For the first part of future news: Due to the holidays (and cold & flu season) historically making updates unreliable, the plan for the time ahead is to keep doing incrementals on Fridays whenever there's enough content, and to do the next public release at the end of January or beginning of February. We'll see what February looks like when it arrives, as it's usually the month I take (scheduled instead of unscheduled) time off.
For the second part of future news: Nobody panic but I am starting to just think about the future a little. During my recent trip to visit friends I was talking about some of the difficulties I've been having, and both of them pointed out that the time I've spent on the Devious games is kind of nuts for a single project. I pointed out in return that I do diversify, but there is some truth to the fact that as much as I love this project, I have been working on it for just over ten years now.ย
It was around 2014 when I began posting public builds, and in 2016 I first actually opened Patreon as a tip jar. Since then it's basically become my job and what I've worked on pretty much five days a week (circumstances allowing), using the same program, looking at the same text, and I think it may be beginning to wear on me a little. I'm not sure if it's just a bit of the usual creator burnout or what.
The time may come soon where I need to give the Devious games a break and work on something else for a while, if nothing else to restore my creative juices. Or possibly just to take a break from Twine 1. Again, don't panic... that's just something I'm turning over in my head right now, and even if I did move to working on something else for a while, I doubt I could ever give up the Devious stuff completely. It's got too much of my joy in it. Either way, I'll keep everyone up to date on things.
Anyway, enough yapping. Happy holidays, and see you next update!
