The Silhouette and The Forge
Chapter 41
“What?” Hal Jordan asked, disbelief bleeding into his voice. “You're bluffing. We have you right where we want you and you're desperate.”
Hal Jordan said, trying to reassure himself more than he was the others. The others don’t look too thrilled with Superman still looking in the direction of Metropolis never once taking his eyes off the direction that city is in.
It's kind of scary knowing he can see it even when it's so far away, watching the citizens commit so many crimes from here.
“He’s not,” Superman said with the utmost seriousness.
The others looked worried now, glancing at one another. Their earpieces or whatever they use for communication had them not fully focused on me but on what was being told to them. I did not attempt to move from this spot despite wanting to so badly.
It’s like being a rat cornered by a cat seeing the means to escape but can’t make any sudden movements unless it wants to end up as dinner.
But unlike a rat, I am far from helpless. Having a few other cards up my sleeve in case they decided to stick around to try to apprehend me tended to give one plenty of confidence.
Stepping forward under their intense gazes. Each of them looked far from happy with whatever they were hearing on their comlinks.
“Now I would strongly recommend you all leave Gotham to go help quell the unruly criminals in your cities. I mean if you take too long who knows how much damage will be done and how many will be hurt.”
“Yes, you are right. Which is why we will arrest you right now.” Wonder Woman said, stepping forward lasso in hand.
She paused guard, taking me far more seriously than she had before when a single finger was raised in objection.
“That would be a bad idea. You might be able to capture me in the end but it would take far too long with those poor cities burned to the ground by the time you got back.” Wagging the finger at each of them like an adult lecturing a group of unruly children.
“Might? We are.” She along with the others approached me with Green Lantern staying back ready to act as support.
Or they were when Superman stopped looking up around them sensing what had surrounded them. His jaw firmly set, he saw what had to have been well over a hundred men in black looking at them.
The others paused then noticed the army that had managed to get the drop on them. “Now just in case you think you can finish this quickly, here is just a little extra.”
The unseen signal had drones the size of pigeons come out of the sky with beams of red lasers washing over the gathered heroes who were ready to attack but stopped seeing it wasn’t doing anything to most of them.
“Was this supposed to do something?” Hal asked with a small smile like he didn’t know if he should be taking me seriously.
Nodding my head sagely at the fool. “Yes it was and it is.” Gesturing to Superman who looked uncomfortable, his expression a grimace.
“Superman, care to join us for an experiment to see how long it takes for the red sun beams to fully deplete you? Or would you rather use what energy you have left to go save Metropolis? The clock is ticking so you'd best make your decision soon.”
Superman gave me a long hard stare. For a moment I believed he was willing to continue this fight but he flew away from me. Probably realized how much would be pitted against them combined with the damage being done to each city they couldn’t do both with the time they had to work with.
Not helped by his desire to help and save those in need. Get the criminal or save someone who’s in trouble? He would go for the person every time. I didn’t hold it against him. It’s commendable that he would do such good deeds.
“We can’t stay here. Silhouette this is not over and we will be back to bring you to justice.” He said with such conviction I didn’t doubt for a second that he meant every word of it.
“Smartest decision you made in your life. Now for the rest of you,” I said walking closer to Wonder Woman who was looking worse for wear despite no visible injuries beyond a bruise on her forearm and cheek, “Get the hell out of Gotham.”
She tensed up with me tilting my head at her. “Any of you so much as spit in the direction of this city there will be consequences. Am I understood?”
She gritted her teeth, knuckles tightly clenched around her lasso that she looked more than ready to use on me. The others weren’t much better. Flash himself managed to join them hopping on one leg frowning at me.
She doesn’t nod or say a word before flying up into the air joining Superman far above the highest skyscrapers with the others following shortly after. Green Lantern himself looked around like he was willing to fight.
My body was tense, ready to throw everything I had at him. All of my forces that had been gathered were ready to do everything they could to slow him down. To my relief, he created a round construct with his ring that Flash sat on before flying away.
Watching them leave I stood there for a few seconds longer in case they wanted to do a sucker punch. Seeing no foul play I head for the sewer before having the drones and hunters stand down but remain close by in case they make a move.
Moving across the maze of sewer tunnels seeing the filth that was down here would have made even a hardened man throw his guts up. Thankfully the gas mask wasn’t just for looks helping filter out what must be a horrible smell in these tunnels.
Stopping near a wall like any other in the sewer thankful for having the engineers wander these tunnels to manipulate the materials in some to be denser to avoid Superman’s x-ray vision.
What good it did do. Pushing against a part of the wall that gave way before it slid open silently.
Stepping in quickly closing it behind me not wanting the smell or the filth to get into the spacious room. The room was filled with all kinds of containers holding supplies for equipment like stimpacks, potions in vials for quick usage, and even trap discs.
It was one of many safehouses established early on by the engineers for me when my power had gifted Light to me. Stepping over to a particular part of the floor stepping on a few parts like I was having a game of Dance Dance Revolution.
Stepping on each section of the floor dropping lower than the rest of the floor with a pattern to it before the various traps were disengaged.
Walking over to a metal surgery table in the center of the room with multiple robotic arms in the ceiling coming to life.
Piece by piece they take apart the suit on me. Lying down on the table it rose at an angle with a screen to the side showing me the damage done to the body. Both arms had been given minor fractures but they were fully healed now.
Knowing what needed to be done next my finger pressed against a part of the screen. Lying back on the table getting comfortable with a part of the table where my head rested, a hole formed letting the back of my head through.
An appendage from a machine with tendrils parted the hair showing a small metal port. Seeing the prompt in the bottom right of my vision focusing on it my perspective changed.
One moment staring up at the dull gray of the safe house. Next, I am looking up at Heli’s cute eel-like face looking down at me.
“Gather up the data from the test run Heli. Also, I need a status report on the losses suffered from the Justice League running amok.” I get down to business knowing that this can’t be put off.
Heli nodded squealing out going through the motions of getting me disconnected to the machine they had built for me to puppet a body double using parts of my DNA mixed into it looking like William of Solutions Inc.
Having the foresight to realize you don’t want to be in danger yourself when facing down a team of heroes composed of a self-proclaimed demigod, an alien powered by the sun who could all but conquer the Earth, a guy whose whole thing is being absurdly fast, and many more after that.
Even then it was still too close for my liking. I would rather not risk William being outed as Silhouette just yet. That alias still had a part to play.
Now it wouldn’t be a complete loss to have Gotham find out about that connection but it would be annoying. Walking out of the workshop where the machine had been set up one of the Alphas showed me the damage done.
Numerous manufacturing plants were completely totaled. The defenses scrapped with the merchandise all but destroyed beyond a few that hadn’t been found. The Flash was the main one behind that followed by Green Lantern.
They had footage of Superman looking around at different locations that had merchandise stored in his field of view. With the Batcomputer's knowledge of League members’ strengths and weaknesses, it helped the engineers figure out what was happening rather quickly.
The engineers when setting up the housing facilities along with manufacturing altered the materials in the pathways that led to those areas. Making them denser in an effort to keep Superman from seeing what was in there.
We miscalculated. Our collective guess was that Superman was making guesses on areas where he couldn’t see through the material. Potentially working with others on knowing what should be made with lead and what shouldn’t.
The latter was up in the air but the former I believed was more likely. Making guesses while relaying information to Flash and Green Lantern.
I found myself thankful that a clash between us didn’t happen. I would likely lose but my reservation was because of how much collateral damage would happen in Gotham.
Plus who knows how many innocent people would get caught up in the conflict. One thing did come out of this that worked out.
The numerous gangs besides my Alliance had been heavily reduced. Not from the Court but from the League cracking down on them.
“This is Vicky Vale reporting to you live near Gotham PD. As you can see numerous gang members of different affiliations have been subdued by the Justice League appearing in Gotham. This has happened not long after the various gangs in Gotham had attacked the Court of Owls itself.”
She gestured to far too many criminals from street thugs to well-dressed men in suits. So many of them that it could not have been healthy for the city to have this many criminals in one location. It was almost like a refugee camp with how many there were.
Guess some of them didn’t get the memo when the Court was our mutual enemy.
“This isn’t over! This city will one day be free of you government dogs. I haven’t forgotten about you Silhouette! We will avenge those wronged by--”
“Shut up already you stupid wannabe hippy. You’re giving me a worse headache than the original hippies…” An older member of the Penguins gang said, sounding annoyed with Anarky sending him and his followers plenty of glares.
The cop near him shoved Anarky harder than necessary into the police station, looking annoyed himself.
Eating my breakfast burrito while trying not to choke on it laughing at Anarky getting called a hippy by the older man.
The little turd thought he could be slick and get one over on me when trying to have several members of the Court who were useful killed in the safer tunnels.
“Commissioner Gordon!” She yelled out rushing through several police officers who tried to grab her only for her to evade all of them like a pro football player. The cameraman and even Vicky don’t fail to notice what I think was Samantha Vanaver being forced along by Detective Bullock.
Hard to tell beyond the shaggy blond hair peaking out from a hunched-over hooded figure wearing an oversized coat way bigger than them with their hands cuffed behind their back.
Bullock rolled his eyes scoffing looking up at the sky like this was some punishment sent by the heavens for past crimes they had committed. Gordon for his part like Bullock looked like he just had the longest roughest night of his life and was ready for this day to be over. His clothes were disheveled, and dark bags hung under his eyes.
Cuts and bruises on their bodies to show they had been in one hell of a fight. The same could be said for every cop in Gotham.
“Hrrr-- get off of me, the people have a right to know!” Vicky growled out when a few cops finally managed to restrain her.
“It’s been a long night Vicky. I think you should wait like all the other vultures on this story for now. To the rest of Gotham rest easy now that the Court of Owls is no more.” Gordon said to Vicky then turned to the camera.
Not long after that, the camera feed was stopped before the anchors in the newsroom had smiles and snickered trying not to laugh at Vicky getting handled by the police.
Smiling to myself I messaged Jaina.
You alright?
Oh, thank god I had believed the League had gotten you.
I had it handled.
Right…
Sorry for worrying you.
You don’t have to apologize for anything. I’m just glad it’s over and the Court can be directed in a more productive direction. I can’t thank you enough.
You can thank me by using it to help the people and the city. Turn this place into something special. Also impressive work you did to Samantha.
It was far more satisfying than you would imagine. Even managed to knock a tooth out.
Lol
I need to rest now after all of that but if you need me don’t hesitate to call.
I will. Maybe we can go out sometime? I owe you at least that much.
It’s a date.
Just as the last text was sent to her my window slid open with Jade coming in quietly. Quiet enough that most people, even well-trained ones wouldn’t have noticed her.
“Enjoy your night out?” I asked, finishing off my burrito.
“Enjoying it is an understatement.” She said with a big happy smile. Probably the happiest I had ever seen her. “Batman was impressed with me. I actually got to fight alongside Batman and got to meet Wonder Woman!”
She gushed going into detail explaining things so quickly I almost mistook her for someone who had adhd. How she had helped Batman who found several purifiers I hadn’t been aware were around. Hiding my unease at not knowing they had those hidden from me and the big oversight on my part.
If Samantha managed to sneak in many superior talons to the standard ones with weapons that Klarion or someone had enhanced for them then why couldn’t she do the same with the purifiers?
“Then we came across Jaina Hudson fighting Samantha Vanaver who was the leader of the Court. She beat the crap out of her too! Her face may as well have been a mass of discolored lumps…” Jade's excitement had dimmed when she seemed to remember something.
“That’s when we learned something horrible.” She said solemnly her happiness dried up like a puddle of water in a desert, replaced by a sad aura that soured the mood.
Now I wanted to know since getting back from controlling that puppet body I didn’t have time to see what had happened on Jade’s end through her suit's sensors beyond a cursory glance of her vitals being fine.
“What happened?” I gently asked, trying to get her to open up to me. Even slowing down on leaving for the clinic to have a heart-to-heart with my first friend I had made in this world.
“Jaina tried to kill her when we showed up. Samantha had killed her parents when they were younger according to Jaina.” Jade said after a long moment.
My mind screeched to a halt. Freezing on the spot before making my way over to Jade who had found herself on the couch, knees tucked into her chest.
“That’s horrible. Are you going to be alright?” I asked her genuinely concerned since Jade had never acted like this before.
Jade shook her head scoffing, “Of course it’s terrible. It wouldn’t be Gotham if it wasn’t.” She said before falling silent watching the TV.
“You didn’t answer my question,” I told her, trying to get her to open up.
She stared a little longer at the news station listing off everything that had happened, even thanking the Justice League for finally stepping in to help Gotham but admonishing them for taking so long to finally do so.
“...I will be after some rest and finally leaving this city behind. I’m going to be leaving with my sister in about two weeks. It would be sooner but with everything that happened and the damage done to the city leaving will be difficult. I… would like you to be there to send us off and to meet Artemis.”
“I would be honored, Jade. If you want you can stay in my apartment to rest and goof around. I unfortunately can’t stay. I need to get to the clinic to help with the injured after what happened last night.” I told her, moving around gathering my things.
“I’m surprised Silhouette didn’t have you helping in the fight.” I stopped and looked at her continuing, “You helped a lot in Wayne Tower. Why not have you on the streets with us?”
Picking up a bag full of supplies with ointments and homemade remedies I think over my response despite knowing what I am going to say to her.
“Because I chose not to. Despite what you might think, Silhouette doesn’t own me. I made that abundantly clear from the beginning when they supported me. I went to Wayne Tower in hopes of stopping a tragedy across the city. I managed to help stop them from getting one of them. The rest I figured you and Batman had handled.”
Jade's indifferent mask cracked when a small smile blossomed. Just took a little acknowledgment to achieve.
“Plus I am better at helping people who are hurt. If you need me don’t hesitate to call and please lock up when you leave.” I said, waving over my shoulder.
Despite the damage done to the city life went on like usual. It was rather shocking. People are being more patient than usual without honking their horns at one another in the streets like they normally would.
They were all rather patient but I chalked that up to them being understanding and in a better mood knowing the Court is ‘dead’.
Construction crews were working tirelessly trying to get rubble cleaned up across the city. The streets were getting fixed along with plumbing and electricity. Numerous stations were handing out water to people who didn’t have access to running water.
After Samantha was revealed to be the leader of the Court with the water purifier she was going to use to poison the city, the mayor had enough sense to realize the severity of the situation.
Guy was a corrupt piece of crap but even then he realized it’s time to pull up his big boy pants and get to work. Or in this case, get help from people like Bruce Wayne to help organize relief efforts.
A good chunk of the reconstruction effort was given to my company with a few others acting as competitors. Solution Inc. had managed to make a windfall proving it was reliable, does good quality work, and won’t twist anyone’s arm behind their back on what was agreed upon.
Several of the members of the Court had added their wealth to the pile to get everything running again with Jaina already setting plans into motion to help the city.
Many of the little people jumped to attention when Jaina stepped in. It was something that too many people forgot the value of both in this life and my old one. Reputation is more important than money.
I have a quality product or service and don’t try to screw the customer over. They know this and if hard times hit they would be willing to give me a chance simply because of that reputation. If I started screwing them over for short-term gain then in the long run no one would want to do business with me when they had better alternatives.
Which is why evil corporations rig things so they are the sole provider of something so you have no choice but to go to them.
It’s why the people love Jaina. She had proven she cared while maintaining a good reputation much like Bruce.
Looking off in the distance beyond the sound of heavy machinery working to fix the damage where a massive gap of nothing existed in Gotham. The hole Klarion had made.
Having long since shut the water off from those specific pipes that Klarion had erased with many crews working with cranes trying to fix the damage in the hole.
Looking proud at my workers doing their utmost with looks of determination on their faces I walked my way across Gotham with several of my patients recognizing me thankful I was alive.
Telling them to let anyone who needed help to come to the clinic. A few even started following me who needed assistance. They were mostly light injuries with the worst being broken limbs.
Nearing my clinic I saw one hell of a line leading up to it with various people from all walks of life in Gotham. Even some members of the Alliance kept the peace ensuring no one did anything crazy.
They had been around several corners on the streets not peddling drugs or anything of the sort. Merely keeping an eye on things collaborating with the Gotham PD. Some had even volunteered to help with rescue efforts and reconstruction.
Many of them perked up seeing me walking with a large group following me like I was the pied piper. Opening the door many patients entered with me swiftly getting to work with everyone cracking some jokes here and there.
The mood was lighthearted, and everyone was having a good time with one another. It was like a dark storm had come and gone with us all happy after the darkness had passed seeing the light at the end of it.
Now for us to rebuild and make this city into a gleaming gem in the world. Maybe not quite like Metropolis or Central City but a dark shining jewel that has its own allure from the darkness around it. Not evil or bad. Merely… different.
With that, I focused all my efforts on the clinic after contacting Kirk and Pam. Letting Kirk know I am going to be late to the university but it was fine.
Pamela was relieved to hear I was safe after the madness that had happened last night.
…
“We should have apprehended him when we had the chance.” Wonder Woman said, arms crossed looking sour at having let Silhouette go. He was right in front of them and they had him right where they wanted him.
“Maybe. But with the damage being done to various cities we couldn’t risk wasting time on him when lives were at stake.” Superman said, always the voice of compassion and reason.
“Silhouette played us,” Flash said aloud muttering to himself but the others heard him all the same looking around at the unimpressed looks directed at him. “What? No one was hurt and the offenders were random law-abiding citizens who were paid to do those acts of vandalism. We had him and we let him get away.”
To that Batman simply pressed a button. A hologram sprang up showing a video recording for all to see.
“Woohoo fuck yeah! Silhouette you the man! No more college debt and all my bills paid off!!!” A man in his early twenties rode a motorcycle tossing bricks out of a bag hanging from his side breaking windows and just disrupting daily life for other people.
Another image sprang up of numerous women with piercings and occult tattoos with crowbars, baseball bats, and golf clubs smashing up equipment inside an insurance company.
“This is for putting my mother into debt when you did nothing to fix our house!” One screamed out with office workers protesting but kept their distance when a bat was held at them making them back away.
The women went to town destroying so much equipment that the insurance company couldn’t do any business.
“All the debt was cleared by a supervillain. Not a hero. Not the government or politicians. A villain.” One of them spat in hate at such irony.
More and more holograms popped up showing numerous displays of desperate people being given a lifeline and all they had to do was cause chaos on a mass scale anyway they wanted beyond seemingly one common trend all of the videos shared. Don’t hurt anyone.
Before many of the heroes would have agreed with Flash but many now found themselves hesitant to fully agree. Some of them had heard what happened but didn’t realize the scale or how far it went.
It was a distraction forcing them all back to their cities and out of Gotham. One that worked spectacularly with them wary of having this happen again or spread to the cities that were spared from this chaos.
No one was hurt to the group's relief but the citizens who did it openly acknowledged they were paid large sums of money to do things like setting fire to cars, disrupting businesses like the Daily Planet by tossing tables and equipment out of windows.
It was enough to throw the cities into a state of chaos that had to be quelled. Even Washington DC wasn’t left untouched with Wonder Woman doing her utmost like all of them to bring an end to the chaos.
“It was a risk we couldn’t afford,” Batman said across the table with several heroes nodding in agreement. Others grudgingly would admit he was right even if they disagreed.
Had they not gone back when they did it could have been so much worse. Once they had gotten back to the cities they considered their homes like a switch it all stopped beyond a few people caught up in being a menace.
“We now know that Silhouette is far more dangerous than any of us had realized.” He said moving on to the next bit of business for the Justice League.
A hologram formed showing the figure of Silhouette in that black leather trenchcoat with a gas mask. A list appeared next to them with suggestions on what the powers could be if they were biological, chemical, technological, and so on.
“Silhouette displayed a tactical cunning beyond what any of us could have expected. Contingencies to handle members of the League albeit indirectly for most of us.”
More holograms showing the drones using red sun energy.
“Along with resources far beyond my expectations. Scanners from the watchtower managed to pick up that the drones were not the only thing being used to take down Superman.” Batman said far too calmly knowing Silhouette was in Gotham right now.
“The drones higher up in the sky that most of you couldn’t see created a barrier of some kind. It wasn’t just the red sun energy that was draining me so quickly. The barrier was preventing the rays of the sun from getting to me.” The other heroes watched Superman explain.
Each of them was now thinking the same thing. Silhouette had been expecting them.
“At least we managed to take out a lot of his drugs and the means to manufacture them. That should be a big hit towards Silhouette’s revenue.” Green Lantern spoke his mind with many heroes agreeing with him. Save for one.
“Silhouette had been in Gotham for only a few months. In that time all of that had been built within Gotham without anyone knowing. Not even I was aware of the locations. With the drugs that had been sold Silhouette had made a small fortune.” Batman cut in ruining what they believed was good news. It was just not as big a hit as they all were thinking it was.
Batman continued with the gathered heroes paying close attention. “Enough so he could bribe law-abiding citizens with outstanding debt to commit crimes for it to be paid off. Silhouette even paid off their fines, getting them released. Even with the damage you had managed he must have had far more resources since they were capable of funding that many facilities and building them without anyone noticing.”
“Sounds like this guy is far more resourceful than you let on.” Green Arrow spoke up next. He, like the others, had issues with the drugs in Gotham being shipped to their cities. It made their jobs a lot harder than they otherwise would be.
“Even I was unaware of what Silhouette was capable of and could use against us. Wonder Woman had engaged Silhouette when she was going into the pit to find survivors.”
Batman passed the conversation over to Wonder Woman who went into detail about what she saw. “Silhouette was already powerful compared to a baseline human. I held back like I always do against someone weaker than me. Silhouette was capable of somehow walking on the wall along with what at the time seemed to be telekinesis.”
“Telekinesis?” J’onn J’onzz perked up at the mention of a possible psychic.
“It wasn’t telekinesis,” Superman said looking at everyone sitting at the table or their hologram. “They used some kind of wire to attach to objects or the environment to move around.”
“Not only that, the wires were invisible to the naked eye. If it wasn’t for Superman I would have been unaware of what Silhouette was doing. The wires were strong. Capable of stopping and holding the weight of the debris raining from above altering its trajectory to me.” Wonder Woman said not happy Silhouette had gotten the better of her.
“Alongside these strange abilities whether they are mechanical or something else he was incredibly strong.”
“Do you have an estimate?” Batman cut in looking serious as he always did.
Wonder Woman had a contemplative look thinking it over. “At the beginning, I would have put him just above the assassins the others had battled against.”
“What would he be at the end of your fight?”
Wonder Woman looked unhappy. She didn’t like thinking about one of the rare moments in her life where she was made to look like a fool.
But she swallowed her pride knowing this could give the others including herself a better chance at apprehending Silhouette. More information with different perspectives had helped her in the past; this was no different.
“Almost equal to me using maybe half my full strength.”
The only reason Silhouette accomplished what he had was because she was holding back and hadn’t anticipated the sudden increase in both speed and power. Had she been expecting it she wouldn’t have been embarrassed like she was.
She can still remember the kick that sent her through multiple floors before finding herself in the air far up in the sky.
The gathered heroes muttered before with a hand held in the air they fell silent before Batman spoke.
“Silhouette tends to stick to the shadows. He came out for the Court's downfall personally. I firmly believe he did so to take their resources and it was important enough for them to be there personally. It’s the only logical reason why they allied with them then stabbed them in the back by relaying information to me.”
“He’s playing one side against another while building himself up,” Aquaman stated more than said.
“Yes. He tipped his hand enough for us to get a look at what he had to use against us. The fact that he managed to survive Klarion is another factor to take into account.”
Another hologram appeared showing the Lord of Chaos with a maniacal smile on his face. Many League members grew far more serious. Not that any of them weren’t taking the talk about Silhouette seriously.
Klarion was far more concerning considering he casually created a hole that was a mile in diameter in Gotham. The few good things that came from that event were that he managed to destroy the water purifier Samantha had managed to snag the blueprints for when she visited Wayne Tower with Bruce a few days prior.
“Do you think Klarion has an interest in Silhouette?” Black Canary asked the gathered heroes.
“Something happened in that pit between the two of them. If Klarion wanted to, he could have killed Silhouette the instant they met. Yet Silhouette was able to climb out of it. He struggled against Wonder Woman,” Superman’s arm gestured towards Diana, “Klarion would be well beyond Silhouette to handle.”
“Great, now we have to worry about the new villain teaming up with him…” Hal Jordan muttered aloud as the gathered heroes discussed the possible powers Silhouette had.
Eventually, the conversation turned to another important topic.
“Sooooo… when are we going back in to help you?” Hal Jordan asked Batman whose gaze was solely focused on the image of Silhouette.
“Not any time soon. If ever again.”
“You have got to be kidding me,” Flash said, shaking his head at Batman being too stubborn for his own good.
“Do I look like I am kidding to you?” Batman countered back, tearing his gaze away staring down Flash. Flash after a moment of staring back at him eased back, raising his hands in surrender.
“Make no mistake, I am thankful for you coming to help me in Gotham even if you went too far with rounding up the gangs. But in doing so you have created power vacuums that other criminals like Silhouette can now take over. The very thing I was trying to prevent by cracking down on the Court of Owls.”
At Batman’s explanation, some of the other heroes winced now realizing they may have made things worse for Batman in the long run.
“We have destroyed his means of developing the drugs that were spilling over into other cities across the country. We have at least slowed him down for the time being. You will need our help in capturing him. You have no way to handle him on your own Batman. I won’t let you.” Superman said leveling his signature look that everyone knew meant he wasn’t accepting no as an answer.
“I agree with Superman.” Wonder Woman backed up Superman. The gathered heroes voiced their agreement.
“I know.” He said standing up and walking away. “For now we wait until we can get him out in the open while pressuring him.”
All the gathered heroes agreed knowing that if they went to Gotham again Silhouette could just do what he did last time if not worse.
