes narrowed, “I don’t need to move as fast as you. I just need to be capable of reacting to you and you're easy to predict.”
Diana’s words were as sharp as any when dissecting her opponent’s flaws and throwing them in her face when she believed they would defeat her. As if Diana would lose to these three.
Diana with a powerful kick with her heel smacking the woman across her face sent her flying into a building with the crumbling sound of a wall breaking with the giant rushing towards her. A fist slammed down where she had been a moment ago.
The ground quaked and rattled from the force of the blow. Diana ran along the length of the giant's arm with an uppercut that sent the man flying several meters into the air before slamming back down further destroying what was left of the street.
The street itself came to life rising up and blocking her from continuing the attack on the giant who had been getting back up.
A tsunami of rock and concrete rushed towards her. She tried to fly up and over it only to be temporarily halted when tentacles of rock and dirt lashed out grabbing hold of her legs and waist. She pried herself loose but it was enough for the wave of debris to slam into her and submerge her under it all.
“Hah! 1 and 3 you suck! I managed to get her all on my own.” Android 2 boasted cockily to his siblings.
“Don’t get a big head Number 2.” 3 tells him dusting himself off walking over.
Rolling his jaw ensuring no lasting damage had been done from that uppercut. Feeling something loose he spits it out seeing what was a metal tooth she had knocked loose.
The sound of groaning metal had them both look at the building with Android 1 coming out half her face chipped showing the metal underneath.
“Where is that city hussy?! I hav’ ta’ repay her for giving me this makeover.” She gestured coldly at her damaged face. Part of it was dented making her brothers look at one another then her.
Before either could answer her a rumble like an earthquake had them look down at their feet with the ground forming cracks. Android 2 not taking any chances had a nearby concrete and rock swarm him creating a spiked armor with his power further increasing the durability of the armor.
Hands outstretched ready to exert more force to keep Wonder Woman contained. “Guess she has some fight left in her. Let me--”
Whatever he was about to say he never got the chance when a fist flew out of the ground with a vicious punch cracking and shattering his armor around his chest. He skidded like a rock across water before crashing into and through a car at the end of the street.
Diana was now annoyed. They charged at her, the now dented head of the country bot circling her peppering her with numerous blows. She had changed up her attacks now using both simple kicks and jabs intermixed with claw-like slashes when her hands would begin to vibrate.
“Thanks for the dent in my head! How about I carve some nice new scars into your face?!” She snarled.
“Thanks for the offer but you're about to miss your flight,” Diana said, her regular punches not bothering her. It was like a swarm of mosquitoes, annoying but far from dangerous.
A powerful punch into the ground sent an earthquake across D.C. but it accomplished exactly what Diana needed it to.
The machine was knocked off the ground, its expression showing surprise then terror once she realized what Diana had done. She couldn’t use her speed when she was off the ground.
Fist impacting her torso sending her further into the air. “Number 3 save me!” She wailed before another punch ripped through her body with her upper torso flying off several blocks away followed by her legs toppling off to the side.
“Number 1 you will be avenged.” The behemoth said with that thick German accent. But instead of it being below her Diana looked up eyes wide when she realized she was in his shadow.
His giant form hit Diana with the two of them crashing back down into the ground like a meteor. A shockwave knocked several of the buildings around them over toppling them to the ground like stacks of dominoes.
A second later a punch into the man’s head sent him sliding back with Diana charging right into his chest further pushing him back. But he stopped the momentum with great effort and was about to grab Diana to perform a suplex but she backflipped in time while delivering a kick that sent him tumbling back.
Still stunned from the attack Diana followed it up with a drop kick with both heels meeting the side of his head. His gigantic form flew back at Mach speeds carving trenches through the ground from the force of the blow.
“Alright lady no one messes with the hai-- Agh!” Android 2 was saying before he shouted in pain when Android 3 slammed into him when he came back through the hole he had made.
The two androids with 2 getting the worst of it with him pinned to 3’s back flying through four more buildings before getting crushed under 3’s body on a nearby street.
The giant rose back up after a moment body not as responsive having taken significant damage from Wonder Woman’s attack. He glanced down to see that his brother was still operational but severely damaged.
“Number 2 get up now we must finish this.” 3 said with the utmost importance.
“I-I-I k-k-nnn-ow you lum—ox.” Android 2 said his voice modulator was glitching out stuttering with each attempt to speak or prolonging the words.
Android 2’s clothes were rags now. His outer skin is now shredded showing the wires and metal under it. His movements were slow and jerky, each motion far too slow showing significant damage had been sustained.
Diana flew over the building coming in hot pursuit. 3 slammed his arm down but Wonder Woman flew around it like a serpent coiling across his arm before a swift punch that carried more power than any before it sent the giant tumbling end over end before crashing back-first into a building.
2 raised both hands, the earth around him shifting to his will but before he could attack Wonder Woman with a flick of her foot knocked a manhole cover into the air. 3 watched in horror, rushed to help his brother.
The road rose up into a wall with the earth shaping around him like a cocoon. But it was too late. Mid flip the manhole was gripped in her hand followed by a quick spin and toss sending it flying like a discus straight at him.
His smile was arrogant believing the wall would protect him. But the improvised weapon moved faster than he had expected. The rising wall of cement clipped it while rising up but it flew true. His armor would take the hit and he would be fine was his last thought before it impacted and continued past him firmly embedded several feet into a nearby wall.
His head rolled off his body with it not far behind like a puppet that just had its strings cut he fell to the ground. “Whooooaa…” Android 2 said before he shut down for good.
“Number 2 you shall be avenged.” Android three said solemnly charging right for Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman evaded his punches that were like thunderbolts. Each hit caused earthquakes sending vibrations into Diana’s bones. But despite his size and strength he was faster than he appeared.
But for Diana, he was a simple opponent yet one she enjoyed going against. Especially when she knew the three were machines. She hadn’t cut loose like this since World War II.
Side-stepping an easily telegraphed punch and punished the machine with a series of punches right into the giant's gut making him grunt from each blow while stumbling back. The force behind each punch grew and grew when she realized he could take far more punishment.
He tried to counter with wide sweeping lunges or punches that Wonder Woman continued to evade. That was until one underhanded punch swung into her braced arms faster than any other attack had until now.
The blow made Wonder Woman grit her teeth flying back dozens of meters heels digging trenches into the ground. The giant rumbled forward. Like a charging bull Wonder Woman’s lasso now in hand she side-stepped a shoulder charge with her lasso now wrapped around his arm and torso.
A sharp tug stopped his momentum before she pulled him into the air over her head. The ground caved under the force of the slam. Wonder Woman was already moving, landing on the oversized machine whose glasses were shattered showing emotionless eyes staring into her own.
A hand reached up to grab her only to get shattered and broken from a vicious kick. Blood that wasn’t his but the fuel that helped make him so strong splattered both of them and their surroundings. Undeterred, his sole remaining fist was stopped and ripped off with a spray of Re’em blood and wires before it was unceremoniously tossed to the side.
Wonder Woman began wailing into the machine's head. After a few seconds of this brutal display, his head was heavily dented looking like a crumpled tin can with metal showing under the artificial skin. Each breath she took was deep and ferocious, like a Grizzly going in for the kill. The chemical or whatever it was covered her as Android 3 gave his final words.
“I’ll be baaaaack…” He said his voice distorted before falling silent for the final time.
Diana stepped off and floated out of the crater. Her hair was unkempt, mind reeling after that fight because it reminded her of darker years when she saw both the best and the worst humanity could do, her breathing settled down, and she surveyed the damage seeing how Washington had taken its fair share of damage from their clash.
A startled gasp made Diana look over to see a woman with a few other people pointing at her with horrified expressions. Looking around before she realized what they were looking at. Wonder Woman looked down to see that she was covered in whatever the fluid was in that machine.
…
Sitting back enjoying a meal while watching the news of Wonder Woman being slammed by the media for “killing” someone. Androids 1and 2 were acknowledged as machines. But 3 they believed to be alive. Courtesy of the blood was used to help augment his already impressive strength.
“How could one of the Justice League's founding members kill someone in cold blood?” A man in a suit asked the question aloud to the audience.
“They could do it easily.” A smooth voice said calmly. A man with sharp intelligent eyes in an expensive suit sat beside him. “I have always advocated for the League to have more restrictions placed on it. After this incident, hopefully the UN will realize the necessity for more strict methods of keeping them under control.”
Lex Luthor said to both the man speaking with him since he was a guest on the show and the many people watching the interview.
It hadn’t even been a full day before the news was running wild with the story. The funny thing about all of this-- I didn’t plan for this. I didn't even expect it to be honest.
Just intended to send the three androids to fight her to gather data and more information to build better and stronger androids and machines in general. They were never meant to win or kill her. The plan was to use them to gather more data since the Justice League would be useful to help improve upon the android's capabilities and designs.
Already the data gathered gave me plenty of ideas on how to improve upon them. It was all going to be used to create an army of machines to handle Darkseid and other massive threats seeking to conquer or destroy the Earth.
Instead, the media and people were losing their collective minds over Wonder Woman covered in Re’em blood thinking she killed a person that she thought was a machine like the others. Which he was…
I mean it could have been a fluid or chemical that looked like blood but nope everyone assumed it was blood. Hiding a wince at getting Wonder Woman and the League in trouble over this. Letting out a tired sigh before I got up ready for my date with Pam.
Hair combed neatly, a simple rock band shirt with jeans was all I wore not needing anything extravagant. Walking out to my newly purchased car which started up with a loud but healthy roar. It wasn’t anything eye-catching or fast but good enough to get from point A to B.
I used the money acquired from a few games that were sold as indie games online through my developer business. Advertising had been used to hype up the release of Silent Hill 2 both on TV and the internet.
Currently expecting a windfall of money to come my way with the advertising and online forums hyping up the sequel. Already a lot of people spoke quite highly of the first one enough that the high praises and talks about it have not died down but grown over time.
Taking the car and driving to where Pam lived which happened to be an apartment complex. Stopping near the curb when I saw her rushing out of a door when she spotted me in my car.
Getting out and opening the car door for her which she paused for a moment. She quickly pecked me on the cheek, smiling at me.
“Thank you, Daniel. That was sweet.” She got in the car after that and we were on our way.
I had to fight to keep my eyes on the road with what Pam was wearing. It was nothing scandalous yet it made her all the more attractive to me. A simple green shirt that hugged her body quite well, shorts that were almost too short. Her hair straightened out looking like long blood blood-red rivers going down her back and shoulders.
Her glasses were gone with just her emerald green eyes looking at me mischievously like she knew what she was doing to me. Shaking my head, chuckling, turning on the radio almost souring the mood when the station talked about Wonder Woman only to quickly change to a slow rock song.
We stayed silent for a moment until Pamela broke the silence. “Do you think she did what everyone is saying she did?”
My smile grew an edge at that innocent question. “No. Not for a second do I believe she killed a living person.”
Pamela fidgeted for a moment looking down at the floor before looking over at me. “Sorry for ruining the mood…”
I briefly give her a reassuring smile, my good mood coming back. “Don’t apologize. You’re fine Pam and you didn’t ruin it.”
Pam went quiet until she decided to bring the topic back up. “So then do you think that man was another robot like the others?”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t he be? Did you see how tall and massive he was? You would think a guy like that would be easily recognizable in any database if he were a person. It’s just the media smelling blood in the water.”
“Right. It just caught me off guard how it’s all over the place. Every news station is talking about it. It’s like everything she did for the world has been forgotten when that happened.” She didn’t notice my grip on the steering wheel tighten.
Restraining myself before I broke the wheel relaxing after a quiet exhale through my nostrils. My thoughts drifted to accidentally screwing over Wonder Woman. Sure they were supposed to rough her up but not incriminate her nor turn the public against her.
This was going to come back to haunt me. I just know it is. She had to have a chip on her shoulder after what I did when we last fought, but now it’s going to be so much worse.
She will hold a grudge. I know I would.
We drifted away from the Wonder Woman subject to instead talk about work with Kirk and projects Pam wanted to do. Before we knew it the mood was happier as we neared the park. Or at least a partially finished park.
Plenty of plants greeted us once we passed the gate I had the key to. Pam gave me a questioning look with her head tilted. My smile grew at how she looked like a puppy trying to figure something out.
“Your friend let you have a key?” She asked me, sounding skeptical.
“Well, it helps that I am one of his investors who helped fund this park.” I nonchalantly say as the gate groans open as I gesture for her to go on ahead, “Ladies first and beauty before age.”
She smiled, chuckling then shaking her head stepped inside. Her expression shifts away from amusement to wonder and awe. Numerous flowers of various kinds, some common, others rare. None of them were endangered but a few were close. This place was going to be a place for them to grow more and ensure they don’t get put on the endangered species list.
Pam was rooted in her spot before walking over muttering to herself excitedly leaning over and smelling the various flowers. The smell alone made this place much better than most of Gotham. It’s part of the reason I chose this place for the park.
The various smog and pollution from the city that permeated Gotham had left this place mostly untouched. Some areas were like that, small sanctuaries where nature could survive. An oasis like this and the others I wanted to preserve.
Pam moved from plant to plant her nervousness she had was gone, replaced by a calm peace. She was happy, almost like she was right at home in the park.
If it wasn’t for my meta knowledge on knowing who she could become I would be more surprised by how much she enjoyed nature-- particularly plants.
My hand gently grabbed Pam’s before tugging her along. “Come on Pam, this is just the beginning, we still have the rest to check out.”
She at first wanted to stay here but at the mention of there being more she followed me. At first, we just held each other's hands wandering the park with cobblestone pathways with a few benches set up. The benches were scarce and some of the walkways were not finished.
Yet despite the unfinished nature of the park it didn’t take away from the beauty of it all. We walked past some moon flowers that were blooming under the full moon tonight.
After being here over an hour barely a word had been exchanged between the two of us yet we had the time of our lives. Exploring the entirety of the park occasionally talking about the flowers.
Pamela was so caught up in all of it that she was so distracted that she didn’t ask how I got the money to invest in the park. Or how I got the car.
We soon reached the last part of the park we hadn’t gone to yet. After all, you always save the best for last.
“Come on Pam, the last section of the park I wanted you to see is just over here,” I told her excitedly, looking forward to what was to come.
We moved up a hill with bushes of all kinds and various flowers arranged around the area. We reached the crest with a lone tree standing over it with the moonlight pouring through the branches.
The tree branches and the various flowers shifted moving with the wind. Pamela was in awe at the beautiful sight with the backdrop of the various Gotham City lights we could see from the small hill.
I walked towards the blanket set on the ground with a basket next to it that Pam had only now noticed.
“Daniel you shouldn’t have…” She said breathlessly. It was an amazing sight, something you would expect out of a big-budget romantic movie.
Pamela sat down with me as I pulled out various things from the basket. Two sub sandwiches followed by a bottle of wine.
“Daniel, do you think we should be drinking out here? We have to be at the lab tomorrow.” Pamela told me, sounding conflicted.
“It's time to celebrate Pam. Live it up a little, we've got our tests coming up and we can start doing the things we wanted to do. Let’s enjoy this night while it lasts.”
My good mood seemed contagious since she smiled softly sitting down beside me taking the offered sandwich with a glass of wine poured into it. The wine wasn’t anything super expensive but it was the kind that tasted good while on a budget.
She tipped the glass back enjoying the wine as did I. The night went on with both of us sharing fun stories of our childhoods.
Then it finally happened. “Look Pam, here comes the best part,” I said, holding my hand in the air with her looking intently but not seeing anything.
“What are you talking about? I don’t see anything…” She trailed off finally seeing it.
Tiny yellow flashes in the air. They appeared sporadically yet made the night even better. Many fireflies lit up the area around us. Pam watched entranced by the sight as she leaned into my side and pressed against my chest.
“Thank you, Daniel. For showing me this. No one has ever done something like this for me before.” She was genuine and sounded grateful to even be allowed here to witness this.
“It was my pleasure.” I quietly said hand brushing her side while the other cupped her chin gently making her look up at me.
She was wide-eyed when my face closed the distance. I kissed her with her just frozen like a statue before she melted into it, our tongues briefly dancing for a moment together.
The rest of the park faded into the background with my attention solely focused on Pamela Isley as I wince trying to ignore the things my power had just granted me. Thankfully Pam was too caught up in the moment to notice.

Perks Gained: -Simulation Room (World Seed) (300CP)
One important device any spaceship captain should have in their arsenal, or any militaristic leader at all, for that matter, is a simulation room. With them, it is possible to train against enemy forces all day long in a nigh-infinite amount of configurations and situations, an invaluable preparation for whenever the real thing happens, at least as long as you have accumulated enough data of what it is you need to fight and analyzed their strengths and weaknesses. But it is exactly this problem that the simulation room you have in your possession has solved. As long as you have experienced something personally, you simply need to link your mind with the simulation device, and it will quickly and accurately extrapolate from that information and manage to create a simulation of it that is at least 99.9% accurate, even if you only looked at an enemy fleet and never actually saw its combat capabilities, only growing more accurate as you gain more information. Any amount of people can use this room, its dimensions expanding and contracting as needed and new spots popping up in the same way, and this extrapolation can be used on anyone connecting their mind to it. By default, this is a warehouse attachment, but you can place it wherever you want in the real world.
-Necronium Depletion (GURPS Technomancer) (600CP)
When magic was introduced to the world, it seemed like an absolute advantage for those who had it over those who didn't. Fortunately, there was a magic bullet - or more accurately, an anti magic bullet. You've mastered the ability to create Depleted Necronium, a special metal that can utterly negate the effects of magic, treating it as nonexistent whenever it would matter. A DN bullet would ignore a Mage's bullet ward, while a DN sword would treat the flesh of a Mage who'd turned into air as, well, flesh instead of harmlessly slicing through air. Interestingly, your particular formula extends to all supernatural effects.
