I want write horror stories again. I don’t write in that genre nearly as many as I want to. It was actually my first interest when I first got into writing. Just somewhere along the way, I strayed.
The thing is, these won’t just be the typical violent, gory, monsters-under-the-bed kind of horror. Never understood why, but I like the more subtle ones that focus more on the atmosphere and lets your imagination toy with you. The one where the characters are in a constant state of questioning their reality with terrifying consequences. It’s the best kind of horror in pretty much any medium.
So far, the closest story that comes to that is Mastering the Craft which was a short prompt story.
Playing with tension is extremely difficult. It can’t be rushed or forced and it can’t be held for too long, but the challenge is worth it.
Some in the coming months, expect some more creepy stuff to come your way as I experiment with finding the right style.
