I can't say if his friend is being honest and empathetic with him or if he is just "bullying" him like they did with the previous characters they interacted with.

Well I can definitely say that he is probably realizing that the friends he hung out with only wanted him to be with them because he enjoyed teasing the nerds!!But since they found out that he was no different from the nerds!!They are treating him as one of them!!
Maybe he was hanging with the wrong crowd!!I think that the guys at the nursery will definitely treat him as a true friend who won't tease him just because likes wearing diapers like them!!After a while I that he will definitely get used to being in them after getting over the fear of using them in public!!
