Jeffrey Knowles Park was only a few blocks away from the general neighborhood surrounding Sytry Street, and just from the look of it, one could tell it was almost untouched by modern civilization. Apart from the benches and trash cans littered about, as well as the playground lying in the center of it all, it was a quaint and modest piece of nature with an atmosphere all its own. Half the park was covered in a menagerie of trees, but there was a helpful trail erected onto the ground to prevent visitors from getting lost. For anyone looking to get away from the chaos of life for an afternoon, this was the perfect spot to do so.
Of course, no one was presently at the park, likely due to the efforts of Kamika, Elizabeth, and the gargoyles. Kamika and Elizabeth both made an obnoxious racket trying to drive people out of the park, while the gargoyles were content with using scare tactics to send the children screaming for the hills. There would no doubt be plenty of complaints filed against all of them for this abrupt harassment, but they could worry about that once the duel was settled.
For the final part of the set-up, Elizabeth was busy surrounding the perimeter of the park with a long white rope. Kamika sat atop the slide and patiently waited for Elizabeth to finish setting up, while the gargoyles were content to hang out directly underneath the slide looking on in confusion.
“Jeez, who goes to all this extra effort just for a slugfest?” Toil wondered aloud. “This girl’s definitely got some screws loose.”
“You mean that wasn’t obvious before??” Trouble asked, looking just as perplexed by Elizabeth’s additional work as Toil.
“She was the one who initiated this competition,” Double-Double pointed out. “Perhaps she means to legitimize it in any way she can.”
“But this is supposed to be a death battle! Who cares about rules?!” Trouble argued.
“Shows how much you know,” Kamika mocked with a smirk. “If she’s going to the trouble of making up rules for our little showdown, then it’ll be all the more satisfying to beat her at her own game! Why, I can picture the look on her face now~”
Kamika giggled to herself as her frisky tail swung back and forth. Trouble, meanwhile, leaned over to Toil.
“Should we tell her the rules are made up by someone who probably never left middle school?” he asked with concern.
“Nah, let her have this,” Toil murmured.
“The time has come, spawn of the underworld! Show yourself before me at once!”
Elizabeth shouted from atop the jungle gym with her arms folded. Kamika, in a much more cheerful mood than before, flew over to Elizabeth, crossing her legs and folding her as she flapped her wings.
“Here I am~! You sure put in a lot of work today,” Kamika complimented, a flirt in her voice but a wicked smile on her lips. “It’s too bad that almost all of it will be for naught~”
“Don’t be so sure, demon!” Elizabeth declared. “I have yet to announce the win conditions for our battle!”
“Yeah, yeah, make all the excuses you want,” Kamika spoke curtly, taking a look around the park. “What’s with all the tacky rope? I thought we were supposed to be fighting, not playing tug-of-war.”
“I will get to that!” Elizabeth climbed down from the jungle gym in a manner similar to how a possum scrambles down from a tree, eventually holding up three fingers in Kamika’s face.
“There are three win conditions for our battle!” said Elizabeth as she pointed to the rope. “First, if you step outside the ring in any way, you will be immediately disqualified! Second-”
“Do both feet need to touch the ground for it to count?” Double-Double asked.
“...Yes. Anyway-”
“Are you able to fly over it?” Toil questioned.
“...What? No! No flying over the ring!”
“But can you even prove she left the ring when she’s so high above the sky?” Trouble countered.
Elizabeth felt a painful feeling in her stomach. Either she really didn’t know what she was getting herself into, or the lack of real preparation or consideration of these factors was starting to eat away at her.
“I... that... you know what, no! No flying allowed! I shall make that a hard rule starting now!” she eventually decreed.
Kamika glared at her minions.
“Nice going, idiots,” she muttered as she planted her feet onto the ground. The three gargoyles could only shrug their shoulders.
“Moving on!” Elizabeth said with haste. “Second, a fighter may announce their departure from the kumite and relinquish their victory to their adversary at any time during the fight!”
“Okay seriously, does this chick speak English at all?” Trouble asked with annoyance.
“She’s saying we can give up at any time,” Double-Double mentioned.
“...Well now that makes even less sense. Why would we wanna give up?” Trouble asked. Double-Double sometimes had to wonder if the company he kept really was this inept, but he chose to keep such thoughts to himself for now.
“Third,” Elizabeth continued with her final ultimatum, “victory can be obtained... by slaying one’s opponent.”
Toil and Trouble gulped in unison, but Kamika held fast to her foolhardy bravado.
“Oh puh-leeze. As if I have to worry about a puny little human like you ever defeating me!” she taunted, which quickly got Elizabeth’s goat.
“It would seem you are either ignorant of the powers I hold within, or you are too foolish to know overwhelming odds when you see them!” shouted Elizabeth. “I have garnered experience from fighting countless demonkind like yourself, and I have amassed a number of techniques to deal with any sort of occasion!”
Kamika, getting really bored with Elizabeth bragging about things she was most likely making up, placed her hands on her hips.
“Are you gonna show me any of these ‘techniques,’ or are you just gonna keep wasting my time?” she asked impatiently.
Elizabeth shrank back. This, too, was another matter she had failed to prepare for, but she couldn’t make herself look bad in front of her sworn enemy now. She puffed up her chest and put on a wild grin.
“Ask, and ye shall receive, but know that it will be the last thing you ever see!” Elizabeth reached into her uniform pocket and pulled out her weapon of choice for the brawl. “Behold!!”
What was presented to Kamika was... a pair of black nun-chucks. Kamika had to stifle her laughter as best she could.
“Really? This is what will spell my doom?” she asked as she picked up the nun-chucks by the chain and gave it a contemptuous smile, before diving straight into mock terror. “Oh nooo, a couple of black sticks! How scaaaary~!”
Elizabeth swiped the nun-chucks away.
“You will not be laughing once I show you my power with the nunchaku from Hell!” she barked. “Now watch and learn!”
In order to properly use nun-chucks, one must have the spatial awareness, dexterity, and fast reflexes to avoid repeatedly inflicting self-harm during combat. It was too early to say how skilled Elizabeth was at that, but she swung the nun-chucks above her head with confidence, staring into Kamika’s soul with a piercing gaze.
This lasted for a solid half a minute, until Elizabeth did something unexpected. With a sudden flash of her free hand, she reached up, grabbed the part of the nun-chuck that was spinning, let go of the piece she was holding, and then began to swing that above her head, all while keeping her iron leer on Kamika. A move like that could not have been easy to master, that much was certain.
“Wow, she’s good,” Trouble commented, the other gargoyles nodding in agreement.
Kamika, however, was less than enthused by these basic maneuvers.
“Bo-ring!” she exclaimed with a roll of her eyes. “Let’s see something real fancy, shall we?”
Elizabeth finally cracked a smile. “I thought you might request that of me,” she said confidently. “But now your impatience shall be your downfall!” She increased the tempo of her nunchuck-swapping maneuvers, going from one hand to the next, with her weapon still spinning and spinning, until it spun right into Elizabeth’s face.
“OW!!!”
With a dull THWACK, part of Elizabeth’s nun-chucks smacked her right on the nose. Dropping the nun-chucks, she immediately covered her nose, her hands muffling the howl of agony that escaped her lips. It looked as though she was in serious pain, and anyone who saw it happen would normally rush over to see if she was okay... but Kamika was doing something else.
Pfffthehehahahaha!! Oh my god, are you serious?! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!” Kamika clutched her stomach, laughing her tail off from watching Elizabeth fumble to such a degree. The minions didn’t laugh nearly as much as their Mistress did; in fact, they could only wince as they saw Elizabeth double over in discomfort.
“Aaaagh, dammit!! I thought I practiced that!” Elizabeth yowled, her hands clinging onto her nose. Thank the gods there wasn’t any blood, but the stinging soreness was unbearable at present.
Eventually, Kamika had her fill of laughter, and turned to Elizabeth with a confident grin.
“Well now, have we had enough?” she ragged, feeling as though her triumph was already happening. “You can always throw in the towel, you know~”
“Sh-shut up! I shall not yield that easily!” Elizabeth barked, pointing at Kamika. “Besides, you have yet to lift a finger yourself! That can easily be interpreted as forfeiting the match!”
“Oh, is that how you’re gonna be?” Kamika’s good mood was soured near instantaneously, but it didn’t take her long to shrug her shoulders. “Well, alright then. Maybe it’s time I show you one of my... special techniques~”
Double-Double’s eyes widened, knowing all too well what Kamika meant to do.
“My Mistress, please, you must reconsider-”
“Zip it!!” Kamika ordered. “This is our fight, and we’ll decide how it plays out!”
“A-a ‘special technique,’ huh?” Elizabeth asked. She was starting to get her bearings together, even when the pain was still present, and after a few moments, she put her hands on her hips and stared down Kamika once more. “Very well then, show me this technique that you’re so proud of!”
“Oh I would love to,” Kamika said playfully, “but maaaybe you should come a little closer so you can get a good look at it.”
“You want me to advance? What do you think you’re t-trying to p-pull...”
In an instant, Elizabeth almost lost her balance. The funny thing was that it wasn’t her self-imposed injury that was the culprit; something was happening to the air around her. It was starting to make her feel dizzy, but it also smelled... really nice.
“Don’t you wanna see what I’m capable of, my dear? If you do, you need to come closer~” Kamika insisted, beckoning her opponent to her.
The world grew hazy and pink around Elizabeth. Some part of her knew things weren’t right, but more and more, her body was giving in to this wondrous new sensation. Her shoulders slumped, her skin tingled all over, and her legs began moving with a mind of their own. Like a zombie, she heeded Kamika’s beck and call, and once she got close enough, the succubus cradled her head in her hands, giving her a sweet and adoring look.
“There. See how much better this is~?” Kamika cooed as she softly rubbed Elizabeth’s cheeks. “I know you don’t want to fight me. In fact, I bet your desires are of a more... sensual nature~”
Her tail brushed against Elizabeth’s leg, sending a shiver down her spine. Kamika licked her lips, and whispered into Elizabeth’s ear.
“Tell me, what do you want more than anything in the world~?” she asked.
“I... I want...” Elizabeth mumbled, her head stuffed full of pleasant thoughts by the pink fog surrounding them. Kamika looked on expectantly; soon enough, she would utter the words she wanted to hear, and victory would be her’s at last.
It was then that Elizabeth grabbed Kamika’s arm forcefully, as if life had suddenly returned to her. Kamika’s face turned to pure horror, while Elizabeth’s was one of overwhelming adrenaline.
“I wish nothing more than to rule over all!”
With her battle cry, Elizabeth used her full might to fling Kamika over her head and send her flying over to the trees. Kamika probably should have been used to something like this happening, but that didn’t stop her from screaming bloody murder all the way to the forest.
“Mistress!!” Toil and Trouble shrieked.
“After her, you fools!” Double-Double demanded, immediately bounding for the forest with the other two gargoyles in tow. Elizabeth stood in place with a prideful smile, assured that her conquest had finally begun...
