The Silhouette and The Forge
Chapter 34
I winced and rubbed the side of my head trying to make the headache go away. Pam had glanced over at me and was going to check on me but stopped with her eyes widening. Tilting my head in confusion with her just standing there transfixed at whatever she was seeing.
Before I can ask her what the problem was, the chancellor got my attention and reminded me of the current surprise guest at the doorway.
“M-M-Mr. Wayne, I wasn’t expecting you until later.” The chancellor stuttered.
“Well I managed to clear my schedule earlier than expected and decided to come here a bit early. Is that alright?” He asked, sounding innocent. For a long moment had his eyes on me before shifting them back to the chancellor.
Not going to lie I didn’t even realize he was here until I heard someone coming from the hallway. I guess it worked out that those two nimrods left the door wide open if he heard what was going on. That and being stressed out by bad news tends to make you focus on the messenger of the news.
“So what was going to be shown?” He said smiling at me and Kirk.
“Oh nothing at all Mr. Wayne. We were merely giving Kirk the unfortunate news that most of the funding to the university has been cut and Jason here would need the lab for one final experiment before we have to let him go since the university owes him that much.”
Bruce tilted his head looking deep in thought before looking around the room. “Well I did hear someone saying to show something? Why not see what it is?”
The chancellor is coming up empty handed on finding an excuse to not do so. He looks like he wants to refuse but can’t since Bruce happened to be one of the few individuals left helping finance the university since the state doesn’t give them that much due to a variety of factors.
Things like despite Gotham being a hellhole with crime pouring out of every crevice they have plenty of rich and influential people who have more than enough to donate to them.
That and other areas in the state in the government's eyes could use it more than them since it’s wasted on this city as far as they are concerned.
Then stuff like most of the money going to other more important things like the few forms of infrastructure they keep somewhat taken care of like the highways. If you call somewhat doing the occasional patch job while the crews take their sweet time about it to milk them for all they can.
The rest is just dispersed between a bunch of corrupt officials and anyone else who wants some of the money.
So with the Court having its members stop giving money to the university that had to have hurt the school a good bit. I still would like to know who it was they had used before me to manufacture the means to ‘cure’ the city.
With the school losing most of its funding and many of its staff being laid off it made it rather difficult to figure out who is responsible.
“So what was it that Dr. Langstrom had you working on?” Bruce said, looking between me and Kirk.
Noting Pamela blushed when she looked at me looking more embarrassed with me staring back at her uncomprehending of what the hell is bringing this on.
“Kirk here has made great progress in splicing in genes of different animal species into insects.” Walking forward with Kirk giving a long hard stare at the chancellor who merely gave a nervous smile before turning and doing a double take at me.
Woodrue for his part looks like he wants to say something but for once seems to know when to shut up for once in his life. Though oddly he paused midstep when he looked at me with a questioning look on his face.
Gesturing subtly at Kirk who got the message for him to start explaining with him quickly wiping his look of surprise off of his face.
“My current goal is to achieve the splicing of different species DNA without the subject dying.” He says as Bruce frowned at that, making Kirk look a little nervous.
“What I hope to achieve is using the unique traits of different species in the animal kingdom to transfer those advantages to humans to combat diseases we otherwise struggle to cure and give a means to help those with disabilities.” He goes on taking one of the monitors in the room going over more recent tests that had the subject last far longer.
A gasp had me look back at Pam who is enthralled seeing what Kirk had achieved on the screen. Nudging her with my shoulder and giving her a big happy smile that she reciprocated looking ecstatic at what Kirk had accomplished while looking bashfully at me.
Everyone’s gaze was glued to the screen seeing the fruit fly elongate out growing multiple legs like that of a centipede with it crawling along the container for about twenty seconds before showing signs like the others something wasn’t right and expired.
“Amazing.” Bruce said, a gleam in his eye but smiling and turning to Kirk with his hand held out to him.
Kirk just stared at it until I cleared my throat for him. “Oh. Uh, thanks Mr. Wayne.” He said, taking his hand.
“Just call me Bruce. With what you have achieved here would move genetics ahead several decades. It is a shame that the subjects don’t survive the procedure.”
Kirk’s smile became brittle at that reminder before getting control of himself. “Just call me Kirk if you want me to call you Bruce,” He said to him before segwaying to the thorn in his side, “Yes it is, I have been trying everything I could think of to ensure they can survive the process.”
“That’s when Kirk had an epiphany. He figured that while he worked on trying to adjust the formula he had set aside some time to write down notes for me on something that could be used to keep the subject alive and heal any damage done to their body while the splicing process was still happening.”
Walking over to my station seeing Bruce nod along humming. Pam herself wrung her hands nervously knowing what is at stake right now for me and Kirk.
Kirk looked like he absolutely loathed this entire situation while he gave me odd looks.
The chancellor just looked lost, not understanding much of what was going on here but he did understand that Bruce was interested and for that he will not pull any stunts courtesy of that. That and he seemed to catch onto whatever reason everyone was looking at me like I grew a second head.
Woodrue on the other hand looked less than happy but he hid it behind a greasy smile that made my skin crawl. Probably hoping to cozy up to Bruce when he got his chance. His look of contempt for me and Kirk somehow got even worse. He looked at Pam, his scowl deepening when she looked at me when she thought I wouldn’t notice.
It almost looked like… jealousy?
“So it would repair the body while the transformation happens.” Bruce said aloud, summing up what the stimpacks could do.
The stimpacks I never intended to be used in such a way, but they don’t need to know that. Kirk looked like he wanted to object about this but a gentle look from me and a hand gesture telling him to play along. He gave me a sad look and shallow nod before taking over.
I didn’t fail to notice Bruce playing it off like he hadn’t noticed me and Kirk’s silent conversation. He played along but his smile seemed to grow a little when looking at me. It made me feel… both good and bad and something I rather not think about.
Pamela stared at me and Kirk with her looking like she was starting to put the pieces together if the shape of her mouth in a rather thin line is any indication. I had dropped little bits and pieces when we had time to talk about my work and I think she is realizing what this is.
“The current issue is we don’t know if it will fix the problem of splicing but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used in the field of medicine. We have yet to test it during the splicing process. Daniel if you would?” He says with me already ahead of him.
Taking out the final product and sample which is a stimpack solution. Taking the chemical concoction into a needleless syringe and heading over to get our patient.
“This here is our patient, Lola. Say hi Lola!” I held a cream colored rabbit with one of its back legs in a small cast.
“Aw!” Pam cooed at the adorable rabbit with Bruce just smiling with Kirk looking torn.
Woodrue just rolled his eyes and I just ignored it explaining what I was going to do.
“Lola here had an accident where she hopped too close to the moon and broke her leg. Said injury would normally be around two to three months. With the monitor you can see the x-rays of her fracture along her leg. With this formula it will heal and mend the damage instantaneously.”
Bruce’s eyes widened at that statement before looking curious but far more interested. Woodrue looked on in disbelief like he just heard the most ridiculous thing ever. The chancellor looked on with a look in his eye that I had seen plenty of times by this point in Gotham. Greed.
Kirk looked like he wanted to say something but a quick glance made him fall silent.
“Doctor, set up the scanner for us so we can see the mixture work in real time.”
Immediately he began pulling up the scanner with me bringing Lola over to the machine with it sending out a red laser that goes over Lola’s form. A holographic screen formed showing Lola in all her furry glory before the image shifted to her skeletal structure
Lola who simply twitched her nose before relaxing in my arms oblivious to what’s going on in the room before gently taking the syringe and bringing it to her face. She sniffs it for a moment before drinking from it.
Was beginning to wonder if she was going to be picky about this like she is with her food. We got ourselves a little premadana to my chagrin.
Fighting to keep her from yanking the syringe out of my hands with her taking a liking to it. It wasn’t but a few seconds with the contents of the syringe swallowed by the rabbit. The dulled sound of something snapping in place is heard in the room.
Lola for her part tries to hop out of my arms but I keep her in place.
The image zooms in on her injured leg showing how good she hurt herself when trying to pull some impressive acrobatic maneuvers when she got upset she didn’t get the rabbit toy she wanted.
The multiple fractures in her leg were shown with readings on her heart rate and other vitals giving us a clear view of what is happening inside of her.
Near instantly after ingesting the stimpack mixture her leg fractures began to heal. It was almost like clay reconnecting back together with no complications or issues to be seen.
“Heart rate is normal, no increase in blood pressure. Everything is stable. The mixture works.” Kirk let out a breath of relief looking at me with a complicated gaze.
Bruce for his part looked between the two of us with a big smile and clapped his hands together with the other three participants looking on with their jaws hanging low.
Woodrue looked utterly dumbfounded, the chancellor looked the same before quickly closing his mouth and rubbing his hands together. Pam slowly walked forward looking at the results.
Bruce walked closer to look over Lola who was now shaking her leg and thumping the other against me ready to get this leg prison off of her.
“You two do realize you just created something that would save countless lives with this, right?” Bruce gave us both an intense look that made Kirk cough into his hand nervously.
“We are now. Kirk here like myself were just hyperfocused on trying to find a way to continue our advancements into genetics but we didn’t think of the applications of other things we did to get to this point. A case of seeing the trees but not the forest.”
Bruce for his part shook his head smiling with Pamela getting closer to me. Knowing what she wanted to do I held Lola out to her. She smiled giddily and started petting the little fluffball with her eating it up like the little attention whore that she was.
“Something I am all too familiar with in running Wayne Enterprises.” Bruce said before turning to talk shop with Kirk.
“Kirk, do you realize what you have created here?!” The chancellor butted in finally finding his voice.
Woodrue now the odd man out looked on with a frown on his face and hands clenched.
Kirk turned and gave the man an unimpressed look which the oblong parasite so blinded by his greed didn’t even notice. “Yes, I am. I take it you are interested in this Bruce?”
Bruce for his part nodded his head extending his hand out to Kirk which he reciprocated and unlike the first time he was far more assertive and confident in shaking his hand. It helped that Kirk no longer felt like his world was falling apart at the seams.
“Indeed. If you want, can we talk business while I tour the university?” He gestured to the door.
Kirk just gave a sad laugh shaking his head with Bruce frowning.
“Something wrong?”
“As nice as that would be unless you have the pull to help me keep this lab I unfortunately won’t be able to continue my research and,” He said, trailing off for a moment looking at me for a small moment, “Any further means of making a profit off of my research won’t be possible nor getting my assistant the test he came here to take.”
“Why would you lose the lab?” Bruce asked, looking towards the chancellor who was now no longer salivating with a hint of drool coming out of the corner of his mouth instead of looking like a deer staring at a pair of headlights. “You have made such great advancements in genetics and with this creation going by the readings on Lola if proven to work without issue on humans this could save so many lives and bring about great advancements in the medical industry.”
“Oh that was just a… misunderstanding!” He said trying to not look bad but Bruce cocked a brow.
“You were telling us before that because Woodrue had brought more to the table for whatever contributions none of us have heard anything about he would get access to this lab and Kirk would get unceremoniously booted out of the university. All of that was a misunderstanding?” I spoke aloud with no mercy.
Pamela turned her head away and brought her hand up to try and stifle her laughter at me just putting the chancellor in the trenches.
The fat man's cringey smile turned stiff before his eyes looked at me wide and pleading.
Yeah you're not getting any mercy from me. I am sorely tempted to have him disappear, but I think I can settle for a compromise of not killing him and just making his life into a living hell.
“Oh really? Chancellor I think you and I need to have a discussion about this. After I am done speaking with Kirk and his assistant we will discuss things in your office.” Bruce told him, sounding more stern but somehow managing to keep himself from appearing like Batman.
The fat man merely sweats with beads of it going down his face before after a long moment nodded and power walked out of the room in a rush to get out.
Woodrue looked between him and the rest of us, jaw firmly set with a vein appearing on his temple and hands clenched so much his knuckles turned white. Looks like he gave up on the idea of trying to get Bruce’s support with the chancellor bailing out.
Before he said a word I noted he was glancing at Pamela and forming an idea I nudged Kirk who was about to talk more with Bruce.
“Sorry to bother you Kirk but a quick question. Since we are probably going to have more work coming our way wouldn’t it be a good idea to hire another assistant?”
Kirk gave me a questioning look with Pam just giving Lola all the attention that she just soaked up. She does look up while absent mindedly rubbing and scratching Lola’s ears while still looking at me.
“Yeah? I mean if Bruce here is fully supportive of us an extra hand wouldn’t hurt to have around.” He said scratching his jaw line with his beard coming in looking a little unkempt.
“I wouldn’t mind at all. Except one thing I do expect,” Kirk stood up straighter giving Bruce his full undivided attention like his life depended on it, “Is for you all to take your time and rest. Don’t worry about losing the lab. I will take care of that.”
Bruce gave each of us a kind smile with his gaze snapping to me and back at Kirk.
Okay what the hell is on my face to make these people look at me like this?!
Not showing my annoyance at not knowing what I am doing to get these weird looks we all smiled back at the man.
“So who did you have in mind for an assistant?” He asked us.
I nodded towards Pamela. “I was thinking about Pamela here.”
She froze rubbing Lola’s head who looked up at her demanding she continue the attention. I heard a swift inhale behind us knowing Woodrue was not happy hearing that.
“She is a capable assistant considering she has practically taught Woodsoft's class herself the entire time she has been his assistant and is quite capable in a lab since he can attest to that otherwise he wouldn’t have kept her so long.” Waving my hand in his general direction without even looking back at him.
Kirk merely adopted an expression showing he is in thought tilting his head back and forth with Bruce looking at Pam. He did glance over at Woodrue with a stern glare that made the man take a step back but his slimy face is still scowling at me for ratting him out.
“Are you fine with being Kirk’s assistant alongside… I don’t think I got your name?”
“Daniel Cunningham. It’s a pleasure to meet the most charitable man in Gotham.” I said to him with genuine respect.
“I…” Pam didn’t know what to say with everyone turning to look at her. She looked torn with her hands rubbing against each other.
“She will not because she is my assistant.” Woodrue said, before he stomped forward now looking furious with his breathing coming out in ragged gasps.
“You have denied me my destiny, and now seek to steal more?! No!” Woodrue said, snatching an arm out to grab Pam.
To my and everyone else’s shock Kirk was the one who slapped it aside with me placing myself in front of Pam who looked around me in shock at Woodrue's outburst.
“That is enough Jason. It’s over. You are not getting my lab, and you will be leaving the university. At least have enough dignity to walk away without causing someone else any trouble.” Kirk said to him in a stern unyielding tone reprimanding him.
One that Woodrue blinked owlishly at him not having expected Kirk of all people to get in his way and stand up to him.
“I have to agree with Kirk. I think it best you leave now before it becomes necessary to involve security.” Bruce warned him, crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes at the worm pretending to be a man.
Woodrue rubbed the wrist of his hand that Kirk had smacked away before looking each of us in the eyes with teeth gritted, his breathing frantic like a cornered rat that was about to meet its end.
Slowly, he stepped back. He shook his head before his gaze fell on me and Pamela. Pointing his finger at her and she simply looked back at him with a sad look on her face.
Pity maybe, at seeing the man who had taught her something’s falling so far and becoming something less than human. For her at least he had fallen. For everyone else the illusion he had built up to fool and manipulate her had finally shattered.
“You were nothing before I took you in. Everything you have done and will ever achieve will have been because of me, Bitch.” He said it with such venom and vitriol Pamela flinched back like she had been struck. It was spoken like she had somehow committed some unforgivable crime in his eyes.
Taking a step forward my one arm clenched and ready to let him know he made a grave mistake but a pair of soft but firm hands stopped me from going over to him and caving his face in.
My gaze is snapped away from him and when I looked down I saw Pam looked up at me with tears in her eyes and shaking her head for me not to go after him. I realized I had been holding my breath letting it out and forced myself to let go.
Bruce to my side had been watching me. Seeing me let it go and kept myself in between Woodrue and her. The man was giving what looked like a proud smile to me.
Woodrue just smirked making my skin crawl. He walked back to the doorway but before he left he said one last thing. “This isn’t over! I promise you will regret this!” He gave his foreboding threat and wagged his finger at us all.
I don’t take any of it seriously. The man is no threat. Pamela could easily handle him in a contest of strength when she handled heavy pots and plants in May’s floral shop that way more than the scrawny twig. Even if she may not be the best fighter she would be capable of handling him with ease.
The tension that had formed dissipated with Woodrue's absence. But even then, the mood had been soured with the man having his breakdown-- something I firmly believe was deserved after all he had helped put Kirk and so many others through.
Who knows how many others he had treated the same way he had Kirk. The guy had no real friends and no one seemed to like him. The chancellor himself only tolerated him because of money, once that was no longer a motivator or he stood to lose more than he could gain he had turned against him.
Shaking my head before wrapping my free arm around Pamela bringing her closer to me with her hugging me back burying her face into my chest feeling a wetness in my lab coat and shirt.
Kirk stepped over and patted her on the back consolingly before he placed his hand on my shoulder giving us a calm and caring look. His eyes looked into mine with gratitude and warmth.
“Pamela, I am sorry for all that happened and I want you to know that even if you refuse to be an assistant of mine you are always welcome here. That and I fully intend to see if I can get you both access to the tests needed to get your degrees.”
Pamela, who had stopped crying but was tightly hugging me, froze up. Even I froze in place, my head moving so fast one would think it gave me whiplash.
“If that’s alright with you Bruce?”
Said man was looking at the doorway never once taking his hardened gaze off of it after Woodrue gave that vague threat. One that I don’t take seriously, chalking it up to Bruce having dealt with enough madmen in this city to have a case of deja vu or even ptsd.
Writing Woodrue off as a nonthreat since even someone as old as May could park him on his butt the guy wasn’t doing a thing. As much of a rat as everyone thinks him to be he will just cozy up to some poor fool with too much money and not enough sense and help him out.
Out of sight, out of mind.
“Hm?” Bruce hummed his expression softened with him turning to look at Kirk with a gentle smile. “Oh, yes. If Kirk is willing to vouch for the both of you that can be arranged.”
“Thank you Bruce. Well, do either of you want to take the test?” He said looking down at both of us with Lola now getting annoyed no one is petting her with her pushing against my arm and hand holding her.
Despite that being the reason for me doing this in the first place I felt hesitant to go through with it. Best to ask before making it to the finish line.
“Will I still be your assistant or at least here to help you?”
My question after a moment of silence caught Kirk and even Bruce off guard.
“What kind of question is that Daniel? You have a chance to get what you came here for and a future!” Kirk said after finding his voice and realizing what I might do.
“But I also will leave you behind and considering how badly you were holding the fort down before I became your assistant I am not letting you out of my sight.” Despite what I said may come off as insulting, the big grin on my face showed otherwise with Kirk giving me a deadpan look.
One that made Pam who was wiping her eyes while keeping her back to us so we didn’t see what she was doing chuckled a little before catching herself.
“Oh I am so glad you both find this funny about your futures.” He said rubbing his eyes that looked tired yet relieved. Like the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders.
Bruce for his part merely watched us banter between one another with a small smile. Though it didn’t get past me that he was giving me a knowing look when he would glance between me, Kirk, and the lab table where all my testing was done.
Not surprised he picked up on that. But he hasn’t said anything about it so he doesn’t have a problem with it. For now. Hard to say but I am leaning more towards he is fine with it seeing it as a kind gesture to help someone who was in dire need of it.
“I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t take the test and stick around with Kirk since you two together have accomplished quite a lot. I can only imagine what all three of you could do.” Bruce said to Pamela who looked at him and then us with a big smile.
“I would love to join them and take the test. What about you Daniel?”
“Well of course! It’s why I came to the university in the first place.” My smile hasn’t been this big and warm in a long time. For once, things felt like they were starting to look up for us all.
Not long after that Bruce hashed out some details with Kirk while me and Pamela were helping Lola get her cast off with her thumping the floor making her displeasure known to all. Each time instead of getting the desired reaction Pamela just giggled at the tantrum the rabbit threw.
Bruce promises to discuss more later with Kirk in greater detail since he still has to check over the rest of the university to ensure his money is being used properly and have a nice long chat with the chancellor. When he thought I wouldn’t notice he would look at me like he wasn’t looking at person so much as he was looking at a puzzle that needed to be solved.
Having my own suspicions that he didn’t just come here for the university but more likely for me. Not a big shock since the talons did manage to cut me however shallow they were and get some blood on their blades. Unlikely but not impossible the blood wasn’t contaminated with the blood of the talons in the room back in Wayne Tower.
Decided to come check on me, see if I am on the up and up? Maybe he was scouting me out as a threat… hard to say with him. But he seemed satisfied with what he saw so for now it is the least of my concerns. So long he doesn’t know that I am Silhouette instead of what I want him to see me as-- merely someone who owes Silhouette some favors that will unfold if necessary showing a deeper but shocking connection.
If I am living in a comic book world even one based off the comics might as well ham it up a bit and use some of the cliches comics are known for.
Finally getting Lola back in her pin when she was fighting me and Pamela to do so with Pamela enjoying herself smiling a warm cheery smile that I haven’t seen her with in the entire time she has been working with Woodrue.
“Pamela I will be in touch with you soon about being my assistant and the details involved. If Woodrue causes you any trouble do not hesitate to contact me or Daniel. Alright?” Kirk says to her with genuine concern that catches Pamela off guard.
Jaded after seeing so many authority figures simply dismiss what she is going through not viewing it being important enough or worth their time. So it must have been a shock seeing someone like Kirk be so genuine and honest with her wellbeing.
“Thank you. To both of you.” She says looking happier than she has in quite some time. The closest thing to compare is when we were at May’s flower shop then the diner.
“No need. Daniel is willing to vouch for you and I know for a fact anyone who can put up with Woodrue for as long as you have is someone with plenty of grit and determination. Well I need to handle some things outside of the lab but before I go!”
Kirk quickly got into my personal space and wrapped his arms around me in a big bear hug. “Thank you Daniel for doing what you did with your project. I don’t know how I will repay you but I promise I will. I owe you big time for this.”
Awkwardly standing there with him hugging me with surprising strength before patting his back.
“It’s alright Kirk, and don’t worry about paying me back.”
Kirk and Pamela both give me looks like I am stupid.
“Daniel, I am paying you back. You helping me keep this lab with what you created may as well be gold to both the scientific community but to companies and businesses it would be a gold mine.”
Thinking about it he has a point. Rather not be viewed as the Reed Richard’s of Gotham when he puts it like that.
Finally letting me go while giving me a stern look. “I will pay you back, I swear.”
“Fine. Don’t work yourself to death doing it and you just do it over time. You can start by working with me and Pamela with other projects that we would be interested in doing.” Waving my hand at him with him settling down and nodding giving a small smile.
Kirk, unlike most other people, understands the severity of what I did for him and appreciates that showing gratitude where people like Woodrue would only expect it to be handed to him. It’s part of why I did what I did to ensure he doesn’t fall becoming Man-Bat like he did in other series.
“With that settled and knowing we can keep doing our research, I had best go and get this all sorted and get it taken care of. Daniel if you would please show Pamela around while cleaning up the lab.”
He swiftly walks out with a pep in his step.
With Kirk gone for sometime and going over everything in the lab with Pam ranging from the various animals to the equipment and how to operate it. It didn’t take long with Pam quickly getting the hang of the equipment just proving me right that she would make an excellent assistant to Kirk even if her field is more about plants than it is animals.
Finishing up cleaning the lab with Pam helping me make short work of it.
While we did so she occasionally would eye the board set up near my station when she got close seeing different ideas with plenty of notes and details attached.
Like an artificial heart that could potentially function better than a normal unmodified flesh and blood one with other ideas splattered around like utilizing modified viral strains to combat other viruses and bacteria. One in particular she has her interest in is a method of crossbreeding plant species that normally wouldn’t be capable of intermixing.
“Thanks for the help Pam. You didn’t have to since you're not an assistant just yet you know?” My voice snaps her out of it with her giving me a small smile shaking her head.
“Like I am going to leave you to do all of this on your own. Also…” She comes closer to me looking a little shy and nervous.
“What you did for Dr. Langstrom was really sweet.” She shuffles around awkwardly, “Uh also Daniel-”
“Would you like to go out sometime Pamela?”
She goes wide-eyed with a small blush forming on her face.
Giving her a sly smile. “Is that a no?”
“No! I mean yes. No I mean- yes I would love to go out with you Daniel!” She managed to squeak out after embarrassing herself brushing her crimson red hair behind an ear.
“Alright. Sounds good. I won’t be able to go out this week but next time I will have room in my schedule to go with you. That sounds alright?”
“Yeah, it will give us plenty of time to decide on where to go. I have a couple of places I wouldn’t go to see and enjoy together.”
Perfect. Gives me plenty of time to deal with Court then I can enjoy my time with Pam. Kirk’s future is secured and Gotham doesn’t need to worry about an oversized flying rodent. The best part is Woody just got shafted. Hard. It almost makes the pain of the now mostly gone headache vanish.
Another thing putting me in a good mood is the Court and its assets will go to someone who can better use it to help this city… a part of me feels guilty about Jaina being potentially in love with my Will persona. Especially knowing what I am doing to do later on with it.
Freezing on the spot having braced myself with something else came into my mind that wasn’t naturally my own since the last couple of times had involved quite a bit of pain ranging from debilitating to mild. This time it was nothing to bring pain to me but the reward was something that would prove useful.
Shaking my head of such thoughts and simply enjoying the present. Nothing could ruin this moment and everything is downhill from here on out.
