Don't Look in His Eyes - Flash Fiction

“Base to O’Shea. How’s it lookin’ out there?” The radio on her belt crackled, prompting her to pause and pull the thing off her belt.

“Quiet, Johnson. You actually gonna do any of your patrols or your ass gonna be in that chair when I get back?” She teased gruffly, amused by her own words.

“Fuck off.”

O’Shea chuckled to herself as she put the radio back in its holster and clicked her flashlight back on as she resumed her patrol. She worked the third shift security for a privately owned lot of warehouses meant for shipping storage. It was a boring job but quiet and she preferred the quiet. When she returned home after three tours overseas, adjusting to civilian life had been the hardest thing she had to do and, given her experiences, it was difficult to sleep at night so she preferred to work these late night gigs.

As she rounded a corner to go between two dark warehouses, her boot sends something metal and clattering ahead of her across the asphalt. Reflexes trained for combat, O’Shea’s flashlight immediately clicked on and focused on the object that had startled her. It was just an empty beer can, likely from one of the homeless that squat in the area. The tension drained from her shoulders as it sank in that she was safe, that this was not a warzone.

“Get a grip girl.” She mutters to herself as she swings the beam of light side to side to check the entrances.

The door to her left was slightly ajar, the door handle askew and the jam bent slightly, as if something had impacted it pretty hard. She reached for her radio to get ahold of Johnson again.

“O’Shea to base. Looks like we’ve got a visitor in warehouse seven-b. Copy?” She reported, but only quiet static met her as no one responded on the other end.

“Johnson, do you read?” Again, no response. “That motherfucker…” O’Shea growled as she put the radio away and slowly pushed the door open so it wouldn’t make much noise

The warehouse was dark and quiet but as soon as she crossed the threshold, a heavy smell struck her and made her nose feel like it was on fire upon her first breath. She paused, almost staggering, to cover her mouth with the collar of her shirt. Despite the unpleasant smell, which reminded her of rotted flesh that had been in humid heat for a week, she continued her sweep of the warehouse. The air felt like it was getting thicker as she moved further into the warehouse, the halo of her flashlight aimed towards the ground. The dust and dirt had been disturbed recently; marked with fresh footprints but O’Shea noted there were at least four distinct shoe impressions and it looked as if they had been running… or three of them had been chasing a fourth. She knew, by protocol, that she should leave and call back to base or even call the police but someone might be in danger or worse.

She had to be sure.

The smell was getting heavier and heavier and she couldn’t stop herself from gagging and coughing as her body tried to reject the poisoned air. As she rounded a large stack of boxes, her light shone on a pair of shoes, heels facing her.

“Hey! Identify yourself!” She shouted, lifting the light so she illuminated the figure, but they did not obey her command. “You listening?!”

As O’Shea drew closer, she came to realize that the figure was frozen in place like a mannequin. It was a young man, left arm cocked back with a piece of rebar in his grasp, as if he had been mid-swing. Something about him was uncanny and she touched his arm, gasping in horror as she realize she was touching human skin. This man was in full rigor, standing up but there was no pulse to him, only a lingering warmth. O’Shea swallowed thickly and swung her flashlight around the open area, finding two more. All three victims looked as if they were barely out of their teens, frozen in a single moment forever.

“What the…? “ O’Shea mumbled under her breath as she walked around them with morbid fascination, still trying not to choke on the miasma permeating the warehouse. “It couldn’t be…”

The crunch of glass under her boot startled her and she stepped back and swung the flashlight’s beam down to find a pair of broken sunglasses that she had broken even further. The lenses were shattered and the frame twisted but as she bent to pick it up, something etched on the right side of the frames made her jaw drop. O’Shea turned back around, finally notice the small trail of blood drops leading away from the three assailants and she followed, the smell so strong here that it took all of her effort not to pass as she breathed shallowly. The sounds of soft whimpering and muttering reached her and she carefully peered around a stack of wooden boxes to see a figured huddled on the floor; clothes dirty, torn, and flecked with blood. Taking a deep breath, O’Shea pressed her back against the boxes behind her and closed her eyes before rounding the corner.

“Aurelius?” She called, the whimpering stopping in response, surprised she had called out their name.

“Sergeant?”

Dragons Like Jelly Tarts too

Did a bit of a test stream and just doodled today, getting myself back into the habit and rolling out content instead of spending weeks debating it. Doing it all for me again will take some work but I am determined to make this work.

The Dragon - Flash Fiction

“Jason! Come on, where are you?” Hector hissed, trying to keep his voice down while also calling out from his partner. The floorboards creaked and groaned under each of his heavy steps. The mansion was dark and old, but well-kept by whomever occupied it. Jason had been confident that this job would be easy; robbing an old rich man who had more wealth then he’d ever use.

Things were going well until Hector had lost track of Jason.

He heard something up on the second floor, hoping it was Jason. The carpeting on the stairs muffled the footfalls of his boots. Upon arrival, Hector found himself looking down an ominous dark hallway, one of the doors on the far right slightly ajar. Swallowing nervously, he cautiously crept down to the door and listened, hearing clumsy movement inside. The rusted hinges squeezed as Hector nudged the door open wider, alerting whoever was inside the room. To his relief, it was Jason.

“Jesus man! You scared me!” Jason snapped at him angrily, fumbling with the object he had in his hands; a large porcelain vase. “Dude, this geezer is loaded! Best score yet!”

“Keep your voice down!” Hector retorted in a hasty whisper, glancing back at the door he had just come through. “C’mon, we’re supposed to be grabbing cash and jewels, not… pottery.”

Jason put the vase back where he found it and they both left the room, as it was only filled with valuable and old pottery and statues, stuff they couldn’t carry easily back to the van waiting outside. There was no system to their search but their quest finally led them to the master bedroom.

“Ain’t no one here.” Jason whispered after peeking inside.

“You sure?” Hector replied nervously.

“Ya man.”

Together, they slipped inside the master bedroom and found exactly what they were looking for. Jason let out an excited low whistle as he grabbed fistfulls of jewelry from a display box, the lid not even locked.

“It’s not even locked or alarmed dude! Told you this was an easy score!” Jason said excitedly, his voice no longer at a whisper.

“Keep it down you idiot!” Hector chastised him with a sharp hiss between his teeth. “Just grab what you can and lets get out of here.”

Stuffing their pockets and bag with whatever jewelry and cash they found lying around in the room, Hector and Jason slipped back out and headed for the stairs. Their exit was was the way they had come in; a window they had forced open in the kitchen. However, they saw a light in the kitchen, a shadow crossing over the threshold belonging to a young woman draped in a silken dress.

There was a brief moment of silence as they stared at each other and then she screamed in alarm, dropping the bottle of wine and pair of glasses she had in hand. A beastial roar shook the house and in terror, the pair of home invaders fled, shoving the woman aside and breaking the window they had slipped through in their haste. The engine of their escape car roared and the wheels spun in the dirt before finding traction and taking off down the pitch-black road. Hector had his foot on the gas, face as pale as a sheet while Jason was clinging tightly his chair, sweating.

“That was clos--” Jason started to laugh and then the world suddenly spun as the van was suddenly launched off the road by a massive impact to the driver side. Consciousness returned to Hector slowly, the world upside down and heat licking at his cheeks from the flames surrounding him. Fear and adrenaline kicked in at the same time and the moment he moved, sharp pain laced up his right leg. Hector realized he was trapped in the car and that it had flipped and crumpled, a massive piece of metal pierced straight through his femur. Jason was gone from the driver seat and the flames were growing. He shouted desperately for salvation, forgetting they were out in the middle of nowhere, dozens of miles from the nearest town, from help.

Suddenly, the wreckage was ripped apart and Hector was dragged out onto the dirt, blood gushing from around the shrapnel lodged in his leg. Panting in agony, he looks up to thank his captor, only to be met with the sight of a naked man. His hair and beard were trimmed neatly and peppered with grey and white hairs yet he had the body of an athletic twenty year-old. “T-thank you sir!” Hector choked, the pain agonizing as he tried not to move, choking on the thick smoke billowing from the wrecked vehicle.

A nictitating eyelid flashed over the man’s smoldering eyes and all Hector saw in the next moments was flames

So I've given it some thought and I realize I should really just be putting stuff out there. The flash fictions and Steel Against Scales will be fully public releases and there are just some smaller benefit to being a supporter for the moment. I'll increase the perks as things roll forward.

Weekly Flash Fictions - Super short stories (no more than 2,000 words). These will be available on pretty much every platform I can think of.

Steel Against Scales - Erotica comic. Currently reworking, so keep an eye out for WIP posts. Those will be supporter exclusive by the comic will be public. Supports will have access to a higher rez version of the comic.

My focus, for the time being, is just getting stuff done, putting stuff out there, and having fun again.

I know I've been gone for awhile. Last week, my computer died and I just recently got back my new, upgraded rig. I also have been really struggling with my depression and anxiety and just not been making myself do work but now that I have a reliable station back and with certain personal things becoming more important, I realize I really need to get back on this.

So a few projects I am currently working on, much smaller scale then most of the things I have attempted thus far.

Flash Fictions [Supporter Exclusive] - Weekly, I'll be putting out a new flash fiction (short story, no more than 2000 words) for you guys to read. The first one is available in the rewards folder already but I'll also be posting them here and Patreon.

Erotica Comic: Steel Against Scales [Supporter Exclusive] - I've gone back to the drawing board with this project, including an entire rewrite of the script. There will be more steady progress updates

Streaming - I'll be back to doing art streams, about once a week. I will make an announcement a few hours before it starts, as my schedule is very erratic so I, currently, can't have a set day. Am working on it though.

Subscriber Rewards [Supporter Exclusive] - Reward badges are finally coming, as my supports deserve some actual content that I haven't been making

Not Doing So Good

I apologize for my long absence and lack of content the past few months. I haven't been doing so well physically and mentally. My doctor has modified my anti-anxiety medication and adjusting to that but I'm still having difficulties functioning most days when I'm not at work (i have a different mentality when I go to my day job). I also don't have much energy because of said job as we've gotten busier so I'm working a lot more.

I plan to have something soon, as I have been shuffling ideas around that are easier and faster to put out without bogging myself down with massive projects.

I still haven't been doing great but am trying to stay in practice. My figure work leaves a lot to be desired so working on fixing that. You'll see more of these posts pop up every few days... I am trying to do these daily.

I am trying to organize myself to push content out again. Anxiety is just... eating at my will right now.

The vacation was a much needed break and I'm also back on my anti-depressant/anxiety meds finally so... things are looking a bit more hopeful. I worked out some new short-term and long term plans because I haven't really produced content with any kind of consistency and I need to try harder to change that.

The supporter badges for Patreon & SubscribeStar will be drafted and available over the next week, as it's a promised reward for you guys that I've been slacking on. I'll also have badges for my social media accounts as well once they are released.

The first batch of my Quetzal adoptables will be available starting March 9th. I'm finishing the template tomorrow.

YCH (Your Character Here) Templates for tabletop games like D&D, Pathfinder, and Starfinder. They'll be based on various classes.

I've also gone back to working on my fan-fiction stuff to get through my writers block. I have been in the process of refining my Mass Effect retelling, which subscribers will find in the reward repository. You guys will also start seeing drafts and WIP for the first 5 pages and new cover for the Steel Against Scales reboot.

As of today, I am on vacation. I did finish the subscriber exclusive and it is available to the appropriate tiers on Patreon & SubscribeStar (if you wanna see the full thing, consider supporting me on of these platforms. I still have living expenses to cover)

Once vacation is over, there will be some content coming out to look forward to.

  • Quetzal Dragon Adoptables will be finished and the first batch available for purchase by end of March.
  • Steel Against Scales will be starting it's new iteration. Subscribers will see pages as soon as early April while public pages won't start popping up until around Summer.
  • YCH (your character here) Template offers for D&D and other tabletop characters. These will be my new commission offerings to add to my current services.
  • Supporter Badges will be done and available across multiple platforms starting in April
  • New branding and videos for Patreon, SubscribeStar, and all my other accounts, including Facebook
  • Streaming should be back by May.

My depression/anxiety is back, even worse, as I’ve been off my medication for about two weeks now. I likely won’t see a doctor for another month so… things are tough to be honest.

I am attempting to get started on my comic project as well as my first Patreon/Subscribstar exclusive for the year. I’ll keep you guys posted and be back to streaming starting Monday.

VG Theatre - New content idea

This idea is inspired by a friend of mine's attempts at recording his playthrough of The Last of Us and converting into a long-form movie for his family to enjoy the game without having to play it. It was quite well done but it recently came back to mind and I want to attempt going a step further and cutting the footage within the parameters of an actual feature-length film (no longer than 3 hours) while still presenting the game the way it was developed to the audience.

The first 'movie' is going to be The Order: 1886... a rather under-appreciated Santa Monica Studios game I really enjoyed and hope they do more with. Keep an eye out for progress shots if you're one of my subscribers.

Table-top Homebrew Content

A relatively new thing I'll be offering for my subscribers, in collaboration with my friend Jay Borman. I started working on homebrews for D&D 5e and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar table top and... eventually I expand my ideas.

Currently, these two projects are just side things I do when having artist block but I'll be adding them to my list of Patron & Subscribe Star exclusive content.

SPARKED - A D&D 5e & Magic the Gathering conversion. Will be drafted in various supplements for each known plane in the MtG story-verse and I'll keep updating it. It will vary quite a bit from the current Ravnica supplement and previous Planechase supplements.

SEASON OF WAR: SOULSTORM - A Warhammer: Age of Sigmar campaign homebrew, improving upon the Path to Glory & Skirmish rulesets (cause they honestly suck). It's designed to be a ladder campaign and have a variety of flexible options for Game Masters to bend to their own ideas.
