“My friend Eli was telling me about amusement parks the other day,” Jaya stated during a date with Iris at a Thai restaurant. “I can’t believe that in my hundred years working with humans, I have never been to one.”
Iris had stopped eating to zone out looking at something on the wall behind Jaya, her now forgotten food falling back into the plate.
“I have no idea when amusement parks were first invented,” she quietly said, lost in thoughts. “It feels weird to think of amusement parks hundreds of years ago, but if there’s one thing I know is that humans had so many inventions since the dawn of time. I imagine they weren’t exactly like our current ones, but I think there might have been similar options in older times.”
Bitter, Jaya’s lips settled into a pout. “And yet, I’ve never been to one.”
“Amusement parks can be popular date spots, but maybe you just met humans who preferred to have more calm dates,” Iris tried to interpret it. “Most people I know see amusement parks more as activities to do with friends, actually.”
“The way Eli spoke about them really sold them to me, I have to be honest.”
Iris beamed. “There’s one not too far from here. It’s not as big as the famous ones, but it’s still pretty good. We could go during your next day off.”
“We could?”
Her and Iris had been dating for a while now, yet Jaya still felt a bit of surprise any time Iris showed such interest and joy in doing things she would like. It warmed her heart every time.
“Of course!”
“Is it okay if I invite Eli, too?” Jaya bit her lip, worried Iris would be disappointed that it wouldn’t be a date. “You also said it feels more like a friend activity.”
“Of course you can invite them. I actually wanted to meet them,” Iris replied, her cheeks flushing slightly. “You talk about them a lot and I was curious about them, but I wasn’t sure whether it was allowed for me to meet other cupids so I was postponing asking you.”
Jaya couldn’t help smiling at that. “Eli wants to meet you, too. I talk about you a lot when I’m with them.”
Iris’ cheeks reddened even more. Any kind of attention on her got that type of reaction, and even though Jaya was used to it now, she still loved to see her get flustered.
“Let me know when you’re both free, and we can organize a trip there,” Iris replied.
That’s exactly what Jaya did as soon as she went back to her world. She intercepted her friend as soon as she was able, and let them know of her conversation with Iris. It took them a few days to figure out a schedule, but soon they were able to give Iris a date.
When the day came, Jaya was more nervous than she imagined she would be—which would have been not nervous at all.
“What’s got you so on edge?” Eli asked as they approached her.
“I’m not sure.”
It wasn’t a lie. She really had no idea why her stomach was in a knot.
“Is it awkward for me to be there?” they asked, serious. “Would you rather it be a date?”
“No, I want to spend a day having fun with both my girlfriend and my best friend.”
“Then…are you nervous about me meeting her? Or maybe, about her meeting me?”
Jaya stopped for a moment. “Maybe?”
What if they didn’t get along? Neither of the two were people who ever had strong distaste for others, especially when first meeting someone, but the doubt was still there.
Eli’s eyes softened and they wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“As long as she makes you happy, I know I’m going to like her for sure.”
She smiled at her friend, grateful for them.
Eli grinned back. “Let’s go meet your girlfriend.”
They were going to meet Iris at her house, to make it easier for her. When they appeared in her living room, they found her sitting on the couch. She sprung up as soon as she saw them, her hands smoothing her peach flower patterned dress.
“Hi,” she awkwardly said, her voice a little squeaky.
Eli took a step towards her, extending their hand. “Hello, I’m Eli.”
She reached out to shake their hand. “I’m Iris. Nice to meet you.”
Eli was just one inch shorter than Iris, at five-eleven, but their wings made them appear bigger and taller than her. Jaya noticed Iris get distracted, her eyes traveling over their wings, studying them. She had never told Iris that cupids’ wings could have different colors, and she looked visibly surprised and fascinated by the discovery. Where Jaya’s wings were bright red, Eli’s were light pink, with a few sparse white feathers here and there.
“They’re pretty cool, aren’t they?” Eli told Iris, smug. Then, they turned to Jaya. “See? I told you my wings are lady magnets.”
Jaya chuckled softly as Iris blushed furiously, looking away. Jaya walked up to them and put a hand on Iris’ waist as she leaned forward to leave a kiss on her lips.
“Hello darling,” Jaya whispered.
Iris’ eyes immediately softened, a big smile stretching over her face.
“Hi,” she replied, almost dreamily.
Jaya could very well physically feel Eli’s smug and teasing look as they watched the two of them. She had her confirmation when she glanced at them from the corner of her eyes, finding them smirking and wiggling their eyebrows at her.
Fur brushed against her ankle and Jaya looked down to meet Cuddles’ stare. She crouched down and scratched behind her ears. “Hello to you too, baby.”
The cat meowed happily in reply.
“The amusement park is a hour and a half drive from here,” Iris said, unconsciously leaning towards Jaya as if there was an invisible pull tugging her closer. “We should go now.”
She showed them the car key she was already holding.
“Actually, we’re traveling magically,” Jaya replied, standing up again.
Iris’ eyes danced from both of them, curious. “How?”
“I’m going to teleport us somewhere in the back where no one can see us appear,” Eli explained, shrugging. “We’re not made for human travel, and our way is faster and easier.”
Iris nodded and left her keys on the table, then looked at them as if to silently ask what was next. A moment later, both cupids retracted their wings, Iris’ eyes following the action. Then, Jaya reached out with both hands, one towards Iris and one towards Eli. When Eli did the same, Iris realized they wanted her to hold their hands.
“You might want to keep your eyes closed,” Eli warned Iris. “Less nausea.”
Iris’ hand squeezed her girlfriend’s. Jaya had used that magic on the both of them once, but it had been only to move them from living room to bedroom. This was different, a bigger type of magic. Jaya squeezed her hand back, a small attempt at comforting her.
Eli counted down slowly, giving her time to prepare, then a swirly cloud of reddish smoke enveloped them. When it cleared, they were in a remote part of a parking lot, mostly hidden behind a toilet cabin.
Iris looked around, then pointed in a direction. “The entrance is that way.”
Jaya and Eli silently followed her. They watched her grab her wallet out of her purse as they neared the ticket area, and Eli glanced at Jaya with a frown.
“She insisted,” she mouthed to them.
When discussing the amusement park trip, Jaya had informed Iris they could get human money without problems and use that to fund their fun trip, but Iris had insisted she wanted to treat the both of them for the day. Jaya had worried it would be a lot, but Iris kept telling her she could afford it, and that she really wanted to do it, so she had given in.
Iris passed them their tickets, beaming with anticipation.
They first went to the attractions for kids, not caring about people’s questioning stares. Since it was Jaya’s first time at an amusement park, it was like the three of them had silently agreed to do all the events and attractions starting from the basic ones, just for her. They did carousels, bumper cars, and tame roller coasters. Some of them were slow and simple, but each attraction was fun and unique in its own way. Jaya sometimes would turn around to find Iris looking at her with a soft smile tugging her lips and a satisfied glint in her eyes. It gave her butterflies every time.
“Oh, can we go there?” Iris asked, excited, as she stopped in front of a funhouse.
From where they were standing Jaya could see a rolling tunnel on the right side, some moving steps in the entrance, and something spraying water on the second story. She had no idea what to expect from it, and she found that exciting.
“It seems fun,” she replied, nodding to Iris.
“Well, you ladies have fun in the house,” Eli said, a mischievous grin on their lips. “I’ll wait for you here. Maybe flirting with that pretty lady over there to pass the time.”
They gestured towards a woman playing alone at one of the prize stands. Jaya couldn’t help snorting at that.
“Sure, shoot your shot.”
Eli did a gesture like dipping an imaginary hat, and immediately left to talk to the woman.
In the house, Jaya let Iris go first, smiling at the soft laughs and small screeches she did any time she was met with a new obstacle. Jaya followed her through ground made of metal rolls, mazes of strings and elastic bands, steep staircases that moved in different directions and paths in between jets of water. They got up to the second floor, and when they almost reached the end, Iris abruptly stopped. Jaya had to step to the side to see the problem: in front of them was a slide, which was supposed to be their way to go back to the ground floor. The plastic thing looked stable enough for a small toddler to go in, but definitely not something Jaya could go through. A sliver of annoyance overcame her. The slide hadn’t been visible from outside, but the staff at the entrance knew the house, and they had seen that Jaya was fat, so they could have warned them about the slide in advance. How were they supposed to go down now? The experience had been nothing but fun so far, and Jaya hated that something like that could possibly ruin it.
“There’s service stairs there,” Iris said, pointing to the opposite corner of the space.
There was no sign saying they couldn’t use it, so they left through those. Iris reached out and offered her hand to Jaya as they did, a soft smile stretching her lips in silent comfort.
They found Eli waiting for them at the exit, pouting slightly.
“No luck?” Jaya asked, half amused and half curious.
Eli shook their head. “She’s straight,” they replied, bitterly.
Jaya tried her best to press her lips together to hold back her laughter. Not that she enjoyed seeing her friend down, but Eli really had infamously bad luck with women. She put an arm around their shoulders reassuringly, and they resumed the fun.
They stopped at a food stand, scanning all the types of chocolate and candied fruits they had. All three of them ended up getting sticks of chocolate covered strawberries, Eli and Jaya with milk chocolate and Iris with white chocolate.
When Iris took the first bite, she smiled brightly and wiggled her body happily.
“Is it that good?” Jaya asked.
She had already taken a bite out of hers, and so had Eli, and while it was good, it didn’t have any extraordinary flavor.
“The white chocolate is so much better with strawberries,” Iris replied. She handed her stick to Jaya. “You should try it.”
Happy to comply, Jaya leaned forward to take a bite out of one of her strawberries. A smile immediately pulled at her lips.
“You’re right, white chocolate tastes much better with strawberries.”
Iris offered the fruit to Eli as well, but they refused. Jaya had a hunch that they had done it to not cross boundaries since Jaya and Iris were together, and while Jaya wouldn’t have had a problem with them sharing food, she still appreciated her friend taking note of and respecting the invisible boundary.
They went to the water attractions next, which were a welcome experience after being under the hot sun for hours.
When they got to the more extreme attractions and roller coasters, however, Iris became nervous.
“I don’t really like those kinds of attractions,” she explained, her fingers stimming with the side of her dress. “I just know I’d get panic attacks while on the ride and it would be scary and impossible to handle up there.”
“It’s okay, we can just skip them,” Eli reassured her, Jaya nodding next to them.
Iris had immediately shook her head. “No, please don’t skip them for me.”
“I don’t want to leave you here alone waiting for us.” Jaya’s lips unintentionally formed a slight pout.
Iris had taken her hand then, squeezing it slightly. “It’s okay, I promise. I want you to experience it anyway. You two can go, I’ll wait here.”
It had taken a bit more back and forth, because Jaya really did not want to leave her girlfriend behind, but after multiple reassuring words from Iris, she and her friend ended up going to a couple of attractions alone. She generally ended up enjoying the adrenaline rush she got from them, but she had more fun when she was doing the tamer things with Iris, so she didn’t try all the remaining attractions.
They spent a few more hours at the park, eating at one of their themed restaurants, then seeing a show at their theater. Before leaving, they went for a few quick rounds in the attractions they previously enjoyed most, just to squeeze a bit more joy out of the day, and then tried their hand at a few of the prize games. They found a game that required them to fish plastic ducks out of a little pond, but instead of being basic yellow ducks, each one of them was dressed as a character from a show or a movie. Jaya and Eli pointed to Iris all the ones they didn’t know or recognize, and Iris happily explained who each of them were. In the end, with the accumulated points Iris won a pink stuffed bunny and she gave it to Jaya as a gift.
When the late afternoon came, all three of them were exhausted, but they had big smiles plastered on their faces.
“Today was so fun,” Jaya commented as they walked out of the park. “Thank you both for coming with me to try it out.”
“It was a pleasure,” Iris replied. The happy but tired look almost made her glow.
“We should do things like this more often. It was great,” Eli said. Then they turned to Iris and winked. “And you’re great company.”
Iris blushed at that, making Jaya chuckle softly. “Thanks.”
“Well, I’ll see you tomorrow at work,” Eli continued, pointing at Jaya. “And you”—they pointed at Iris—“I’ll hopefully see again soon, too.”
Iris waved at them, before Eli teleported away.
“Should we go home?” Jaya asked, offering her girlfriend her hands.
Iris happily took them, and she teleported them back to Iris’ living room. Exhausted, Jaya set the stuffed bunny on the table and let herself fall backwards on the couch, extending her arms to silently tell Iris to join her. Right on cue, Iris climbed to lay on top of her, hiding her head in the crook of her neck. With the corner of eyes, Jaya could see Cuddles sleeping soundly on her fluffy bed near the TV.
“I really, really liked today,” Jaya said, caressing her arm. “Thank you again for doing this for me.”
“You don’t need to thank me.” Iris reached out to take her hand in hers and intertwined their fingers. “I love spending time with you, and I love seeing you happy. You smiled so much today I thought my heart was going to explode at the sight.”
Jaya laughed softly. “You’re such a sap.”
When Iris looked up at her, cheeks slightly pink, Jaya leaned forward to leave a soft kiss on her lips.
“Today was perfect.”
“I could make it even better, if you want,” Iris replied.
Jaya raised an eyebrow, curious. “How?”
Without missing a beat, Iris said, “With an orgasm.”
Jaya busted out laughing, surprised by Iris’ sudden boldness. She had not expected her to say that at all—and with such a serious face.
“I think Eli’s flirty nature rubbed off on you.”
Iris pressed her lips together, trying to hold back her own smile.
“Well, orgasms release feel-good hormones. Today was a happy day, so I thought we could end it with more happiness,” Iris calmly explained. “I’m not currently feeling the sex-sex part, but I would be happy to still do something for you.”
Jaya stopped for a moment to really study her expression. “Are you sure? You don’t have to put out for me if you don’t want to do anything sexual.”
Iris shook her head. “It’s not like that. I really do like taking care of you and making you feel good.”
“Well, if you do want to,” Jaya started, dragging it out, “then I’m not saying no.”
Letting go of Jaya’s hand, Iris’ fingers traced her body until they sneaked under her dress. She pulled her panties aside and immediately started brushing her fingers along her entrance.
Iris looked up at her, maybe to study her reactions, maybe just to watch her, and Jaya couldn’t resist leaning forward to catch her lips with hers. They kissed slowly and softly, just as Iris’ fingers slowly played with her pussy. Jaya cupped her cheek, their lips melting together as Jaya moaned quietly against her.
When she came, Iris left a trail of gentle kisses on her cheek, jaw and neck.
“Thank you,” Jaya said when Iris removed her hand from under her dress.
“My pleasure.”
There was a hint of satisfaction in her tone that made Jaya smile.
They wrapped their arms around each other, Jaya pulling Iris even closer, loving to feel her against her.
“What’s next on your list?” Iris said eventually, echoing what Jaya had asked her multiple times on the day they first met.
“I always found arcades fascinating,” she confessed.
“Perfect. Let me know a date, and I’ll take you to all the arcades in town.”
Jaya tried to hide her smile by leaving a kiss on her temple. “It’s a promise.”
